That would be interesting. I would be open to buying some festool bare tools.

I use the Dewalt Powerstack or Flexvolt batteries. Thinking of getting adapter plates for other tools.

Well good review on this item but the biggest issue is it can’t be used on a high level tools and cutting out protection is a big issue on this battery platform as best thing for this battery is a phone / cell phone in charger backup

I finally heard back from my rep at PD Nation and they do have plans for an 8ah. If that allows them to use bigger tools that would be a big improvement. Still things to iron out but that would help.

@@TinkerWithTools Still not worth the time and money on this platform of a multi battery use as there still be no battery protection from the tool to the battery as have you even opened the device adapter as I can say that there’s nothing for protection of overheating and charge on any device adapter that is a must on a battery platform on any device that is used. As look at other recent reviews on this platform as u can see for yourself

A blue one perhaps? There are several in the house. I grab which ever one is free.

It's probably tripping a short circuit or overload protection when using the 1 1/4" bits. Stalling out an electric motor is going to draw a huge current, and a higher capacity battery isn't going to fix that issue... only a higher power (or cell c-rate) will fix that. When they support PD100W charging, that's a good indication of when it will be capable.

It doesn't have anything to do with a battery c rate, just their electronics is setup too sensitively

Did you try charging it on a manufacturer's charger with the base?

It doesn't work, it only charges via usb and is limited to only 45w.

So I tried it just now on three chargers that I had already plugged in. DEWALT recognized it as fully charged and would not do anything. Milwaukee failed to acknowledge the pack was on it. Bosch lit up as if it were charging. I’ll try Makita later when I have a second and after the pack is drained a little and report back. I don’t think it will actually work but who knows.

Never been a fan of these types of solutions. Just buy the OEM battery and call it a day.

For your primary tools I 100% agree but if this made it so you didn’t have to have several batteries on any platform you wanted to be on just to keep you running, that’s where I see the potential. But as it stands I don’t know that it’s there yet.

When your oem no longer supports the product, specialty products, the loss of a battery can cost over a thousand dollars. I so far have had the cells rebuilt at $65 dollars a piece.

That's not the issue at hand. Let's say you have three DeWalt tools. Now you need a tool you don't have, and according to all the reviews you can find, the Milwaukee version of that tool is the best on the market and the DeWalt version performs about as well as Ryobi's version. The DeWalt version costs $399, the Milwaukee version costs $349, the Ryobi is $249. But you don't have any Milwaukee batteries, and you have three 5 Ah Dewalt batteries and an 8 Ah Dewalt battery. You're never going to buy the Milwaukee tool, because then you'd need to buy a Milwaukee battery and a Milwaukee charger on top of that. THAT is the problem. Once you've bought into one manufacturer's battery platform, you're stuck, because the cost of getting another brand's tools is far higher than just the cost of the tool. The tool companies know this, which is why their 18 volt battery systems, which all use battery cells from the same manufacturer, are incompatible with each other. Imagine for a moment, that your car would refuse to work if you put tyres on it that wasn't from that car manufacturer. Or used from that wasn't from that manufacturer. That'd just about be the dumbest and stupidest thing you could imagine. Now imagine watching someone saying "just buy the OEM fuel/tyres and call it a day".

I wonder if the BMS in the battery pack is not up to par... (Also, $50 for an adapter? no thanks)

I have to assume the pricing will have to be cheaper. Right now the Ryobi adapter in the indiegogo campaign is $30 full price and the sale price is $15. $15 doesn’t seem to bad.

Interesting concept, poor execution! Good testing and evaluation ‘Tinker,’ but on your closeups, I could see the questionable fit and finish and was not impressed. If they sort out the kinks, and improve the quality, this could be a game changer for some. Proprietary Batteries are a touchy area for manufacturers; They make a big profit on them, and know they have the Customer coming back for new ones. Cordless Tools are great to have, but the cost of ownership comes with it, like just about anything these days. Now I’m just babbling on, so take care and have a great Weekend!

Yeah, I don't ever see this (even with better execution) being a replacement for the batteries on a primary platform but more a gateway to using tools on other platforms.
