Thought I would introduce my sister to the fun of mineral collecting, and fortunately we was lucky enough to find some amazing gems

I’ve always wanted to go to wales, as I have heritage from there. Cornwall looks nice too, all the mining history

Hi! im off to cornwall for a couple weeks and id love if you could help with any tips about what sort of crystals I could find there and if the best places are beaches or rivers? :)

  • @ukgemhunters

Cornwall is an amazing place to collect, I would recommend rivers over beaches mainly because there a little safer I suppose... although water is dangerous regardless so take care. Look for areas of mining activity and if you can access the land with permission, or if there is a handy footpath then have a look around the old spoil heaps.

Ahhh amazing, super proud that you put effort into finding this place, and it paid off. I will be back up here in about a week, taking Andy as he is yet to try this place out😁 Make sure you have a good lump hammer and safety goggles, the iron stone really hurts when it splinters off.

that's what i'm trying to do now using that shot at 10:24 for reference LOL!🤣 i live in Cardiff and ride the Taff trail regularly so i'm going to have a good look around the Tongwynlais/Castell coch area this weekend! 😬 i've collected minerals and raw gems since i was a child but i'm only learning now that we actually have some great things to find here in Wales! i remember my father mentioning he and my grandfather would find garnets and i think zircons down at porthcawl beach using a sieve and small shovel too!

@@key_tan cheers will do! :) and there's some great places in Wales! where about's are you? i'm down South in Cardiff unfortunately but even a short bike ride up to Tongwynlais area has some nice places, if you have the means to get up to the Brecon beacons and Snowdonia then that's a right treat!

Is this around the Merthyr area? I have been trying to find places in wales to collect minerals and mindat pointed towards Treharris, but I'm struggling to locate public land to search on. I appreciate you want to keep it secret, but any chance you can nudge me in the right direction?
