I didn't realise it had made it this far with two principal actors gone. I don't think Arthur being absent matters so much but Stan being gone really makes Jack look lost on his own. They're a double act you can't have one without the other. It was the point of the show; those two constantly trying to get around Blakey. They should've tried to find a new buddy for Jack.

@@rad6666 Reg moved on because he wanted to make a career for himself off the back of his On the Buses fame which saw him become so famous in Britain as Stan that only a few series into the show he was featured on This is Your Life, unfortunately he overestimated his popularity as none of his attempts outside this sitcom succeeded including an attempt at another sitcom called Down the Gate (about Billingsgate fish market) which was dropped after twelve episodes. After this he never starred in another show again and took to touring Commonwealth countries who liked On the Buses to dine off his On the Buses fame for the rest of his life til a stroke ended that (not his life but touring), while Michael Robbins who was a classically trained theatre actor simply left cos he wanted to go back to theatre.

The others were good, but only because the dynamic worked with the interactions between all of them. Once you took Arthur away, the scenes at home lost a lot of comedy value and the series had no chance when Stan had gone.

I disagree Arthur mattered, he was a side character, but Stan did matter cos he was the lead along with Jack, they were a double act whose goal every episode was to get around Blakey, Jack on his own just looks sad and putting Blakey in their house with them doesn't work cos they're sposed to be avoiding him not living with him.

Is it just me or does Olive look really cute in this episode?
After Stan left, it was almost as if Blakey was put into the Stan role at work, especially as they gave more air time to the General Manager, and in this episode, the Area Manager, to highlight the hierarchy.
I loved this show, but even then it was donkeys years old. However, it felt empty without Stan and Arthur. The writing was on the wall when these two characters left.
