Omo's First Watermelon Smash (Kind Of)
Ойын-сауық
Four-month-old Nile hippo calf, Omo, is growing and learning every day. Although he's still nursing to get all of the nutrients he needs, he has started to explore solid foods. Because his parents, Zambezi and Biko, and his aunt, Kasai, love to smash watermelons, we couldn't resist seeing if Omo would be interested in this little melon, sized perfectly for our little hippo.

@boglarkaszabo5031 I didn't mean to disregard mama hippos. My point is that baby hippos can introduce humans to darkness relatively quickly with their tremendous strength and power.
So this is what 'Hungry Hungry Hippos' is about.

Mom was like, sorry bro, too slow.
Ah cute! He will grow to a fine living murder tank 🥰
I just knew that mom was going to steal it, LOL.
OHOHOHO SO CUTE!!! I love then Omo can't crush it, mama Zambezi crush it so easily and intentionally leave a perfect piece for Omo to try out, thoughtful mom & adorable kid, can anything be better???
They are so adorable when they walk around with their mouth wide open
The mom actually left that little piece on purpose! Amazing how they give little bits of food just how we break a little piece off of a sandwich to a baby.
So this is how the game hungry hungry hippo came to be.
I love, love, love Cheyene Mountain Zoo. I went there as a child, took my son when he was young and now my grandchildren❣️
Omo’s mum has decided that Omo will find all the watermelon nutrients in the breast milk. 😂
This is too adorable 🥰
Hippos have the cutest little feet!!🦛❤
Mother hippo's head itself look bigger than her whole baby hippo 😯
Seeing him trying to put the whole ball-shaped melon in his mouth reminded me so much of the game hungry hungry hippos!

It totally looks like the Hungry Hungry Hippos game!
Maybe next time roll half of one at a time while keeping mom busy. Cute little baby💖 I was a little kid, 1st time at a Zoo and there was this really thick glass type thing where a Hippo the size of mom in your Zoo. It looked at me, and raised it's leg and went pee on the glass. Funny, I was really little at the time and that's one of only two animals I remember seeing. The other animal was a Goat that ate my straw hat.😂😁 😎🖒
Mom was willing to help, for a hefty price
Mom's just a big ol' Hoover vacuum.
I'm Anita: This is just too adorable! Little baby hippo's are so cute!
He’s learning!
Amazing how cute yet dangerous that animal is. Like a polar bear
It's crazy how babies bring stuff to life like this watermelon perhaps😂
I played this game a lot as a child, back in the 80s
Adorable.
A lot of people say hippos are dangerous, but nothing this cute could be dangerous!
i can't believe the zoo attendant went anywhere near that mama. her head is probably bigger than the whole of the human.

Our keepers say they have never seen aggression from our hippos. These hippos have built trusting relationships with their care team, so they don't feel the need to defend themselves from keepers. But, because of their size and their potential as wild animals with instincts, keepers only interact with them from the other side of a protective barrier, for everyone's safety.
Thank you for sharing - very enjoyable
So adorable!❤️
I just LOVE baby animals 😊❤❤❤😊
Thanks mom! 💖
The mums head is massive
Mama and Omo are my spirit fuel
Cuteness overload .
Aww back when Omo was so wittle
Is it real, couldn’t believe, Ma sha Allah MashAllah
Lol moms like enoughs enough! No more playing w ur food son! I’ll get this done for ya!
I'm glad his mom did it for him because he would not have been able to😂😅
How cute
That reminds me of one time as a kid I was picking strawberries in the forrest with my grandma. After an hour or so we collected half a cup. I proudly showed it my mom and offered her a taste and she took the cup and poured everything into her mouth.
Getting up close to a hippo mom (even in a zoo) requires guts!
Mom said stop playing with your food.😂
a memory of an old flash game came up suddenly as i stared at the water melon
Ha, I had a black cat called Omo...........(Now I've got one called Cobweb......(Sweet vid...........
I think Fiona and Fritz have some competition.
No matter how aggressively dangerous hippos can be, you gotta admit those soft, large heads are really cute. You just wanna hold their giant muzzle, shake 'em a little and say, "who's a good puppy!" Luckily I know better than that, and zoo staff would be quick to stop me anyway.
He learns from her mother how to eat.
Happy Turkey Day, Omo!
Mummy hippo is huuuuge
The deadliest mammal on the continent, scared by a tiny watermelon.
Aww this is a cute video!

Many people have outdated views of modern zoos, but the reality is that we do so much good for the animals in our care, and for species in the wild. Zoos accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA), including us, meet stringent animal management and care standards to achieve that accreditation, including living environments, social groupings, health, and nutrition. AZA also evaluates each accredited zoo’s involvement in conservation and education programs, among many others. Our veterinary team is involved with creating cutting-edge treatments for issues that affect not only our animals, but those in the wild, as well. We are a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that receives no tax support. We have partnered with our guests to send more than $4.5 million since 2008 to help conserve wild species around the globe, and often send our staff experts into the field to help them, as well. We are proud to be part of the solution. As an accredited member of the AZA, Cheyenne Mountain Zoo participates in many Species Survival Plan (SSP) programs. These programs are run by species experts and involve the detailed tracking of species genetics for animals in human care. With global animal populations declining, many of these SSPS have helped to put animals back into the wild. Species such as the California condor, Wyoming toad, black-footed ferret, golden lion tamarin and scimitar horned Oryx would not exist in the wild today if it weren’t for zoo breeding programs. If you’re open to expanding your horizons, feel free to learn more about our Zoo at cmzoo.org/news.

You need to get with the times. Zoos and sanctuaries are now one in the same in many regards. Zoos handle the breeding, while sanctuaries handle the rehabbing. They can’t do it without the other anymore

This little hippo now weighs over 1,000 pounds (the video you're commenting on here was posted in November 2021), and you can watch him smash a whole (still small) watermelon in this updated (July 2023) watermelon smash video: kzread.info/dash/bejne/gpZ3uryChJq1iLw.html
They should have put mom in another section, so baby could learn how to crush his little melon.
Seeing them from that angle really shows how horrifying it would be to have one of those after you.
