One FUJI Body, One Lens and One Film Simulation: London in Monochrome

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Can a single body, a single lens and a single film simulation drive your creativity? In this video I picked my FUJIFILM X-T20, a single FUJINON 27mm f2.8 lens and the MONOCHROME+R film simulation to tell the story of a day out in London at the end of June 2021 as the city began to come out of lockdown and personal restrictions were beginning to be lifted. The choice to restrict my gear meant that only choices I had to make were those of subject, composition, and aperture (I was shooting in aperture priority with ISO set at 400).

02:55 - Love for Fuji X-T20

    I recently started street photography and usually head into the city with Fuji 100V and Xt-4, I very rarely take the Xt-4 from my bag. So now I just put the 100v in the pocket with spare battery & memory card. This way it forces you to try get close or be creative. I recommend people try the one lens and it's not as easy as some might think.

    Beautiful images. I just bought the newest incarnation of the updated Fujifilm XF 27mm, with aperture ring and weather sealing, and it just always seems to be my go-to lens for general outdoor shooting. I use to mentally wrestle with the choice between the 23mm and 35mm lenses for a one-lens kit, but 27mm splits it nicely and with a bit of movement can do the work of either. I do the one lens, one camera, one film simulation often. I have my jpegs fully tweaked out (high lights, shadow, color, etc...) and shoot for the final image without any post processing, just like slide film in the old school times. While I have many current Fuji cameras, I really like the older sensor in my X-E2s. It is a real analog film look from that sensor. Again, terrific photos! I've been to London many times, but in the film shooting days before I went digital. Would love to revisit with the Fujis.

    Thanks- I’m glad you like the images. The X-T20 has the x-tran 2 sensor which is just a little more filmic than my X-T3. Lots of folk think the latest sensors are a bit too crisp and true. I like both but the smaller camera, esp with the 27mm is always so fun, I love it.

  • @KeithMasonPhotography

    @KeithMasonPhotography

    Hi there. I dropped the shadows, maybe by 1. Clarity is left as is, maybe now I would drop it by one also. WB varied depending on whether inside or out, but I find cooling the WB beyond where you would for a colour photo tends to give a little more crisp/contrast, but in each set up, I would check the WB output before taking the shot. Best, Keith.

    The shutter, aperture and iso was varied for each shot according to the situation (for example, the moving train one on the thumbnail was iso1250 | f/9 | 1/10s whereas the man sitting waiting for train in isolation was iso640 | f/2.8 | 1/80s. The settings for the simulation was the standard fuji monochrome with a red filter - I did not adjust contrast, blacks or whites, etc.

As did the XF23mm f2, the 35mm f2 and 50mm f2 but NOT the old XF18mm f2 and NOT the old kit zoom 18-55mm f2.8-4. Do a Google search and you’ll find the list.
