Don’t be skeptical. I’ve been using even my open bench vise jaws and a hammer to make round things for 25+ years. I made a press brake a number of years ago with a couple different jigs for variety in useful profiles, but for one-piece-at-a-time brackets and such hammering just the right shape is surprisingly quick up to 3/16” - 1/4”x2 is tougher. Making this tool for “standard” radius bends could be wicked handy; making a couple or three sizes a maybe with a bit heavier stock and a gusset on the lever pin would be really good, but I’m going to build them to handle 2” width stock, and put a larger tube over the pin as a roller using a heavier pin handle for longevity. They’re so compact and basically scrap for materials makes this a no brainer. Mounting to a stump as he did is ideal, but I think I’ll make them “loose” and put them in the vise for use; my shop is quite compact (28’ office trailer) so quick temporary setups are essential for usability. Great project idea! Two days ago I had to make two 7-1/2” diameter rings. It wasn’t too bad hammering on the vise as usual- fairly quick few minutes- but seconds versus ten minutes is worth the few minutes to make up a couple different radii of this.
