Ondioline synth update with coupled octaves
Музыка
Steve demonstrates the results of some modifications and repairs to our Ondioline after a service using Forgotten Futures English translation of Georges Jenny’s Ondioline schematics and instructions.
New functions include improved overall keyboard tuning and reinstatement of the bass and sub sub bass which can be adjusted with two (black) volume controls to the sides of the switch panel. As these were additions to the original design, the circuits were quite cramped and spidery before, so they have been careful rewired using rubber sleeves on all bare component wires.
The bespoke gain makeup amplifier uses one BC109 transistor and a 9.6v power supply derived from the main power unit (280v DC approx).

Learned about this through deadmau5's SRS interview. I had no idea this instrument existed! Its so fascinating learning about this stuff.
Deep in the subbass region, where only elephants can do their communication there was a call the Ondioline put out. A call in order to the notices we could watch at position 3:48 - a call for a custom patch sheet to neatly store all the awesome patches you've found out while exploring that fine instrument. And according to rumours that call was answered this night because computers yet can hear even much better than elephants can do ... All the best :-)!
Nice restoration. Always wanted to play one of those, nice to see it being looked after.

@@joshuatewolde1837 I know Clifford the big red dog - must check it out again!
Wonderful. As a keyboard player I've always want a wobbly keyboard mod thing, it's seems to natural that way, always want to do it on my synths.
Great videos.
I came here because Spitfire released a virtual version of this ;-) Nice video. Amazing realistic sounds.

6:20 do you get vibrato by physically wiggling the keyboard?

Yep!
Nice work; sure it took hundreds of hours.
how is the keybed on ondioline feeling in therms of playing comfort? im fascinated with the vibrato "on the key". Such a great idea.

It’s the best action I’ve ever felt for key vibrato. Very smooth and just enough resistance for controlled expression. Better than the Ondomo we have and a million times more expressive than a Roli Seaboard.

Check out French hit song L'Âme des Poètes by Charles Trenet from 1951. My 78rpm's label credits 'Charles Trenet et son Quartette Ondioline', suggesting they used four Ondiolines (multitracking wasn't a thing then) or perhaps that four sounds were played one after the other. It's on Spotify and it'll be on KZread somewhere. Let me know what you think. Great video, by the way. Thanks for sharing.

The last time I played that sublime song I did wonder about the obviously electronic instrument used. Thank you for your comment!
