Basil definitely is in love with Sunny, nobody would ever cover up the death of one of his closest loved ones, for the sake of their safety, even if it destroys everything they once knew, unless you were in love with someone. I feel like Basil genuinely has feelings about Sunny, and that’s what makes this so extra sad. He lost someone he loves. And Sunny’s corpse had become his Something. The only thing that could have made this worse is if when Sunny saw Basil for the last time, he realized that he no longer wanted to die, and Basil now lives with the guilt that Sunny’s final moments were terror and despair all because of Basil.

Idk. Sunny/Basil ship is good and all, but uou seem to underestimate friendship, and not romantic relationships in general. There are quite a few cases of parent's covering up their children crimes (sometimes they even cover up the fact of their kids kills their sibling), even though they, and their children can get caught (and it's kinda can destroy everything they once knew). So I don't think it doesn't necessarily have to involve romantic feelings (English is not my first language, but I do hope that I manage to get my point across).

Yep, Sunny kills himself and Basil unsurprisingly does the same, Audrey is consumed by guilt because of how she treated him, does ends herself too, Kel can't handle being alone, thus is next on the line, and finally Hero can't live without his brother and friends, probably being the last one to die.
