This song is just so incredibly haunting and beautiful…the guitar in this version make it even more so

Hyperaktiviteten Sorry, sweetie but you are wrong and I will explain to you why. 1) Translating words from one language to another does not always get you a word that exists in another language. Yes, I know Tsar is emperor and Tsarevna is the daughter of a Tsar. However, people translate it to mean "Grand Duchess" but when you take it apart, it translates to "Grand Princess" " Anastasia's title is most precisely translated as "Grand Princess", meaning that Anastasia, as an "Imperial Highness" was higher in rank than other princesses in Europe who were "Royal Highnesses". "Grand Duchess" became the most widely used translation of the title into English from Russian." 2) Grand Duchess and Princess are similar but not exactly the same 3) The term Princess was liberally used in Russian Society, which is why the daughter of the Tsar had to be a "Grand Princess". If you read the 19th century Russian Author, Tolstoy, you will get an idea of how loosely they used the term Princess.

+JasmineAurora100 Technically there is no such thing as a Grand Princess. However if there were, that's what Anastasia's title would be. Grand Duchess is a basic translation to a princess. There really is no point in putting grand since she is not in line for the throne.

@@huitin1030 There is no such phrase as Grand Princess in English or any other language but Russian. Russian however, does use the classification of Grand Princess. The fact that no other language other than Russian uses the term Grand Princess is why people like you keep screwing up the translation. Read Tolstoy, the term 'princess' is thrown around much more loosely in Russian, which is why the daughter of the Czar was a Grand Princess

Yes, the thing that saddens me is that King George V wanted them to come here (Nicholas II was his cousin and so the Russian royals were related to the British royals) when he heard about the revolution, but the government didn't let them, because they were worried about Communists here, which made me think: GOVERNMENT ARSES!

I thought it was the opposite, that 6 months or more before they were murdered the Russian government asked George V to take them in and he wouldn’t because people in England were starting to become anti-Royal, so much so that he was worried about helping his relatives. Which is awful. :( He let some German/Prussian etc. relatives in but made them lose their Royal titles. I think it’s in the Netflix doc on the Windsors.

Tsar is the Russian word for Emperor. His wife was known as Emperess or Tsarista. His son was known as Tsarevich (son of the Tsar). Anastasia was a Tsarevna, which is commonly mistranslated as Grand Dutchess. It would be a literal translation of Grand Princess.

My son loves me singing this each night as well

I always thought she was a Disney Princess and they just decided to use a real princess story instead of making one up. I used to get pissed when I couldn't find Anastasia merchandise in the Disney store. The fact that this was loosely based on true facts made me love this film.

Anastasia is me and my mother's favorite movie since when was 4 or 5 years old long time ago back at 1997 or 1998.

No offense to this version, I like the other version of once upon a December better. I've loved all of the soundtrack songs to Anastasia movie since my childhood days when I was 7 years old as a kid brings me so much memories listening to them. As an adult at 28 I feel so old, I've feel like I'm in touch with my inner childhood days back in the 90's watching it and I still have this movie. ♥️♥️♥️

When I was younger, I used to think this movie had nothing to do with what really happened...actually, now I realize there's more that is pretty close. Like there was a girl who tried to commit suicide, and when she was found, she had lost her memory, but started remembering things about the Romanov family. She claimed she was Anastasia and went to Russia looking for her family, but tried to jump off the bridge when she had no luck. I guess she looked similar.

Anastasia is seriously underrated. yes, it may not be the best Don Bluth movie, and there are better Don Bluth movies out there, like The Secret Of Nimh, An American Tale, and The Land Before Time, but the movie's biggest strengh is it's songs and it's heart. Kinda like Meet The Robinsons.

When Marie feodorovna didn’t believe Anya was the real Anastasia. Anya has a freakin necklace that said “together in Paris” or at least asked “what was the last thing I gave you before I was meant to leave for Paris” and Anya answers “ a music box” and the grandmother asked “what was the song I sang to you when you were little?” And Anya sang once upon a December when Anya unknowingly reunited her grandma after ten years in her office.

Easily my favorite song of all time.

@jackiehallam62 We all do, I'm sure every child from our generation miss those years; Years filled with magic and mystery, Romance and innocent bliss. The days when we would bounce our way to the theatre to see animated classics like this beloved tale. If only we could breath new life and reawaken the magic of our bygone time and show the children today that not everything is drama. If only every child could hear the glorious song, I truly believe that this song, is the song of our generation.

Actually the correct Russian phrasing for Grand duchess is Великая княгиня Velikaya knyaginya and The Correct Russian Phrasing for for Grand Princess is Великая принцесса Velikaya printsessa and the Correct phrase for Grand Empress is Великая Императрица Velikaya Imperatritsa it is not Tsarina at all

I know! But the thing is, they didn't have to send them to Britain herself, they could've sent them anywhere in the British Empire, in which case if there were Comm. uprisings it wouldn't directly effect Britain and the King, I feel so sorry for King George V, he must've heard of his cousin's death but still expected to remain stern for the public! (The revolution took place during WW1 so he was expected to stay stern for morale)

Um... she wasn't a Disney Princess. Anastasia was made by Fox, not Disney. I liked her better than any of the other princesses around, though. Still one of my top fav movies.

Aww man this version is lame. What happened to the giant Orchestral swells? The obvious care and effort put into the singing? Whoever this is sounds bored out of her mind. The guitar bits are kind of nice, but... nothing to compare to a full symphony.
