Mr. Ferguson’s observation is spot on! As a first generation Mexican-American woman who voted for Trump, I must say, It’s refreshing to hear an “intellectual” who doesn’t talk down to an “average person” as if we are missing the capacity to think simply because we don’t have a doctorate.

Here are two examples for you. 1. In Ferguson's book _The Pity of War_ he makes the case that Great Britain bore the greatest responsibility for the outbreak of the first world war. I disagree with him about this. Great Britain played a role in the outbreak of that war, but I don't think they deserve the blame for it. 2. Ferguson argued that the central bank's policy of extremely low interest rates and quantitative easing, which they undertook as a tool to fight the economic depression that occurred and persisted for years following the 2008 financial crisis, would lead to hyperinflation. I disagreed at the time (monetary policy was actually pretty ineffective because interest rates were already as low as they could get), and in fact, no such hyperinflation took place, nor does it appear likely to take place, so I think I was right about that and he was wrong.

I thought Britain only joined to honour their treaty with Belgium? Because honestly i can't see why they would have wanted to join otherwise, they had a tiny land army, lived on an island with the biggest navy by far and were the biggest empire in the world. I'm not a history buff but i don't get what benefits GB thought they would get, and definitely if they could go back i'm sure they would think a lot harder about the choice because WW1 saw them transfer all their wealth and a lot of their power to the USA. Even the financial Capitol of the world moved from London to NY and i think they have literally only just finished paying USA back the loans for that war.

Jeremy Corbyn terrifies me, but even worse is his Shadow Chancellor (wannabe finance minister) John McDonnell. This is a guy who, when asked what his inspirations for his economic policy were, on a mainstream TV programme, replied:"Marx, Engels, Lenin". This is a guy who once told a meeting or hard-left activists "we should create an environment so hostile that no Tory minister can set foot outside Westminster without so much security that he can't do anything." This is a guy who told another meeting (there's a video on KZread of this) "the problem with democracy is that it doesn't work for people like us. We have to go out on the street and take it by force. They used to call it 'insurrection', but now we have to be polite and call it 'direct action'. I prefer to call it what it is: 'insurrection' ".

We convict people for jokes and elevate people to Shadow Chancellor for treason. I'm being extreme of course but I'm getting to the point where if someone doesn't believe in free speech then I think that perhaps they should be held to their own standards. They are entitled to have no free speech and be prosecuted for opposing fundamental liberties. It's hypocritical and ironic but let's just call it the paradox of tolerance.

From the UK. Niall Ferguson is a man of the people, as well as a serious academic. He gets what typical, working class people think, say and consider to be major issues. He is not an ideologue, he uses his brain. I voted to remain I the EU at the 2016 EU membership referendum, voted for Labour at the last GE, but would now vote leave, for many of the reasons Niall cites. I have left the Labour party, fed up with the cultural Marxism, anti Semitism etc, and lack of support for working class people or realisation that mass immigration is perceived as a problem by many working class folk. I have now joined UKIP, which I hope will become our only populist party, a party for the people, not the elites in their ivory towers.

Freedom is money in your pocket. If the country is in bad straits economically, then we will only ever be reacting, trying to plug gaps in funding in schools, hospitals, the security services. If our growth stalls, stagnates or even falls. Then the government, whatever it's colour, won't be free to do anything. They'll have their hands tied by economic imperative. How is that for freedom.

Scots man. And I'm part Scot, from my grandfather who was close to being full Scot, who fought in the second world war, served 7 tours and came home, a corporal, has a few dozen confirmed kills, was a bear of a man, and probably one of the platoon's support gunners. The man was by all accounts a kind and loving father and gentleman who did not like violence and aside from disciplinary beatings that were commonplace at the time, would not raise a hand to anyone. He died 3 years before I was born. Would have loved to have met him. I get a lot of my temperament and disposition from him because my mom takes a lot from him. Gotta say I have a lot of pride from my Scottish heritage. Scots and people with Scottish blood are just known to have a heart of a lion.

Niall is so correct and as honest as a person can be . In regards to his concerns about Jeremy Corbyn , as an Australian , I can clearly see his point . Australia has just suffered our own version of Theresa May ( the betrayer of conservatism ) in the form of Malcolm Turnbull , also a false conservative . Because of the terrible performance of Turnbull , we will get the Australian equivalent of Jeremy Corbyn in the form of Bill Shorten , the leader of the Australian Labour party , and that concerns me greatly .

However pleased to know that he came to his senses and now support Brexit. He wouldn't know what the commoners were thinking if he's hanging around with prime ministers and such likes! The migrant crisis made me vote for Brexit. That and the BBC's coverage of it. I became pretty convinced that the BBC was actually "grooming" the British people to take as many people as possible no matter whether they were Syrian or not. Every time the BBC interviewed a refugee they were an "engineer" a "doctor" or "veterinarian". I knew I was being played and was fucking livid. Cheers Beeb! 😁

Yes I think that tipped a lot if people over the edge. We could see the open borders, the numbers, the terror attacks - then Angela Merkel unilaterally threw open the doors to Europe and we knew a lot of those people would end up with EU passports and the *right* to come to the UK, or would just make use of lax borders to get to Calais. Btw I also worked out his point about Atwoods book - women are already living in that world under Islam. The evangelical right in America is bad, but not in the same league.

I've read a few things by Niall and saw him years ago on Charlie Rose and really enjoyed listening to him. Between then and now I've become aware of a heck of a lot, in other words become "red pilled"(kind of a cheesy expression but, oh well) on many subjects. I've also become a fan of Dave Rubin. So I'm listening to Niall and it's as if he is living in a completely isolated world where things like the Deep State doesn't exist, there's nothing nefarious out there, it's all what you see on the surface is pretty much all there is. Politics is driven by the normal concerns of everyday people and is pretty much what it looks like it is. I was disappointed while at the same time understanding, that Niall has to be conscious of his "reputation". That was one thing I hated about academia; everyone is so self aware of how they appear to others. It's more than self-aware though, it's more like terrified. There are certain things you can not EVER think about or even ask questions about. For example, I was so surprised to hear him talk about 9/11as someone who completely bought the narrative, no questions asked. He described his reaction on that day and reactions afterwards. His thinking was of someone who had completely taken for granted everything that we were told was the truth. I'm not judging him, this is how I was for about 10 years after it happened, and I had read the 9/11 Commission Report cover to cover. I was just expecting an historian to have been at least aware of some of the questions surrounding something like that, especially when it would have very serious consequences to how you understand history and how things really are run. When I think of my own inability(mostly from fear of becoming or being thought of as "one of those") to even ask the questions or just slightly lift the veil on subjects like that, I can imagine someone with a reputation like he has it must be virtually impossible. Although, there are people with reputations who have questioned(Peter Dale Scott, Jim Garrison to name just two-and Garrison's reputation was completely ruined). If all that was involved in JFK was the lone nut assassin and 9/11 was the result of 19 hijackers who just happened to get lucky then the world really is as it seems. But if these things were, in fact, conspiracies that were perpetrated and covered up at the highest levels(to this day) then the world really is much different than what we currently believe it is. If these are true then our whole sense of how the world really works and what is important is a completely pretend world.
