I’ve owned my 2000 for about a year and a half. Gentlemen was hanging on to it and it sat in a garage for over 5 years. Dead battery so I didn’t even know it if ran. 22k (kms). On the ODO. Brought it home and up on paddock stands it went. Replaced the 5 year old fuel with fresh. A new battery and it started right up. From that point I went through all the systems, changing all the fluids, the brake pads, tires as well as spark plugs and filters. All genuine Honda. Felt it deserved it after being poked away for a half decade. The first ride was sublime. A few tasteful mods like bar risers and a high mount exhaust to let it sing and it makes me smile every single time I get on it. The rubber neckers nearly give themselves whiplash when they hear it coming. It’s almost comical. At lower revs it almost has a blown small block v8 sound to it. Lots of compliments and “what is it?”. With some quickly pulling out their phones to google what it is. I’m never getting rid of it. 4500km later and it runs like a Swiss watch. Overwhelming my senses with its sultry sound and surprisingly comfortable ride. It’s an all rounder with the best sound in a motorcycle imho

The VFR800 power feel that you noticed, it's the intake (the air box) which has a variable induction setup, there's a long-track intake that causes the intake to reach resonance at about 7,500rpm, then a flapper opens up and there's a short-track intake that causes the intake to reach resonance again at about 10,500.

I had it, and If I wanted a cheap do it all bike these days, without a doubt I buy another VFR800fi. This is literally one of the most versitile bikes. You want to carve corners, you can, you want to go long distance, you can. In short had great fun with this bike :)

Nice! The issue at the stop light with the bike jumping was simply someone forgot to reinsert a spring while upgrading the clutch. Its a great bike, maybe Marco will give me a few more hours on it this spring

The clutch issue that the VFR was having is a kinda common thing with these bikes. There are two main causes of this problem: 1. is that the hydraulic clutch master cylinder (on the handlebar) is sticky or the clutch slave cylinder (on the side of the engine) is sticky. These items should be cleaned and rebuilt with new seals every few years, but nobody does. 2. The other cause of weird clutch action on VFR800s is that someone rebuilt the clutch plates with the wrong arrangement of plates, there are two different clutch setups for the VFR800, one for the 1998-1999s and one for the 2000-2001s. If you don't pay close attention this subtle difference can easily be overlooked.

Victor recently had the issue addressed. The clutch was not properly rebuilt when the pervious owner had the bike. It was actually missing a part which I can’t recall the name of at this moment, which was causing the issue

@@AdventureTomek judder plate? its like a very large washer that is slightly twisted to act like a spring. this should not be on the bike if its a 2000 or a 2001. the newer ones came without it

I spoke to a good mate of mine who has been working in the motorcycle industry for over 20 years. He said if the bike hasn't been ridden in a while the clutch plates can stick together. His remedy was to warm the bike up and then while in neutral pull the clutch in and rev the engine a few times. Do this 2 or 3 times and it should loosen the plates apart.

Actually, the VFR is a sport touring bike. The Honda RR is a sport bike. The VFR while shares components derived from racing its the RR that's the true sport bike. In the 0 - 60 and ¼ mile, a stock RR will have much faster times than a stock VFR. They are two very different bikes made for different purposes.
