"On The Rebound", a #2 hit in the UK and #4 hit in USA in 1961, post-dates Floyd Cramer's immortal tune "Last Date". An up-tempo rock-n-roll reaction piece reflecting the moving times in Nashville and the wider world, this instantly recognizable piano-styling grew out of the country-pop-rock scene and became indicative of Floyd's popular piano mastery (for artists like Elvis, Roy Orbison, Brenda Lee, the Everley Brothers, Patsy Cline et al). He went on to have many other memorable recordings earning himself a place in the Country Music Hall of Fame and gold records galore.
I was first introduced to the piece while performing at the Country-meets-Pop-meets-Rock-meets-Vegas show, "The Carolina Opry" in the mid-2000's in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. At the time, I opted to perform (the slightly easier and) more famous "Last Date" which climbed to #1 in the USA in 1960 - but was always fascinated by the speed and dexterity required for this "On The Rebound" tune.
I feel I've mastered it sufficiently to offer this respectful (though not exact) tribute to the fabulously-talented and occasionally under-appreciated and influential Country Music Piano King - Floyd Cramer. Thank you, Sir!
