About 8 years ago my sons put a 4" cap on my water tank, which is under the bed. They also added a float valve so it never overflows. I open it up, clean, and sanitize it once a year. Then I fill it with water from my well before I head out and feel comfortable drinking it. I also carry 3 gallons for drinking if I have to fill up away from home.

Completely agree, we always bring cases of Ozarka water or other brands to drink. We make sure that dishes and silverware sit out in the air for 9 hours as well, giving oxygen time to do its thing as well. This does mean we either soak or leave dishes until after dinner, and put them up in the AM, making sure to use fresh dishes and silverware from the cabinets just to be safe.

@@Thom1973 - I get the bottled water from home, that depends on the area you live in. On water tanks in an RV, most people add bleach, or some other antibacterial as standing water goes bad in about 3 days. I like to stay out about 5 or 6 days, then return to a town to laundry, shop, flush tanks, etc. Have you ever replaced a hot water heater? RV’s are no different, heat + time = mold and gunk. We turn on our hot water twice a day, morning and evening and we DO NOT DRINK OR USE THE HOT OR COLD WATER FOR DRINKING. Why? Because you have some water in the tanks that remain for months at a time.

My fresh water tank cracked a couple years ago. It was only 3 years old. The dealership could not find a replacement and neither could I when I started calling around. So I dropped it to plastic weld it and the tank already had a lot of mold in it. I cleaned it out and sanitized it but we have never drank out of it. The plastic weld fixed my tank and haven't had a problem with it since.

Bottled water all the way for me. The only water I drink from my tank is what I make my coffee out of, and it is boiled in a tea kettle before it is dumped in my old aluminum drip coffee maker.

I have used my water system since new in 2015. All water is filtered in and out. Then we have a Berkey. Never had an issue but by sounds of it you never will drink it that is your choice. Yes I do drink it out of the tank if need be. Awesome video Joe 🇨🇦🛠️🇨🇦🛠️🇨🇦🇨🇦

    a) One of my hobbies is walking wrecking-yards aka 'dismantlers'. After the aluminum skin is recycled off a junk factory RecreateVehicle, the innerds are visible. A translucent 'fresh' water tank often has inches/centimeters of sludge and sediment. . b) We are comfortable drinking Reverse Osmosis ('RO') water from dispensaries. . c) I hear about micro-plastics leaching from petroleum-based tanks and bottles. Apparently, drinking that muck is bad? . d) In our ExpeditionVehicle, our water is in five-gallon stainless-steel retired Pepsi kegs. Advantage: * if one gets stanky, the others remain in-service, and can help clean the problem-child. * some can go to town for re-fill while the others stay at camp. * one keg can be loaned to a caravan chum. * a keg can go to the picnic-table or campfire.

Totally agree with your system of bringing containers of H2O on board for drinking! In an emergency, because we triple filter ultra violet light I would drink it! I don’t drink water from my house without boiling!

When I got my camper it had water in it for a couple years because they thought it was drained. Now because of old lines, and old tank. Nope won't drink it. I have water jugs I fill, one has a pump on it.

I've had RV's for 20 years and we've been drinking the water out of the RV's fresh water tank since day one, I'm on my fourth motorhome. I just removed my 100 gallon fresh water tank to replace a drain valve on my 2019 coach, which I've bought new, and after a thorough inspection of the fresh water tank I see no reason to change my practice. There are four water filters in my water system, one before it goes into the fresh water tank, two before the water goes into the coach and the fourth one is in the refrigerator. The water taste the same as it does coming from my tap water in my home, which is only filtered once.

Been rving since 2006, on the 4th rv, always got a brand new never used rv, have never sanitized the water tanks, don't store water for long, have always drained tank asap if not needing it like at a full hook up. Tank drain valve always stays open over winter. Have no issue making coffee with the tank water, or cooking, or teeth brushing, etc but always brought bottled water, n pop, n coolers for drinking. N a 5 gal water jug for backup. So in a sense the same as u. 🍻

I always clean and sanitize our water tank and we also have a filter system but I only use that water for bathing, washing, etc. I use bottled water for drinking and cooking. Even if we have water hookup, I don’t drink from that and only use for bathing, toilet, washing Dishes, etc. I’m just not comfortable with it.

I do not have an RV but have stayed in a few ......... I have used the water to drink but i usually only drink coffee so i boil the water to make coffee......... i have a question if you do not drink from your own R.V do you drink water from your tap??????? i am a construction worker that has done plumbing in houses and apartments and the stuff i have seen in the pipes that CLEAN water ran through nearly made me puke........ i would rather trust water out of an R.V to make coffee with and when i make coffee at home i boil the s**t out of it to make coffee........ Joe because you do so good at keeping your R.V tanks clean i would drink the water from your R.V but i probably would not drink the water out of the taps at your home until i boiled it

Water in an RV sometimes doesn’t get drained and aired out for months. Meaning it’s a bacteria cesspool. Depending on your coffee pot, water has to boil for a full minute to kill bacteria. So, if you’re using a coffee press where you boil the water for a minute then make coffee, you’re good. If you use a Mr. Coffee, Braun or other type coffee machine, or a Kurig type, they bring it to a boil and it immediately is forced out. So if it was me… I’d use bottled or something that hasn’t been sitting in a dark tank for a month.

@@RVingWithJoe most people never think about the water in their homes but think of how old your home is and when the pipes might have been redone .......... if you are afraid of your clean RV tanks then i would be drinking bottle water all the time ....... however if you think about it why is there a Best Before "BB" date on water ......... the reason is because the plastic bottle bleaches into the water turning the water bad

@@Thom1973 - I occasionally drink faucet water, but buy cases of water whenever I’m at the store. And as the best by date is a year or so in bottled water, more if you store out of sunlight, yeah. Bottled water contains a mild antibacterial addition to prevent bacteria growth.
