45:13 - 48:35 This is EXCELLENT. Gordon Clark argues that the definition of pistis, THE SUBJECTIVE MENTAL ACT OF BELIEVING (as opposed to pistis, the OBJECTIVE BELIEFS), is always the same. The meaning of the word doesn't change when a Christian is believing or when a demon is believing. The difference is in the PERSONAL APPLICATION of the OBJECTIVE BELIEF that "God is one." To Christians, it would bring comfort, IF APPLIED. To demons it brings fear. Yet the Christians in James were FAILING TO APPLY the truth (while the demon applied it - - and shuddered. Note that Jesus came in the flesh to deliver men, not demons). The whole point of those chapters of James is that the Christians were failing to PRACTICALLY APPLY God's word. 48:35 Craig comes to the wrong conclusion when he says "Mere belief is not enough for saving faith." WRONG! Belief is enough. SOLA FIDE!!! What the Christians in James lacked is that they failed to APPLY. In other words, it's not enough to believe that Jesus died for "some people's" sins. I must believe the applied objective proposition that Jesus died for "MY" sins. If it is not applied to MY self interest, then I will lack the desire to persevere.

21:40 "The positivity of this state [acceptance] is not to be confused with the favorable evaluation . . ." In other words, you can believe that [accept] your friend has been hurt in a car crash, but not DESIRE it. Gordon Clark says that it is NONETHELESS an act of the will: "with pain and regret he accepts it, against his previous will, but nevertheless voluntarily." (p. 52 What is Saving Faith) Of course, we all know that the first stage of loss is denial. We won't accept that it is true. This is an act of the will/volition. Or to say it another way: SELF-INTEREST is not necessary for BELIEF. But it is necessary for TRUST. The demons believe that God is in heaven. But that makes them tremble in fear of their SELF-INTEREST (looking forward to a lake of fire, not streets of gold). We're talking about ACCEPTING that something IS true, not necessarily WANTING something to BE true.

All in all, Craig defends propositional revelation. For that I applaud him. But please watch my videos: What is Saving Faith by Gordon Clark. Knowing that pistis has both a SUBJECTIVE and an OBJECTIVE meaning will clear up so much.

Another example of a UNIVERSAL scripture being PARTICULARLY AND PERSONALLY APPLIED would be applying Ephesians 5:23 teaching that "The husband is head of the wife . . ." Of course, this scripture means one thing to a man and another to a woman. The same UNIVERSAL principle, but PARTICULARLY APPLIED to each. The husband will reason "I am a man, THEREFORE I am the leader." Note that this is a necessary logical IMPLICATION, not a matter of cause and effect. The woman will reason "my husband has leadership authority." (Please note that this in no way is contrary to her self interest. She is way better off in a family than alone.)

Dr. Craig, I have been following all of your videos and appreciate your passion for the truth and explaing it to others. I agree, we do have to define terms -- a lot. I do have a question: I have a book that is coming out and I feel you will want to read it. I have been led to a set of 'systematic' understandings that I do not believe have been revealed to be known, until now. Is there a better place that I can contact you at, about that? Thank you and God bless, Rob 🙏

27:27 Alston's error is that he doesn't discern that assent is SUBJECTIVE, not OBJECTIVE. Please watch my video: "What is Saving Faith by Gordon Clark" to learn Clark's distinction.

I have a video called: What is Saving Faith by Gordon Clark. Please watch it to see a major distinction between OBJECTIVE and SUBJECTIVE faith. I really think Craig is missing the whole boat here.

I know that this lecture was based on a very specific topic, but I would have loved to hear WLC talk about how belief and faith coincides with actions and choices. I love how Jordan Peterson explains that his actions are what in fact bring his belief in God into reality. Yet, WLC reminded us that faith requires more than belief that something is true. Someone must have a positive perspective/reaction on/to that truth in order to have faith IN God.

30:35 "rationally decisive evidence."?? People assent to things without "evidence" all the time. Clark jokes about the high-school students that he taught in his early 20's, that they assented to teenaged superstitions but doubted Euclid's principles of geometry, which were the basis for the plans of the building in which they were standing. Clark states: "Assent has very little to do with objective truth." Assent is a SUBJECTIVE issue.

Craig's analysis of "non-resilient faith" is wrong. 19:23 Faith can mean the MENTAL ACT of believing. But it can also mean the objective CREED believed. If one departs from sound CREED, it doesn't mean he had the subjective MENTAL ACT, then lost it. It means they parted from the church that held the correct CREED.

49:49 Faith PLUS??? WRONG! FAITH ALONE!!! The difference in James 2 is in the OBJECTIVE APPLICATION. Application is merely taking the universal eternal truths of the Bible and drawing implications between propositions (as one does in a syllogism). Everyone must personally apply those ancient scriptures to ME. This does not change the definition of the mental act. It changes the objective proposition believed. "Jesus died for believers, in general" becomes "Jesus died for ME." A change in the OBJECTIVE proposition believed.
