ONE OF THE WORLD'S MOST DANGEROUS HIKES | Angels Landing (Zion National Park, Utah)

Фильм және анимация

4K | Make sure to adjust quality to 1080p60 before watching Check out my full journey to the summit of Angels Landing. This trail is consistently ranked one of the most dangerous in the world, and most definitely the US. You must be in decent shape and you probably shouldn't be afraid of heights.. ha. It's a tough one and definitely isn't for the faint of heart, as they say.

I was a GS 4/5 ParkRanger @ Zion National Park the Summer of 1990, and the same time we lost one of our own Rangers to a fall at Angels Landing... It's important to know that this is not for everyone to hike, so know your physical and mental limitations...

Hi Greg! Thank you for the kind words.. so glad you enjoyed the video. And wow! Congrats on finishing this one twice. At 62!? Amazing.. such a feat. I felt similarly, it didn't seem super dangerous to me. I always felt safe throughout. But others seem to be too scared to even try it. I totally understand they might have a fear of heights though, which I don't have at all. Glad you loved the hike as much as I did. Happy adventures moving forward :)

A long time favorite hike of mine - Angels Landing is a highly strenuous hike not recommended for inexperience or height/fear challenged people. The “Walter’s Wiggles” are designed well to support and protect the terrain and the hiker’s safety. There are chains to use while crossing the land bridge out to the platform. Yet people still can put themselves in danger. Hydration and snacks are imperative, even when you are strong, in your planning for a strenuous hike. Love this place, sad so many have died on this amazing area of our National Park system.

FOR ANYONE WANTING TO HIKE THIS, HERE IS THE BEST ADVICE I HAVE EVER RECEIVED FOR DOING THIS TRAIL… Ride a bike into the park early before the shuttles and start hiking up in the dark (sunrise is amazing from the top!). Otherwise, this trail gets PACKED like an amusement park line all the way up as soon as the first shuttles arrive. When I rode a bike in a few weeks ago, I had the whole trail to myself while going up and on the top. It was so beautiful and peaceful. Can’t really avoid the crowds going down though. Once the shuttles arrive, the floodgates are opened. You can rent regular pedal bikes or e-bikes right in Springdale. The regular bike I rented from Zion Cycles was like $80, but was well worth it to have Angel’s Landing all to myself! The ride in is mostly uphill so be prepared for that if you don’t get a pedal assisted bike! It was definitely a good workout just getting to the trailhead. Lol The trail itself isn’t nearly as scary or dangerous as it seems, as long as you don’t do anything stupid, but the crowds and congestion make things a bit more tricky at times. All around amazing experience! Lastly, I would do it asap because I was informed by a ranger that they will be starting a lottery system for this trail soon, since it gets so busy to the point of being dangerous!

Well because it was so crowded on the chain section we were forced to stop a ton so people could pass coming the other direction - that’s how narrow it is. So outside of that we didn’t need to take any breaks of our own. On the way up to where the chains start we probably stopped briefly 2-3 times for water and some deep breaths 😊 if I remember correctly we finished the hike in somewhere between 3-4 hours

I was reading about the number of people who fall over the cliffs while rising up from the sitting position. Even many of those not afraid of height are susceptible to vertigo the second they stand up, and they can simply topple over the edge. The reason for the vertigo is a disconnect between what the eyes see and the brain interprets. If I’m ever near the edge, I’ll be sure to scoot backward on my behind for several feet before standing.

I need to get a longer extender. And honestly I just wore regular ol adidas running shoes haha at the time I was really struggling to find a solid hiking shoe. I would recommend shoes for hiking or ones with a great tread which I didn’t have at all. I since found the Hoka Speedgoat trail running shoes and they are amazing - I wish I had them for this hike.

cant go anywhere these days without a mob of ppl being there. we live 30 min from gatlinburg pigeon forge area , and we dont go anymore because of the bumper to bumper traffic all the way thru. massive amounts of ppl all year long.not worth it to us. but to each his own.

I’m a 16 year old that is overweight💀, & right after she says “I haven’t even gotten to the hard part yet” when she reaches the sand that’s where I made it I didn’t go further up because I’m afraid of heights, I say I took about 10-15 breaks of like 3 minutes because I lost my breath really fast & I would keep going little by little & im sure because I didn’t have the right shoes I was even more exhausted, I’d say for someone more healthy & in shape I bet can do It, & yeah it’s gonna be a pain in the a** but you’ll be proud of ur self at the end

I did that hike once ~10 years ago. The weather can change dramatically at any time. Be prepared. Don't wear sneakers or athletic shoes. Wear boots and gloves. And if you are scared of heights, do NOT take this hike. It is foolish to take the hike just to take a photo to show on social media. The NPS should use permits to control the number of hikers allowed on this trail.

I personally don’t think so but I don’t have any fear of heights at all.. if you do it could be a bit scary. I felt like there was plenty of room to move and feel safe on the trail though even though it’s narrow. Just have to make sure you’re balanced and confident with your footing.. but I wouldn’t be worried about it unless you have an extreme phobia of heights

I have multiple straps for the go pro, one for chest and another for my head! And a wrist one as well. I made sure I felt 100% secure in every section of the hike before using the camera I promise. I wanted it to be showing twists and turns and different angles as much as possible. I do agree about the large amount of people there and making it intimidating. So important to be conscious of ourselves and others in those situations. I’m glad you got to watch and take in the views from a comfortable place 😊 thank you for watching!

Make it a by permit only hike. Make a safety video mandatory at the time of the permit if you must. Put a ranger at the entry to check the permits and require a release if needed. BUT DO NOT CHANGE THE SCENIC VALUE OF THIS BY PUTTING MORE SAFETY MEASURES IN PLACE. If you hike and climb in nature there are risks, but DO NOT start protecting us from ourselves.
