Just a bit of Stockport history for you....... Indeed founded in 1883 as Heaton Norris Rovers by a local church group. Became Stockport County in 1890 and moved to Edgeley Park in 1900. In 1901 signed the first black player Arthur Wharton who was also a boxer. Signed the first £100 player. Played the longest F. A. Cup game in 1946 against Doncaster Rovers lasting 203 minutes and only stopped because it was too dark to continue. It was a replay after the initial draw at rovers. On the toss of a coin a third game was played at rovers and County lost 3-0. We also jointly hold the record 13-0 league home win record set in 1934 which was equaled i think in the mid 50s by Newcastle. The UK wide record is held by a Scottish team of 36-0. County also hold the record of 9 wins without conceding. Stockport in 1992 went to Wembley twice and were lead out by Danny Bergara - the first non UK manager to do so in a cup final and playoff final. Losing both games. In 1992 losing 1-0 to stoke in the autoglass trophy and 2-1 to the posh in the playoff final. Ironic that to get to the playoff final we beat stoke in the playoff semi 2 legs. 1993 lost 2-1 to port Vale again in autoglass final and in 1994 playoff final 2-1 to Burnley. In that game county scored the fastest goal in a domestic final after just two minutes. Sadly we had two players sent off and in the final few minutes Jim Gannon - later to manage the club 3 times including our first win at Wembley in 2008 playoff final 3-2 against Rochdale - he hit the bar with the keeper beaten. League cup semi finalist in 1997 and promoted to the newly named championship during which time we played 6 times against Man City winning 3 drawing 2 losing 1 in a city team which included kincladsae yup him. 😁. Best bit was watching curly watts - Kevin Kennedy and les Battersby - Bruce Jones both city fans walk out of EP after city went 3 down in 30 mins 😜😜😜😜. There, just a bit of history. Ps...... Stockport also invented football in the community scheme and in the 60s pioneered Friday night football.

Additional - our biggest away win 8-1 at Bradford city. Bergara was the first non UK caretaker manager for 3 games in 1975 at Luton where he was a coach. Prior to County Danny managed at Rochdale before leaving them for county in 1989 - 1995. He is a hero at county and when he died I had the privilege to attend his funeral in Totley Rise, Sheffield. A uraguyan man who topped the Spanish scoring lists in the early 60s and played for Montevideo.
