@@EdwinDekker71 Should I trust the empirical evidence of my own experience? Take an intercontinental jet flight and you will be high enough to see the curvature of the earth for yourself. Furthermore, if God created the world with the appearance of old age (because the preponderance of the scientific data suggests a very old earth) when it is in fact not old, wouldn't that constitute a deception? But the Bible says God cannot lie. I believe that God wrote two books: the book of scripture and the book of nature, and they are not discordant.

Though you probably disagree with my view too (dynamic omniscience, flexible future, God knowing all possible future actions according to every free will action), I’m looking forward to this book as well. 😀✝️

I think if you add scientific and philosophical knowledge to an unbiased hermeneutic of scripture you won't be disagreeing for long. Sometimes our well-intentioned heartfelt bias can cause us to ignore certain evidence and arguments. Watch any YEC/OEC (Young Earth Creationist/Old Earth Creationist) debate and see which side is using scientific evidence and which is only relying on their interpretation of their English Bible based on subjective rudimentary understanding. Consider the philosophical implications of God commanding us to do things and setting up a reward system for our good deeds done in faith and then having Him be responsible for the deeds and rewards - is He then a respecter of persons? Those who hold YEC views and 'Calvinist' views often hold science and philosophy in low esteem to the detriment of their listeners and their gospel. I wish you the best on your continued pursuit of wisdom.

@@ReverendElation while I appreciate your sentiment, I'm not so sure it concludes logically with an old earth view. The same presuppositions you assume (read: presupoose) for your worldview are on similar ground with the the YEC. I don't have my foot in either camp, except to say we ought to be intellectually honest, at the very least.

@@av8orCH-47 thanks for your comment! But the idea of examining the evidence of science isn't where the logic and philosophy comes in. The logic comes in with the philosophical implications of the free will argument. Saying "everyone has presuppositions" does not mean we don't examine data. And if you feel that no new information will change your mind, then you're cutting off valuable information streams and will become mentally and spiritually stagnant. Only presuppose that you can be wrong and that there is more to learn. Any other presuppositions clouds the search. Never be afraid of data or thought. This is how we honor God with our intellect and show ourselves good stewards of the mental faculties he gave us.

@@ReverendElation to be sure, and of which I'm absolutely in accord. It just seems to me that too many jettison that which ought to be given a fair shake based on the presuppositions they have without considering exactly what you said. But suppose there is data that already exists that isn't "new," what are we do with that, lest we come close to the genetic fallacy? Point being, if I die and find out that the earth really was created 7 to 10k years ago, in 6 literal days, I won't be surprised. If I find out it's millions or billions of years and Yom means age instead of day, then I'll be as equally unsuprised. We obviously all have presuppositions, that isn't really the argument. The argument is are your presuppositions justifiable in light of a potential intellectual defeator. Is that fair?

Works systematic theology by Wayne Grudem be a good recommendation?

Hi Alex, it depends on what you are interested in. Here's some books on Systematic Theology I would recommend. Systematic Theology by Wayne Grudem is more inclined towards Calvanism. Christian Faith by Michael Horton is more Reformed Theology. Systematic Theology by Norman Geisler is more Philosophically approached.

Grudem is good, but he's not as philosophically astute as others. Grudem is Reformed. He's also charismatic and credobaptist, which some Christians respectfully disagree with. Still, Grudem is good for a more basic or beginner level introduction to systematic theology. Personally, I'd recommend John Frame's Systematic Theology for a Reformed systematic theology that's more philosophically in-depth than other systematic theologies. Frame was a philosophy major at Princeton University, and he pursued a PhD in philosophy at Yale University, though he did not complete his PhD. However, this background puts Frame on firmer philosophical standing in comparison to many other theologians. The main weakness of Frame's systematic theology is he doesn't delve too much in historical theology, but I don't think that's a huge weakness. Also, some people don't like his triads, but he's always maintained the triads are largely meant to be pedagogical so one doesn't need to pay too much attention to them if the triads don't work for you. By the way, Grudem was Frame's student, and Frame has said he has made use of Grudem's systematic theology in writing his systematic theology, so you get some Grudem in Frame too. If Frame's systematic theology is too big to tackle, then his much shorter and introductory Salvation Belongs to the Lord is a slid choice too. Frame writes in a conversational style so his writings are usually quite easy to read, even when they address complex issues.

I don't know which kind of theology this could be classified in, but the almighty God simply cannot be here now because He is supposed to A) being able to make decisions and AT THE SAME TIME ALSO B) to know the future. But this is impossible because the two conditions are mutually exclusive. This is why God is somewhere else.

@claudio zanella, Molinism would answer that people make free decisions, and God reacts to these decisions, yet he had middle knowledge from the beginning of time, knowing how people would freely act under which circumstances, and then choosing the best possible of these worlds. Another option would be Ockhamism (see Plantinga's essay on "Ockham's Way Out"). God foreknows the future, and the free decisions of humans. The free decisions come metaphysically before God's knowledge. Another option would be that God is out side of time (Anselm, Thomas). To him, all moments of history are likewise present. And a possible option would be open theism: God foreknows all that CAN be known, which includes all that he determines to do or bring about, and general tendencies.

@@rn9940 Thx, helpful. Well, according to your comment my theory (I made a theory) could be classified as Ockhamism, because "God foreknows the future, and the free decisions of humans. The free decisions come metaphysically before God's knowledge." However, HOW is in Ockhamism the foreknowledge of the future obtained? In my theory the foreknowledge of the free decisions of humans is obtained by means of an OBSERVATION OF THE FUTURE by God. I assume that God's eyes are able "to travel" into the God's future in order TO DERIVE INFORMATION regarding our free decisions. In other words - since we have free will - you never know what we will do: we need to be actually TESTED. Thus, God gets that information by an OBSERVATION of our ACTUAL actions in his future.

TL;DW. There is little substantial difference between a philosopher of religion and a systematic theologian.

"Some argue that the Church must go through the Tribulation to be purged or cleansed. But the true Church has already been purified by the blood of Jesus (Ephesians 5:25-27; 1 John 1:7; and Romans 8:1). The Tribulation is not a Protestant purgatory. The symbolic imagery of the New Testament focuses on the Church as being the Bride of Christ. Is the Bridegroom going to beat up His Bride for seven years before He comes for her? I think not. The Bible says that Jesus is coming to deliver His Bride from the wrath that is to come (1 Thessalonians 1:10). Also, Revelation 19:8 and 14 pictures Jesus returning with His Church at the end of the Tribulation, indicating the Redeemed will be taken out of this world before the Tribulation begins. Revelation focuses on the Church in its first three chapters. Beginning with chapter 4, there is no more mention of the Church during the entire period of the Tribulation. The Church is not referred to again until Revelation 22:16."
