Just as a suggestion, instead of showing the side view of the 5th wheel for 5 min you could have included some slides of the stuff you were talking about, this would make the video more interesting to watch. Kudos for the kittens👍

Thanks for the video. I thought about an onboard generator but I kept noticing at dog shows that there were too many ppl with onboard gens having trouble. Especially at Dallas dog show in June. Also, it's much easier to refill gas than propane. Luv the kittens.

We had a onan 5500lp in our 2011 cardinal. I would go through 2 30lb bottles in less than 12 hours doing a day of tailgating for a football game. And all we had running were TVs and lights. No a/c running at all. Never will do propane again only gas or a diesel generator.

We have the same generator in our Mobile Suite. We have over 350 hours on the generator with no problems. A generator is a great thing of you travel a lot and are not in rv parks.

Good Information. If we traveled with our 5th wheel more, I would have a generator installed and/or solar. We take ours to a lake in SE Kansas on April 1st and pull it home Mid-October every year, although we did pull in up to Mackinaw last August, but had full hook ups at every place we stayed at. It would be very interesting if you did a full solar install on your new unit whenever you get it. You do a great job of explaining everything. Kent

Great video. A couple of folks already commented that the A/C's probably have the Easy Start installed, which allows you to run 2 of the 3 A/Cs. I have a 2014 Redwood with the same generator, two 15K BTU air conditioners, and I cannot run both A/Cs together without tripping the generator breaker. I'm going to install the Easy Start at some point, but at $300 each, I'll need to cross off some of the other planned upgrades off of my list!

This is why you haulers shine, having 60 gallons of gas. Even two AC’s is only about half load on a 5500, which is .5 gallons per hour. So 5 days of consecutive operation vs half a day

Our toyhauler generator is fueled by one of the two 30gal gasoline tanks onboard. If that goes dry, we can pump the 30 gallons from the fuel station over into the generator one for a total of 60 available gallons of gasoline if need be. We dry camp almost exclusively... And if we run just one of the two air conditioners... We typically get 45hours of continuous run time from the Onan 5500.

1 recommend selling the onan and getting a kabota gl11000. It won’t blow any breakers, will run everything including all three a/c units and burns .71 gallons of diesel an hour. It’s also liquid cooled. I use one in my 2017 cyclone 4018…I got rid of my onan/cummins 5.5 kw

Good to know because I have a rig that if I put a generator and will have to runoff of propane and I’ve always wondered how long it would last but I have 40 pound bottles so that would give me probably a little bit more time

My toy hauler has a 30gallon fuel tank which the same generator. We need to add the second AC as one can struggle in the NC heat and humidity. I think we could go 30hours+

Just wandering but, why dont they put larger generators on so that you can run more items? I mean this is a home away from home and ot can be annoying when you do have to shut off items or play the guessing game as to "What can I run or not run at the same time I'm running or not running certain items". I know the price changes but, is it even an option to go bigger? Just curious what you think and maybe what type of response the rv manufacturers may say. Love your channel and lo e watching your wife's channel too. Good luck with the kittens.

According to Cummins Onan, the QG 5500 LP Generator can power two 15,000 BTU A/Cs with approximately 400 additional watts available to run other stuff. Source: Cummins Onan RV Generator Handbook Publication Number F-1123 if you want to download it from the Interwebs.

Interesting video. We have one 15k btu ac on our trailer and use a Firman 3200 and run only propane. We can go about 12 hours on a single 20 pound bottle. The only thing that trips it is the microwave when the AC is also running. We can run everything else normally.

Not all Propane Fill-Up sites fill the same way! On our similar sized RV, we have two 40 pound LP tanks and when we only ran the central unit (90 degree day) we were able to get 12 hours out of one tank before it switched to the second tank. Now back to my original statement: When I filled up one 40# LP tank at a local U-Haul site they only added 8.x gallons of LP and then they stopped filling it. When I filled up a tank at our storage facility, they put in 10 gallons of LP and the tank was noticeably heavier. I’m guessing that I might be able to get at least 1-2 more hours out of the generator with the heavier loaded tank. I can only guess that the U-Haul site stopped because they personally take the tank from you , fill it, then bring it back and it’s possible they don’t want to carry any more weight so they stop before it’s filled. I don’t know what is normal gallons for a 40# tank and wondered if anyone else knew the safe load specs??

I believe Onan makes a 6500W generator. Would that be enough to push 3 15K BTU AC's? If not, how big would you need to go and is there even a generator capable of running all 3 AC'S that would fit in the average generator bay of a 5th wheel?

If you run Micro-Air Easy Start 364 in the AC units you might save some fuel since it drops startup amperage. Would be an interesting experiment.
