I had a blood clot in my subclavian vein when I was like 23. Scared of it happening again ever since. Anytime I see that discoloration, that tingling, and tightness, I freak out Thankfully, it's service connected so I can go to the ER at a VA hospital and get it checked out. One sonographer saw how scared I was one time in particular. She had a thick Slavic accent and said something along the lines of *you're going to be okay. If it wasn't okay, I wouldn't be the only one in this room" It wasn't a diagnosis, didn't say if it was a DVT, or a prognosis. But that helped. Like I realized "She has a point. If it was something life threatening, there probably be a bit more hustle" And if it is a DVT, I'm in the right place to have it taken care of, and if it's nothing, then I'll just be bumped lower on the triage. I don't know how ethical that is but it really helped me out that night.

Yup. My main answer is, “well the doctor who reads this exam will give the verdict in their report on how everything looks.” The most common answer i get is, “oh, i know. You just can’t tell me.” 😂 and then i say, “well it won’t matter anyways what i think or say because i’m not a doctor.”

My sister had an ultrasound for her kidneys. I’m an sonographer myself so I saw the tech measuring a small kidney stone. I told my sister I saw a very tiny kidney stone and it’ll go away with drinking water. My sister is so freaked out by the small kidney stone even though it’s not a huge deal. 😭😭😭😭😭 She gets her results back from the doc and they told her everything on the ultrasound looked fine and they saw nothing wrong. The Sonographers will always pay attention to the smallest details.

As an ultrasound tech, i can say I don’t get paid enough to do what a doctor does. And i’m glad we don’t diagnose. Our job is to do the exam with the machine, is why we are called techs. We are not doctors, so it’s not our job to diagnose patients. Especially when you have to factor in many other things like other testing and full on medical history to make a valid and sensible diagnosis. If we did the job of a tech and an actual doctor, we wouldn’t need doctors.
