I cannot believe this!!! I had been without the geny since the summer, tried jumping the solenoid, followed all the cables, spark plug, oil change, no one could tell me where to go, I was desperate and even though I didn’t believe it when I first watched your video, I tried it, not easy but low and behold IT WORKED!!!! omg thank you so very much!! I cannot even begin to describe the feeling of hearing that damn thing start again… THANK YOU!!!

George?......THANK YOU! THANK YOU! About 2 months ago I picked up a 30' Toy Hauler from a gentleman here in town, got a hell of a deal on it and brought her home to clean it up (orders from the wife before she would do her walk thru to give me her "thumbs up"). As I was doing the cleaning I came across the Onan 4000 that the seller forgot to mention! I cleaned it up, ran a temporary gas line to get fresh gas to the carb (the toy hauler had been sitting for a couple years before the purchase) ......pushed the start button and got nothing but the steady clicking sound. My thoughts went immediately to: "Yep......probably seized! ....Now I know why it wasn't mentioned...."Anyways, over the next few weeks did a tune up on it (plug, air cleaner, etc.) ....cleaned the hell out of the carb, ordered a new solenoid, etc, etc......I finally threw in the towel and decided what I basically had gotten from the previous owner was a 500 pound boat anchor! .....The bonus project was over. Then comes this evening. Im in my garage working on my Ford Expedition replacing all 8 ignition coil packs and watching this and that on You Tube to carry me thru this project. I hope you see where this is going..haha. I came across your video from my previous searches and sat down and watched all 4 minutes of it. When it was finished I said to myself "No! It can't be that easy!" I picked up my 14mm socket wrench, went out in the yard and sure enough that fan blade was frozen in place! The wrench cracked it free and what do you know?! That damn thing fired right up like it was fresh from the factory! George?....YOU ARE THE MAN! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! from balmy Las Vegas, Nevada. Regards, D. Scott

I had the exact same problem with my generator. Was all set to replace the starter, as I had bypassed the solenoid and it still would not turn over. Thanks so much for the tip. I just reached in and grabbed the fan blades and they were seized. I gave them a hard tug and they freed up. The generator now starts and runs perfectly. I am a happy camper again!!

This is how I fixed mine. In the case of: "I CAN'T START MY GENERATOR" It's has been two years since last time it was running, so I started by checking oil level full at gen (it won't start if low oil becouse of sensores), gasoline more than 1\4 tank in my RV (also safety censors), sparkplug checked for good spark, check the manual circuit braker (ON) at front RV engine compartment for current, also cleaned the carburetor and even installed new one but same situation, then checked wires and found some has been chewed by rats so I replaced them, by this time it started but stay runing only by keep pushing the switch on all the time, so I knew it was electrical problem from the engine itself, so I took the generator out from my RV to work in my garage, ( I did this by myself with some tools and old tricks) it's really heavy for one person. I disassemble the unit at my garage and started by removing the cover, then the cooling fan or flywheel unit (it's 2 items in one unit) until finally I was at the gen rotor and brushes assembly area and this is what I found: one more wire chewed by filthy rats plus the stinky rat nest in the middle of the generator motor coil, I fixed the wire and sanded the commutator copper contacts where the brushes are sitting becouse they were real duty with old urine from the rats. Then I assembled everything back together and bingo it's runing like a champion. For this project materials involved was about $60.00 including an aftermarket new carburetor and an harmonic balancer/steering wheel puller (available at any auto parts for $25.00) to pull the aluminum fan out and (flywheel). Just picture this: (Eny engine run smooth if gasoline and DC current aren't interrupted) so following this important principle you'll always find the problem to be fixed. Also if you have a onan microlite 4000 like mine, don't run it for more than a minute without the cover becouse you'll cook the engine real fast, also keep the eye on the aluminium fan and your fingers after cranking it in case you missing one or two members...just kidding. After testing the gen then put the air cooling assembly back and the rest of components including the cover and done!!! If this can help eaven one person save time and $$$ it'll make me more happy, thanks for reading!!!

My Onan 4000 won't engage and start it makes a clicking noise like a low charged battery would be causing it. I checked the fan in the back to make sure the engine wasn't stuck and all was nice and loose and turned over by hand. I just installed a new solenoid and it is still doing the same as when i had the old one on. She is getting her gas. We thought it was the solenoid. Could anybody give me ideas as to what could be going on with this generator. Thanks for any help. Ross in Nova Scotia

probably caused from poor brush contact on the starter. Similar to hitting the starter with a hammer on old cars.
