FUN FACT I actually preformed this AS Papa Ge! It was so fucking fun threatening death upon my friend playing Ti Moune. The piano played by probably the best piano player I’ve ever seen in our town, plus a couple bass drums, a thunder sheet, and blood red lighting, holy fuck it was so fun seeing the audiences face light up with joy and a little bit of fear. Then I remembered I was supposed to be staring Ti Moune dead in the eyes and was now staring at the audience like an idiot. Yeah, this song and this musical was the best I had ever preformed. It was well over a year ago and I still miss it. I remember people telling me that they weren’t intrigued and didn’t follow the story until I came on stage because it was a school play, some people immediately recognized me as soon as I walked into the lobby afterwards, and one person said the music was so powerful it genuinely scared them when I pulled the knife out. I really hope I can play this again sometime. Is the best play I’ve ever done. 30/10 would prefer again in a heartbeat

It's a real narrative bummer that this track is missing... a pretty vital 2 or so minutes of plot at the end :p The only flaw in this entire recording honestly. This new cast beat these songs into the floor

I thought this came up in the original Little Mermaid too. The Mermaid was given the chance to kill the prince to save herself because if she didn't, she'd turn into seafoam. But then she couldn't do it because she loved him so she died. Been a long time since I read it though, so I could just be remembering a version of the story instead

Right!! That's what I was wondering...I think Papa Ge is being petty and recounting the night she slept with Daniel. It's interesting bcus in the 1993 cast they just heavily imply it happened...in this version it seems like they full out give u an example. Damn lol. I could be wrong though.

You only hear it when Papa Ge says “You loved him!” Then, after that line, it stops. I think it does have to play into the fact that Ti Moune slept with Daniel.

Because of this, the gods turned her into a tree that broke the gates of the hotel allowing entry for rich or poor (and breaking classism), providing shade for Daniel's children, and a meeting point for Daniel's son to meet a poor woman and fall in love. If timone killed Daniel, nothing would have changed and she would live a miserable life

No, even Erzulie acknowledged that death can stop a heart from beating. But Ti Moune proved that death cannot stop a heart from loving.

She was going to take his life in exchange for hers, but couldn't bring herself to do it. So she basically dies of a broken heart.

The part that's not on the recording is the last bit, where Ti Moune cries "I can't!" and drops the knife in front of Daniel and Andrea. Daniel picks up the knife and asks her why, and Ti Moune says "Daniel, I love you." But obviously Daniel and his family can't have a jealousy-maddened almost-murderess on the premises, so "Ti Moune was cast out of the Hotel Beauxhomme and the gates slammed shut behind her." She stayed by the gates, begging everyone she saw to let her back in, to tell Daniel that she was waiting for him. "And for two weeks, Ti Moune did wait by the gates. Not eating, not sleeping, only waiting, only watching as the grounds of the Hotel Beauxhomme were made even more lovely in preparation for the wedding."

I wanted Papa Ge's role so bad for our highschools play, but I got Andrea instead. Which was still fun! I loved her short and sweet songs But man do I wish I could have belted like this on stage "Promises the gods DEMAND YOU KEEEEEEP" that key change gives goosebumps

They really felt the need...to put weird sex noises... in a dramatic moment. Wtf where they thinking? 🫤
