Especially when it's Tool, ammirite? They truly defy classification. I want to call them progressive metal, but I really feel like that just doesn't do them justice, because their music covers so much ground! I came in, I found Tool, that's all I know.

So glad to see people falling in love with this band. Sober for something earlier, Parabol/Parabola and Vicarious for a little later in their career, and Pneuma for something newer. And if you're at all a Led Zeppelin fan, their cover of No Quarter. Whichever way you choose, it's all good. Spiral out, man!

I’ve been a Tool fan for decades now (I was born in 71) & to me it seems like the guys in Tool know something the rest of us don’t 🤨🖤🥶

Probably not a super common suggestion, but if you listen to everything in order, and do a little reading about Maynard, the themes of his life, and his mental development show through. It's somewhat fascinating to see him evolve from where he was with the Opiate EP to the feelings he shares with us on Fear Inoculum. That doesn't even begin to speak on the development of TOOL as a band with Paul on bass in the beginning and then Justin taking over after Paul left in 1995. Adam on guitar is always a treat. And Danny, man, he is just something else on those drums. I'm too high to speak justice on them all. My point remains, though, I strongly recommend listening to it all from the start, as daunting as it may seem.

Yeah, his vocals are unique, the whole band is. Some fans insist they are their own genre. So you want more? lol. Go back to the beginning with Sober, the 1st single from their debut album, and 2nd single overall. The 3rd album ,Laterlaus, is awesome. Schism, Parabola, and the title track. And for a song from their most recent album, Fear Inoculum, try Pneuma.

If you really want to hear their entire progression musically, check out their very first release, an EP called Opiate. It’s awesome!! It came out before Undertow with Sober, which was their first hit song.

"Kids Cover 46 and 2 by Tool / O'Keefe Music Foundation" is a great follow-up. Right in two, and a great cover of it - "Right in two (Tool cover) - Beard of Harmony ft. Yann Phayphet (Live recording)" Both versions of pushit... The full on Tool fans will treat you well with requests. These just happen to be my favorites originals to "covers"/alternates

Parabol/Parabola is a must in the catalog!..They MUST be done together!!!

Would love him to react to Aenima, Crawl Away, Intolerance, Vicarious, H, oh the hell with it all of their songs. Keep it up and "Learn to swim" 🌊

This blew my mind in 1997. They have so many tracks as intense as 46&2. For something a little different, I'mma suggest "Flood" off their previous album.

Sober, The Grudge, Schism, H, Stinkfist, Wings for Marie, Lateralus, Right in Two, Eulogy, Jimmy, 7empest. Honestly, you could take anything from their discography at random and find a gem. Enjoy the journey.

Tool songs come in many flavors so i'll just give a group of songs in different categories. If you want grand epic songs listen to -Vicarious -Lateralus -Parabol+Parabola. If you want heavy riffage and aggressive vocals listen to -Hooker with a Penny -Ænema -Ticks and Leeches If you want songs with incredible musicianship listen to -The Grudge -Third Eye -Lost Keys+Rosetta Stoned (its a weird one but its my favorite) And finally if you want more mellowed out songs with great pay-offs listen to -Right in Two -Schism -H I hope this isnt too long of a list but i think these are all solid listens that'll give you a lot of cool surprises, thanks for listening to my favorite band :)

I would recommend Pneuma next. It’ll be the longest song you’ve reacted to so far (just under 12 minutes), but damn near every second of that song is perfect. It’ll be a journey that I think you’d thoroughly enjoy.

@@davidward9737 Oh, I got that. I love every album in the order they are (especially Lateralus), however, if it opened with Eulogy then went into The Grudge I’d love it the same. The point is: “What’s your favorite Tool song?” I always answer “Yes” 🌀 Edit: And yes, I know Eulogy was on Aenima. Just saying that you could take any full track as an opener and it would be powerful. But I do agree that The Grudge floored me the first listen.

Check out “stinkfist” next brother! But you can’t go wrong w anything the tool army suggests. All amazing tracks. Also make sure you react to the audio versions of tool music and not their music videos as they can be a little distracting

If you ever get a chance to see them live this song will explode your brain. Especially the ending…..brings one to tears. I’m not kidding.

I looooove Descending! It's a mellow-ish song from their last album, with heartbreaking lyrics. Discovered Tool with the Lateralus-album (f-ing awesome, all of it) and initially found the older stuff a bit too aggressive (although have all cd's). But a lot of the older songs have grown on me over the years. Sometimes it takes loads of listenings.

Tool makes you wait for the payoff and they know exactly when and where to leave you speechless 100% of the time. I have listened to them almost daily for 25 years and still get goosebumps. I'm excited for you to check it all out. I would suggest either starting from the beginning at this point or if you want to bounce around, I would check out the live version of Sober.

I'm 59 and I've been Tool Army since 93! Wizards they are!!! It's the ultimate sonic and lyrical journey!

You'll love anything off of UNDERTOW> EARLY, YOUNG, PENT UP, RAW, ANGRY TOOL

Tool are the masters of the crescendo. They pull you along and you can't breathe and they soften so you can breathe, then pull you along again a little harder till you can't breathe and take a left turn then soften so you can breathe, then smash you over the head with a crescendo that goes from the bottom of the Marianas Trench to the summit of Mt. Everest in 30 seconds while going 100 miles an hour with no oxygen. Friggen awesomeness!

I loved this. You need to listen to Lateralus. Man you haven’t even began to understand the complexity of the masters of music in this band. Adam, Paul and Danny are geniuses. They will spend forever in the studio crafting, composing and writing their songs then they send the songs off to Maynard and he writes the lyrics and records them over the song. He considers his voice an instrument in the band just like any other member.

Go down the rabbit hole bro. Tool is one of the best Bands in the world . I got Into them when I got a bit older and understood Musicianship . Unreal

In 1996 I heard to the Tower Records store on Hollywood Boulevard in Hollyweird Ca to check out new releases on those listening stations they had in the store. There was a line outside for concert tickets but I had no idea who TOOL were and the line was for that bands concert tickets. I went inside and asked if they had this TOOL. and on the listening stations and one of the workers walked me to that station. I put on the head phones and this song was currently playing and it grabbed my attention right away. Those listening stations only play like 20 seconds of a song so the little I heard convinced me to buy the album which was The Aenima album. I unwrapped the CD and slid it into my Alpine and forwarded it to the song I heard in the store named Forty Six &Two. I literally played that one song on a loop all the way back home. And been a fan ever since

I think people get turned off by older Tool tracks because Maynard’s voice is mixed more of the middle of the track, it’s hard to hear him but it’s on purpose. They want you to listen more closely as well as his voice is an instrument. Lyrics are great but his voice is the icing on the cake.

That feeling, is called spiraling out.

Humans normally have 46 chromosomes. Maynard's lyrics refer to the Jungian philosophy of Drunvalo Melchizedek, who poses a thought experiment in which the human being has evolved from 44 chromosopmes to 46, and the next level of development is 46 +2 chromosomes. Maynard uses it as a metaphor for the evolution of the individual. "Picking scabs again" is about rumination on the psychic wounds, regrets, guilts, etc that we pick up and carry through life, "picking out what could have been." Jung proposed the "shadow" as a symbol of what we try not to see in ourselves; it is made of those things we pick at. We cannot grow by rejecting the shadow, we must accept our shadow and incorporate it into our consciousness in order to be whole and grounded. Make The Grudge your next track. Hooker with a penis is not recommended enough, in my opinion.

Tool is like Beethoven mixed with Gospel vocals and tribal percussions.

If you get just one TOOL ARMY person to join, you are on your way to being one yourself.

Now you know Danny! I think a lot of people new to Tool go into it expecting the traditional 4 band member sound and then are just completely thrown out the window.

So this is why Tool fans dig Tool reactions. As much as we love the music, The only real sense of wonder is on the first listen. So we get to relive it vicariously through react videos. I think you'd dig The Grudge, and Right in 2. Those songs are a bit longer and introduce their odd time signatures without changing things up too much.

Wait until you do a live reaction. Make sure to hit each phase of live show. Early, mid-career (peak performance) and then late (Maynard in the back but mind-blowing stage. Hint: Even though their music is so complex they're as tight live as on recording. As good as Tool is at recording, the real Tool experience is live. That's where they shine.

The intro riff to this song has been my ringtone for like 4yrs now. It's worth it every time. Word of advise, stop trying to predict TOOL, you will always be wrong. They are progressive and not formula driven.
