On a Hill Far Away (The Old Rugged Cross) (Tune: Rugged Cross, 4vv) [with lyrics for congregations]
"On a Hill Far Away (The Old Rugged Cross)" was written by American Methodist minister George Bennard in 1913. He wrote the first verse in Albion, Michigan, in the autumn of 1912 as a response to ridicule that he had received at a revival meeting.
It is performed here by the London Fox Choir.
Video background by Chet Valley Churches; early morning in Chedgrave, South Norfolk.

This Hymn is my wife's favorite one. I learnt it & others by heart in 1965 in Chávez, Coahuila, Mexico. An American II WW military missionery & his wife(Marine Subltt) taught these Hymns & patriot American Songs too. George B. Shea, Ernie T. Ford, Bill Gather, etc. and others Singers are frequently listened by my family. Thanks for sharing this Redemption Hymn. I'll share it with many others who studied between 1965-1980 in that Carl & Mary Tornbom's Missionery Home. Million of Blessings from North of México 🙏

I love this🎉
The Old rugged Cross 1, On hill far Away stood An old rugged Cross The Emblem of suffering and shame And I love that old Cross Where The Dearest and Best For a world of Lost Sinner's was slain So I'll cherish the Old rugged Cross, till my trophies at last I lay down I will cling to the Old rugged Cross, And exchange it some day for a crown 2, Oh that old rugged Cross, So despised by the world, Has a wondrous Attraction for me for the Lamb of God left his Glory above To bear it to Dark Calvary So I'll cherish the Old rugged Cross, till my trophies at last I lay down I will cling to the Old rugged Cross, And exchange it some day for a crown 3 , In that old rugged Cross, Stained with blood, so Divine A wondrous beauty I see For ' twas on that old cross Jesus suffered and died To pardon and sanctify me So I'll cherish the Old rugged Cross, till my trophies at last I lay down I will cling to the Old rugged Cross, And exchange it some day for a crown 4 , To that old rugged Cross, I will ever be true it's shame And reproach gladly bear Then he'll call me some day To my home far away Where his Glory forever I'll share So I'll cherish the Old rugged Cross, till my trophies at last I lay down I will cling to the Old rugged Cross, And exchange it some day for a crown

Great question, Bob. We're sure there would be lots of answers but this one must surely be up there. 😊

I know, this one is truly a gem. However, another really great, beautiful one is "Be Still, My Soul".
