Thanks for the tips! I just had to stop a few minutes from the end to say I actually got it! It's not very well yet, but I can blow out and breathe in at the same time! I will continue to practice and hopefully be able to do this on my clarinet some day.

Excellent advice...pushing air out of the mouth is the skill to learning circular breathing. Once you can co-ordinate pushing air out of your mouth while breathing air through your nose, it's easy. I'd say people could be fairly competent in a day, if they worked on that skill for the day.

Play around a little bit. I had the same problem for the longest time. I finally found that by altering my mouth position a little, I was able to nail it as a noob. My main stick is actually a termite hollowed and has an odd shaped "mouthpiece" that is far from round and I really don't like the beeswax approach. I found that by shifting my lips up and constraining them more in the odd out of round portion, I needed much less air to make a drone. Hope this might be of some help.

Thank you Ondrej. Just one important additional question and information: What is the role of the tongue? Why does no air comes out, when you use your jaw only (6:40, 8:15)? I breath circular since 1992 and I always sense my TONGUE as the pushing element, no matter what my cheeks and jaw do.

Hey man!!! I cannot stress enough how articulate you are in explaining the technique. I saw your video and tried steps 1 2 3 for two whole days wherever I could find time. My cheeks hurt but I did it anyways. And third day I tried it on my Didgeridoo and I could hold the drone for Long with circular breathing. Is it normal that while breathing in the tone of the drone changes slightly? Excited to try out some rhythms now.

I have done the exercises diligently. It took me a good deal longer than 20 minutes with each technique, but I can finally stop the air from my lungs, inhale through the nose, and blow through the lips..... Problem is--I have to purse my lips tightly--it seems, to start the nasal inhalation. They are too tight to give me anything but a tight "Sprit!!!" noise. No resonance, very low volume. Any attempt to loosen the lips results in air from the lungs coming out once more. Anyone? .....RVM45

My problem with circular breathing is i can not keep enough air in my mouth to keep a note going through my Didgeridoo, do i need wax maybe? It is a 5ft long Didgeridoo so i am thinking maybe it is too big for me? I can play fine without the wax, honestly i think i play better without it but i can not seem to get the circular breathing without wax.

roflcopterkklol No doubt you've got it by now (if you have kept it up), but the trick I found was to practice making a resonating sound in the didge with a little squeeze of air using your check-and-jaw-blow as a separate exercise (forget about the intake through your nose part for the time being, but repeat that exercise away from the didge as well). Keep practicing this separate exercise until you can get a soft drone with the least bit of air squeezed out (it really wont require much effort at all). When you succeed in doing that consistently then you can apply the check-and-jaw-blow-while-taking-breath-in-your-nose exercise to the didge and you'll find it much easier now to produce a sound with the little squeeze of air.
