FILMED ON FRIDAY 26-9-2014,
First flight: 18 April 1941 with piston engine (Junkers Jumo 210); 18 July 1942 with jet engines;
Retired: : 1945, Germany; 1951, Czechoslovakia;
Number built: 1,430
Introduction: April 1944
Primary users: Luftwaffe; Czechoslovak Air Force (S-92)
Developed into: Messerschmitt P.1099
Role: Fighter aircraft and fighter-bomber
Max speed
With a top speed of approximately 869.4 kph (540 mph), the 262 was 193.2 kph (120 mph) faster than the famed North American Mustang at the same altitude and, although not so maneuverable, was able to engage in, or retire from, combat at will.
The Messerschmitt Me 262, nicknamed Schwalbe (German: "Swallow") in fighter versions, or Sturmvogel (German: "Storm Bird") in fighter-bomber versions, was the world's first operational jet-powered fighter aircraft. Design work started before World War II began, but problems with engines, metallurgy and top-level interference kept the aircraft from operational status with the Luftwaffe until mid-1944. The Me 262 was faster and more heavily armed than any Allied fighter, including the British jet-powered Gloster Meteor.[5] One of the most advanced aviation designs in operational use during World War II,[6] the Me 262's roles included light bomber, reconnaissance and experimental night fighter versions.
Me 262 pilots claimed a total of 542 Allied aircraft shot down,[7] although higher claims are sometimes made.[Note 1] The Allies countered its effectiveness in the air by attacking the aircraft on the ground and during takeoff and landing. Strategic materials shortages and design compromises on the Junkers Jumo 004 axial-flow turbojet engines led to reliability problems. Attacks by Allied forces on fuel supplies during the deteriorating late-war situation also reduced the effectiveness of the aircraft as a fighting force. Armament production within Germany was focused on more easily manufactured aircraft.[9] In the end, the Me 262 had a negligible impact on the course of the war as a result of its late introduction and the consequently small numbers put in operational service.[10]
While German use of the aircraft ended with the close of World War II, a small number were operated by the Czechoslovak Air Force until 1951. It also heavily influenced several designs, such as the Sukhoi Su-9 (1946) and Nakajima Kikka. Captured Me 262s were studied and flight-tested by the major powers, and ultimately influenced the designs of post-war aircraft such as the North American F-86 Sabre, MiG-15 and Boeing B-47 Stratojet.[6] Several aircraft survive on static display in museums, and there are several privately built flying reproductions that use modern General Electric J85 engines.

    This is by FAR my favorite plane of all time. All modern jets are based on it's design in one form or another. Ignorant people like to claim the Allied jets of the time were just as advanced -- FALSE. Keep in mind the ME-262 was intended for one specific role -- to intercept incoming bomber formations, not for dogfighting enemy aircraft. The most beautiful jet to ever fly.....

    Tbobborap1 - I must say that is the best video production of RC flight I have ever had the privilege to watch. Installation of cameras giving the viewer multiple views of each maneuver combined with well thought out editing made viewing it an absolute joy. Of course superb airman ship by the pilot goes without saying. As someone else said - he sure knows how to land it, giving the viewer a beautiful demonstration of his skills. And what a beautiful example of craftsmanship in the building of this model of a wonderful piece of aviation technology of its day. But tell me, did you do all the work - building, flying and video production? Thank you so much for posting and for giving an old aviation enthusiast, and a former search and rescue pilot, a wonderful viewing experience. I absolutely LOVED the video and will definitely subscribe to your channel.

    Really great piloting and an awesome aircraft! One recommendation would be to weather the paint job and make it "dirty" with wear marks and age (appropriate for the period). That would add to the realism and make it even harder to distinguish from real. Keep up the great work!

Unbelievable amazing things what men build. Damn sweet build.

    Simply STUNNING. Incredibly modelled, fabulously flown and the extraordinary footage captured by the on-board cameras is truly amazing. In particular, the shots taken from the rear underside camera between 7'12" - 7'16" and 8'55" - 9'11" are so realistic, I'd challenge ANYONE who hadn't been previously informed that this was actually filmed from a model that it wasn't taken from the genuine plane ! *****

    Truly amazing to see. IF you didn't know it was a model, you'd think it was an airshow. And I love the on-board cameras!

    Most realistic looking flight I have seen so far. If the film was washed out, in black and white, and had film grain, this could fool most anyone as the real thing. Great takeoff and landing. Very, very realistic.
