I'm a cook in the Coast Guard and I can't tell you how many times I've used chef John's recipes. Converted to giant portions, of course. I'll be throwing this in the big tilt skillet for the guys on Monday. Thanks dude.

awesome that you have the autonomy to determine the menu. I wonder if acquiring ingredients at volume is a challenge.

That's one of the benefits of being on a smaller ship like I was in the Navy. I was on an LST and a frigate where cooks have way more leeway on how they prepare dishes which usually ends up to everyone's benefit
BTW, anyone buying and making Hamburger Helper for their families should be arrested. I mean that literally. It's so dumb.

Every time I watch a Food Wishes video, my pitbull Kali starts wagging her tail. She loves your voice, Chef John!! And yes, you really are that special, because I watch a lot of other youtube chefs (no disrespect to them) and Kali doesn't wag her tail when I play their videos. You're kind of a part of my family now!!

I'm Italian, born and raised in a small village of Apulia and orecchiette are a typical pasta of my region. They even taught us how to prepare them in elementary school once. Anyway, the tradition wants orecchiette cooked with turnip green and a sauce made of anchovies and oil. We call it 'Orecchiette con le cime di rapa'. The pronunciation is 'orekˈkjette'! Thanks for the video chef, I'm glad that people around the world knows what orecchiette are :)

@MsChumptyDumpty

Marion Deleon Just smash anchovies and oil together. You should end up with the texture of a paste but we use it as a condiment that's why I called it sauce. We add it at the very end and let the pasta set for a minute. Eat it hot! Some people even sprinkle toasted bread crumbs (finely grated) on it and it's really delicious :)

Camilla Gorgoni : loved to. Does Apulia have a translatable meaning? Chef John, that's not what's happening. I just added something with the ingredients and the recipe just came together.
I make this recipe pretty much every single month, and have been doing so ever since I first saw this video in 2014. This is our favorite recipe EVER that chef John has posted, it is the tastiest, cheapest, and easiest thing you could possibly make. Thanks Chef!!
Everytime i wach Chef John's Videos im wating for my favorite phrase "Just give it the Oooooold Chopa Chopa" You brightened up my day :)
This dish became one of my all-time favorites in the 'quick-and-easy' department. Usually I use spinach instead of Arugula, 1 hot and 1 mild sausage, sometimes I add mushrooms, sometimes celery cubes and/or red pepper cubes. It is always a success in my house. Thanks for this recipe.

I was just wondering if this would work with spinach, then I see your comment. Thanks!
that is the fanciest hamburger helper episode ever. I love it. Since this channel, I have a ten pound bag of everything, and make anything right out of nothing.
Just made this. GREAT recipe. The wife and I loved it. It also allows some creativity. I added fennel and red pepper. Also, I doubled the recipe (we like leftovers). Thanks you!
My boyfriend put the pan on high heat to black the onion, I kid you not, to BLACK the onion then prepare the sausages. I said, but then onions are all black, he said, well, I follow the exact instruction chef John gave, as first onion then sausages. If you don't believe me, check the video! So here I am, checking the video.

I was thinking of trying this with spicy Italian chicken sausage from Trader Joe's and spinach, but was wondering if anyone else tried using spinach instead. Thanks for sharing!
Omg you're awesome!! The Courtney Love of greens! Lmbo
Omg the way your cleaver was set on your cutting board gave me the heebie geebies! That was like one of the first ways I cut myself in culinary foundations.
Finally made this last night! Came out fantastic, the sauce is so tasty!
made this twice already! once using only chicken stock, and the second with a healthy splash of prosecco in addition to the stock! it's SO delicious! definitely my go to for an easy dinner. i'm a huge fan of your recipe videos!
Made this for dinner last night. It was very simple with minimal cleanup and, most importantly, it tasted great! I can envision many versions of this, so it could be *new* for a long time. Thanks Chef John, the principles you teach make me a better cook!
I made this tonight and it really was amazing and so easy. I used romaine lettuce from my garden and added some sriracha and tomato paste about halfway through the pasta cook part.
No cayenne? Chef John, are you... Are you feeling ok?

"You tricked me into making a warm salad!" I LOLed at that - hee hee
"You are the Mork of your fork!" ... Nice one Chef; I was sad all week and you've made me smile. Thanks! This looks absolutely delicious; I'm tempted to try it with ground chicken or turkey.
This is the best version of this recipe on KZread, hands down. I want to try it with broccoli rabe. Thanks Chef John.
Great recipe, and made a creamy sauce. I love this method, I used water instead of broth anda little salt at the end. Delicious ! Thank you, Chef John.
I literally just made this, but I added garlic and used spinach instead of arugula cause it’s what I had. It was absolutely delicious! Me and my daughter loved it. And this is coming from a person who HATES Italian sausage. But I wanted to introduce my daughter to new foods. And it worked so well. Thank you so much chef John!
Chef John I applaud your willingness to read KZread comments. Keep up the good work. Your asides speak so often to what many people either forgot to ask or might be thinking--like the bits about a "strong cup" or you add less water as the pasta cooks. That is a strength and makes the videos all-the-more worth watching.
This one is quickly becoming a go-to favorite for me. I've made it enough times that I've begun experimenting. Once replacing the arugula with spinach (okay, that one wasn't an experiment, they were out of arugula) and once with beef stock (not bad)
Omg chef john, my boyfriend and I just made this recipe for dinner tonight and it was delicious!!!! We currently live in a small apartment in Korea with only one burner so the one pot pasta idea made life so much easier. Thank you for sharing this epic recipe, and keep doing what you're doing!! I adore you and your videos :)
I think I was drooling as I watched this video. Chef John is just incredible. I go to his site every morning when planning my dinner.
Just love chef John. Seriously, the only reference i need when seeking cooking info.
I didn't know that arugula can be sauteed like spinach! I am harvesting my arugula tom morning and will be making this!
Great and easy. One of my go tos. Made this before but didn't know one pot way. This is way better. Love it with broccoli rabe and white beans. Thanks Chef John, you da man!
I made this for dinner last night - absolutely delicious! Thank you Chef John.
Had this for dinner tonight and topped it off with some chopped basil and diced tomatoes from our garden . . . fantastic! In defense of Hamburger Helper, it was one of the first things I learned to prepare on my own. Eventually, because of that particular product, I realized that a big part of cooking was just reading and following directions. Sure, there is more to it than that, but all that stuff comes with experience -- which you can't get if you don't start. Even though I haven't had Hamburger Helper since those days, I remember it with gratitude because of its part in my all-to-slow realization that if you can read, you can cook.
this recipe is so simple/delicious! definitely very easy to make variations on it by subbing in different meats, veggies or pastas. thanks Chef John!
Thank you for the recipe. My fiancé always cooks, but due to a cold that had her bedridden, I was forced to cook. Your review was so simple, and with a few minor adjustments for the ingredients on hand, I wowed my fiancé last night with my new one pot pasta skills!

You guys get married? Hope you’re a top notch cook by now!
Used whatever sausage I had on hand: half longanisa and half hot link. SO GOOD!
Just made this for my roomie after an insane gym session. Very well received! Amazing flavours. I added a touch of cream to this and just a tiny sprinkle of chiffonade basil on top too I think that worked great.
Just made this Chef John, awesome as usual. A couple mods, couldn't find Arugula so I went with spinach and I Hacked your Orzo recipe and added a dollop of Ricotta at the end which was a nice compliment to the spicy sausage. Yum. You are the food medic of this pandemic.
My parents were both kids when they survived the first depression so I grew up with 'one pot meals' but never this one. I love 'em and I can't wait to try it!! Beef sausage of course, Oy Vey!
Love this idea I adapted it to cook my pasta and sauce together when I don't feel like cleaning two pans.
Just tried this, it's a lovely dish. Fairly cheap, relatively quick to make and really delicious.
I love watching you stir.
Funny you said listening, I do listen to a lot of your recipes, then I usually go back snd watch it again. This ‘sounds’ delicious 🤤. I’ll try it with spinach and penne. Thanks chef John!
I just made this -it was absolutely amazing!! so insanely simple and it had so much flavor. I did sprinkle in a bit of nutmeg, cinnamon, and thyme. I also used spinach and added some blanch broccoli. Chef John, good advice about not adding any salt -this does come out a bit salty if you're very sensitive -however, to me it was perfect. But I definitively didn't need to add any salt.
I came here for "the ripping and the tearing, the ripping and the tearing", but ended up staying here for "the cooking and the stirring, the cooking and the stirring"... I kid. Well done sir. Found what I'm making this week. Thanks for the inspiration and all the great recipes.
Made this twice already for my fiance and he loved it! The first time I made it with broccoli instead of arugula because I had none (would have made it with spinach anyways), used a diff kind of pasta and added some garlic and he said it was delicious. I made it again last night and added mushrooms, some green onions and parsley and came out just as good. It was a bit watery the first time I made it but I just cranked up the heat and it was fine. Seriously Chef John your recipes are DYNOMITE!
I was just thinking over what I should cook on monday. I do a recipe from Chef John tomorrow on sunday already; and now I got one for monday also. Thanks from Germany!
Great recipe, chef, I just came across it recently. I do like a little extra spice so I added some chili flake and mustard powder when I added the pasta and broth, and I also amped up the veg quotient with a bag of frozen peas, some garlic, and a second type of greens. This dish is so easy to modify, thanks for sharing the technique!
I've made this a few times now and it's delicious. All I do differently is add garlic and red pepper flakes.
Made this yesterday and it turned out amazing!!!! Craving it again today!
The Courtney Love of greens made my night!
courtney love of greens is just too good and this looks swoon heavenly yum.
Thanks for this awesome recipe tutorial, Chef John! I made it today and my pasta came out tasty and delicious. My whole family gave it two thumbs up!
You're a beast. Just been looking this up the past few days and tried finding alternatives to broccoli rabe. Thanks again for all that you do to help boost my SMV.
Thank you, this was eye-opening. In the past week since I've seen your video I've done variations of this recipe with arugula, field salad and Swiss chard.
I love this, I make it nearly every day for lunch!
I just made this and wow. It is so cheap and easy, and anyone would love this - especially kids. Any kid would love this. I didn't have any greens or arugula, but it was still great!
Made this twice with broccoli. Almost a crime that something so simple is so damn good.
I made this today, i used spinach and it was fine! The ingredients was simple and it tasted great! Thanks for the recipe!
Love this recipe and I have made similar versions but never used the method of one pan which I loved. Thanks Chef John ☺☺☺☺
I have never made a dish that looks like this but ,boy boy 👦 u have me convinced to give it a try .I have watched A lot of chefs make this . Thank you for 😊the video.
"The Courtney Love of greens" . . . ba doom bing chang! Gotta love it.
It looks wonderful! Another for my "must do" list.
This came out wonderfully! It took all of 30 minutes (I cooked for a larger group.) Anything that can be done in one pot suits me just fine! Well done, chef!
I've made so many variations of this. It's so good in a pinch, and rarely over 10$. Chef John Clan ain't nuthin to fuck with.
I used campanelle, very good and delicious. Always a straightforward and proper way of cooking. Shorts off to you, Chef.
Oh my! That looks delicious. I must give it a try.
love how "riffable" (as my Jazz friends would say) this recipe is, had the sausage, stock and Orecchiette but subbed for the onion and greens, I had some tired green onions and a shallot so I used them and did pesto instead of greens, still tastes great! Thanks Chef John!
Chef I love your subtle humor and outlook on life! Thanks for the great video. Long health and life.
Gonna be trying this technique, another idea to add to my repertoire. Thank you chef John.
So I'm a little slow trying this for the first time but Man Oh Man is this good. I made it with kale and it was fantastic. The flavor is very different but delicious. Looked just like Chef John's. Gravy-ish and all. Your the best Chef.
Thank you thank you thank you!!!! I love this recipe!!! If I ever opened a restaurant I would serve it! From Dave in Sydney Australia
I made this tonight and it was fantastic! Thank you so much for posting it! :D
I love Italian and Italian-inspired dishes. In the quest for continuous learning, I find it rewarding to know the meaning of the name of a dish. In this particular case, "orecchiette" means "little ears", from "orecchio" (IT).
I am the Mork of my fork. I appreciate the homage.
I made this today, and like all of Chef John simple and inexpensive recipes, it was awesome! It did take a lot more stock than I would have imagined, but no big deal there. The 'gravy' at the end was so deep and rich. The onions completely melted away, not one trace of them once the dish was done. I would say if you wanted to save money and hardly alter the dish at all: skip the hard cheese at the end. It is more for show than taste.
Once again, another simple yet delicious recipe!
I could watch this guy cook all day ❤
Chef John, you're truly the Coco Chanel of your Food Wishes Channel.
this looks so delicious and easy. Can't wait to try it.
I love the slight cooking sounds.
looks amazing and super simple!
I make a version of this with broccoli and it's one of my favorites! I'll have to try cooking the pasta the way you did, it sounds like it would be way more flavorful than cooking it separately.
that julius caesar reference made me love you even more!
"You are the Mork of your fork." Nice little tribute there John!
I literally laughed out loud... Well, I snickered out loud ;-) this looks delicious! Thank you for sharing your skills AND your humor :))
I often make something like this but adding shredded red bell pepper toward the end as well. Looks awesome!

Yay! A new video~ I've be contemplating on rewatching some videos the other day
I made this. It was delicious. Thanks, Chef John!
Loved the recipe! We used kale instead of arugula and spicy Italian sausage. I believe this gave the dish a very sweet taste. -Maybe too sweet. Other than that we will definitely add this dish into rotation!
just made this tonight. used baby arugula and like 6 cloves of garlic (no onion, since my friend isnt a fan). Easy dinner and very good. Totally a win.
this looks so good omg
Thank you chef, one pan meals make me smile :)
This recipe was a huge hit at home! Thank you.
Wow chef john this is delicious!!!! i make it all the time and it's a hit at my house
Thanks for a great video. Reminds me of a one pot spaghetti dinner my mamma used to make when we were very young.
