This is for boxing gloves. You can break your hand if something intercepts it before its closed

I was taught a very similar method for throwing powerful strikes by a friend who was taking a form of karate when we were young. I practiced it until I had the timing of clinching your fist to turn it into a sold object. I think the analogy my friend's instructor used was to make your fist fly like a bird then fall like a stone. We are all very lucky to have Valentyn's expert instruction and advice. The stuff he shows in these videos is typically only found in the best gyms in the world or direct from a true master to his students.

Who knows why clinch your fist only before impact? Does it effect the speed or accuracy?

Think of it like cracking a whip. The hips, torso,shoulders arm and lastly the fist are loose until the point of impact. Clenching the fist prior to inpact would cause the tension in the body's whip effect. Tension robs speed, speed x mass equals power.
