Here is the translation of the sign at 23:40. "Our sacrifice, our fight against fascism." For the living people as a reminder and an obligation". I think thats a memorial that has something to do with the "death-march" at the end of World War 2, were KZ-prisinors had to walk houndret of kilometers to the center of germany. Only a very few survived.

15:00 regarding the Taxis: In Germany Mercedes is known to give enormous discounts for a variety of industries among them taxis (but others as well like police or even hearses). This was part of the "marketing strategy" to have their cars omnipresent in public. This was particularly the case for the epoche depicted in Original OMSI (the Mid 80s), from which the taxi assets in X10 originate. Later other manufacturers have discovered those markets for themselves and competition is strong today and Taxis of almost any make or model can be found today in Germany. But in the 80s it was almost impossible to NOT ride in a Mercedes Taxi. Colour of Taxis in Germany i regulated and has to be the signature beige. In addition German Taxi drivers have to successfully pass a test to show their proficiency and knowledge of their local area, including being able to work out the shortest (and cheapest) route from A to B from the top of their head. They aren't allowed to pick up passengers outside their area of expertise and are obliged, by law, to use said shortest route, but can deviate under certain circumstances if necessary or agreed by the customer. If you find a German taxi chauffeur to violate this, he/she can lose their license. Taximeters in Germany are subject to regular inspection and recertifcation by the weights and meaures standardisation authority (through the german MOT system). Fun Fact: A taxi driver is allowed to drive without a fastening the seat belt, but only if a passenger is in the car. This is to quickly escape the vehicle in case of robbery. While Taxi drivers are obliged to accept any fare and passenger, there is a subset of exceptions when they might refuse, but it is very specific.

If you find a German Taxi driver in violation of this law, he/she can lose their license. To further prevent fraud, the taximeters are subject to regular inspection and recertification by the authorities. A German Taxi driver is obliged to accept any fare and passenger requested with very few exceptions (danger to health or live, obviously unable to pay etc, but the cirucmstances are narrow). Fun Fact: German Taxi drivers are allowed to drive their vehicles without fastening their seat belt, but only if a passenger is present in the car. This is to quickly escape the vehicle in case of a robbery. And the reason why you are expected to sit on the rear nearside seat, to maximise distance with the driver.

  • @TheCloudhopper

Nope the law's in place since seat belts became mandatory. Most Germans are more afraid of other Germans than anything else and rightfully so.

TheCloudhopper That's what I said, since crime rates are so high the social norm in a taxi is for the rider to sit as far away from the driver as possible. That's sad...is it because of all the Mohamedens that have been allowed to immigrate and settle in Germany that crime rates are so high?

  • @TheCloudhopper

    @TheCloudhopper

    8 жыл бұрын

Jonnie Bangkok Well for one to debunk your obnoxious racism: Most of the humans you are referring to in derogatory terms wouldn't have the money to ride Taxi on a regular basis. Plus the last couple of times I visited Germany I didn't have a single "German" Taxi driver. Most of them had turkish names (and some told me they were children of migrant workers born in Germany), one Ghanese (nice chap, probalby the safest driver of the lot) and two Syrians, would you believe it. And again, most crimes against taxi drivers in Germany aren't comitted by foreigners according to official statistics.

+Jonnie Bangkok There was a case in Germany, I remember, when a serious of murderd taxi drivers were found in Munich ( I think) . After that, heavy discussions were startet to improve the drivers security.

I'm from Berlin and I know all these buslines. It's somewhat funny to watch this video, done by a tommy =D Btw the memorial you drove by on 23:39 says "Our sacrifice, our fight against fascism and war - As a reminder and obligation for the living" --- You have to know that Teltow was part of GDR (East Germany), there were and now are much more memorials like that in East Germany. You could say that almost every East German town has a memorial like that one.

+Squirrel Mercedes was, and still is, the main supplier for taxis in Germany. Good conditions, good reliability (it was), a lot of space and rather economic. For example, the late 70's and early 80's Mercedes W123 200D (55 hp, E-class equivalent), as it is represented in the game, was the taxi well into the 90s (when I was young), running with ridiculously high mileage. At 23:40 translates as roughly "Our victims, our fight against fascism and war. Admonition and obligation of the living."

The answer to your taxi question is simple Squirrel: 1. All taxis in Germany have to be this eggshell colour and Mercedes will give better rates if you buy a taxi from them but traditionally the Mercedes Diesel engine lasts much longer for shorthaul long mileage.

whenever you are in town you're only allowed to drive at max with 50kph. these areas are marked by the small yellow boundary signs. If you're not sure if you are in or out of town, just look out for the priority sign at crossings. If it's before the crossing, you are in town, if not, you are out of town and the speed limit is 100kph max

I think the white line on the roundabout is a reserve area. Normal traffic, cars, vans don't cross it but articulated lorries etc can cross if they need the extra space. We have similar types of roundabout in the UK - just a different method.

With regards to your comment about taxis - Mercedes-Benz offers large subsidies for the taxi trade as it is a good way to advertise the ruggedness of a car. It isn't common in the UK as it's a much smaller market - however some dealers (Skoda in my area do it) will knock off a few grand off the list price of a car if it's to be used as a taxi.

  • @iomex_

+OMSI BoTW Forgot to mention that I'm a taxi driver, lol. Also in Europe, people are indeed a bit more picky about the vehicles they get in than UK passengers. In Berlin, taxis are beige as that's the colour the city demands public taxis be painted. Similar rules operate in the UK (for example Brighton taxis have to be white with a green bonnet) - local councils decide the taxi rules so obviously it varies from place to place.

When you went through the off trafic lights where im from you would have to treat that as a all way stop but in germany it might be different.

+Squirrel In Germany, because they love so much their country, all the public service vehicles (like buses, taxis, police cars, ambulances etc.) are german. Also all of the taxis are beige because that is the standard. Every where in Germany you will see beige taxis. Even if it is a Mercedes, or a Volkswagen... Mercedes is the choice of the Berlin's Town hall because they are operating those taxis.

That's not exactly true, in Berlin we also have VDL Buses, which is a Dutch company, as well as Solaris, which is polish company. Furthermore there quiet a lot Toyota Prius taxis nowadays in Berlin. :)

When you said there is no announcer on this bus, there is you just need to program the IBIS with the route and line to get it.

They buy Mercedes-Benz because are the most reliable cars,up to 1 million kms without major repairs, the color is just the color all the taxis must have like in Barcelona,Spain the doors have to be yellow and rest of the car black and in Madrid all have to be white!

the taxis are all Mercedes-Benz because they have a high resale value. It's the same in Denmark, where cars are otherwise far more expensive than anywhere else.

Kind of late, but there are a lot of Mercedes-Benz taxis because they are reliable and Mercedes produces the most cars in Germany. Although they are expensive cars in other areas, Mercedes is a domestic car brand, so they are not nearly as expensive in Germany, especially compared to the other German car manufacturers.
