Omicron reducing intensive care admissions

Big time, (at least in the UK, not so much in the US)
Cases down, but not necessarily infections
Confirmed government case data is missing thousands of LFT results, leading to massive under-reporting.
This subtle but important change in behaviour, highlights the importance of having multiple methods to track COVID in the population,
We saw a similar rebound and second peak during the Delta wave as people relaxed more and children went back to school.

CDC data

Three dose protection against omicron
ED and urgent care encounters, 82% compared to unvaccinated
Covid associated hospital admission, 90%

• Omicron's second peak:...
Reinfection
7 to 8 % of cases had delta or alpha
Association Between 3 Doses of mRNA COVID-19 Vaccine and Symptomatic Infection Caused by the SARS-CoV-2 Omicron and Delta Variants (21 Jan 2022 JAMA)
jamanetwork.com/journals/jama...
Prior receipt of 3 mRNA vaccine doses was reported for 18.6% (n = 2441) of Omicron cases,
approaching 200,000 new cases a day,
hospitalisations, ICU cases and deaths are still coming down,
as Omicron is less severe in a vaccinated population.
It seems many are, again, preempting the end of the COVID-19 pandemic.
It’s much too early for this.
High case rates will likely be with us until late spring before the warmer weather and the summer holidays help reduce infections again.
and shows the power of the citizen scientists that log with ZOE every day.

I am a retired RN. Over the last several weeks I have had many friends and family come down with Covid, including myself.
We all weathered it fine except for one, 61 y/o female relative.
She developed pneumonia and ended up in hospital for 3 days.
Thankfully, she is home now with oxygen PRN.
But....she is the only one who is morbidly obese, type 2 diabetic with poorly controlled blood sugar.
To me, that says a lot about risk.
Pitchfork
As a kid in grade school in Boston during the 1970s and 1980s, I remember that there were always about 3 or 4 kids who had weight problems in my class.
When I was a substitute teacher from about 2000-2008, more than half of the students in any given class had weight problems.
This problem has been trending in the wrong direction for decades in the US.
Exacerbated by cheap, unhealthy fast food, and sedentary lifestyles.

This man has sitting by the bedside of many a dying patient. He as seen dozens of people dying unnecessary because of insufficient health treatment in developing countries. It, obviously, has not broken him. And those fancy boys nd girls criticising him? He will simply shrug that off. He might be personally offended, but not hurt. This man is a hardened practitioner. The ones criticising are some cry-boys. There is a difference between men and boys. And it is showing when knowing what to look for.

Maybe lessons for the Australia and the world in this to consider. Maybe the audience here are more informed, partly because of Dr. John, but the global population generally are unaware of the story of the Danish mink culling, what caused it and the lessons from it we still have to weight in, in relation to any predictions related to Covid. To avoid anyone drawing wrong conclusions, make misinterpretations etc. I will try to tell the "longer story" because I find it vital that people know this. In the early stages of the time when Covid spread, Denmark had a scientific project ending, why we could use the genom sequencing capacities used in that project instantly, instead of using it for the next planned project, why Denmark from the very beginning have had genom sequencing of all positive Covid tests. The combination of our governments decision to grab this opportunity and also make testing free of charge and accessible, provided Denmark with excellent real time monitoring of what was going on, long before the first vaccines arrived. The global science community, that still not had the insight they wanted, to know how to respond in the best way, created an international genom based "variant database" where the global science community/nations could upload any local detected variants, not already there, thus enhancing monitoring and knowledge broadly, but also functioned as an early warning tool, to be able to call alert, if a variant suddenly showed to be more aggressive etc. Dont hang me on the date but maybe around 15/4 2020 around 200 to 250 different variants had globally been uploaded. Suddenly here in Denmark we got an extreme explosion of variant detections in some geographic clusters. In a matter of 4-6 weeks Denmark discovered over 5000 (!) variants and subvariants of the variants. These around 250 global variants thus became 5250 in a months time. Because of our test and trace program, it soon became clear that these originated from persons working with mink farming. Investigations soon proved that minks were very prone to get infected with Covid. BUT the scary lesson were that it turned out, that the minks also could pass the virus on, BUT THEN ALLWAYS in an altered form!!! It turned out conclusively that minks COULD NOT pass on Covid unaltered, thus they acted as Covid mutation variant "machines". We saw many milder pretty harmless variants but also 1 that looked pretty ugly and a rigours test and trace and very hard local isolation efforts were immediately applied and it turned out to be effective. I believe 7 persons in total ended up as being final tally for that variant. While this happened Denmark wanted to protect its citizens and not least the world and took the drastic, but ever so responsible decision to cull our entire farmed mink population! Some other countries in Europe that had substantial mink farming, like fx Belgium looked at Denmark and did the same thing, others, like Sweden, UK or USA did not. Denmark had, measured per Capita, the worlds largest concentration of farmed mink and represented a substantial value for Denmark, employing many thousands. What is the key, epidemiological seen, here are that the knowledge that these animals cannot pass the virus on, without creating a new variant, are to be seen, as a picture, as lottery tickets. The more tickets you have in the lottery the larger chance you have for a hit (a dangerous deadly variant). Around the same time, or a little before, as Denmark culled their minks I saw a story from USA where a very large mink farm suddenly lost half their minks to sudden disease. I tried to follow the story but not more were reported. Truth are: Had the severe variant found and stopped in Denmark in 2020 happened basically anywhere on planet earth but Denmark, it probably would have ended up sweeping the globe because no one would have been able to identify it before it already were to late. And that could have had ended up with a completely different global Covid related death count than the current. The case with the physiology of minks, that they cant pass on the virus in an un-altered state, should be part of the global knowledge regarding this virus. IF we globally dont make sure that these farmed animals are culled or as a bare minimum are isolated and its staff rigorously tested/monitored the risk of a variant with potential fatal characteristic's are high. Right now we, globally seen, are buying an frightening lot of "lottery tickets". The recent pet hamster culling in, was it Hong kong?, indicates to me that these animals MIGHT have same physiological characteristic's and MIGHT pose same danger as minks. I hope this information was helpful and lifted your knowledge.

I am home with Omicron as I write this. I was fine when I woke up Wednesday morning and went to work. I put on my mask, like I'm mandated to, and went to my classroom. I taught my 1st through 3rd period classes without any problems. However, by 4th period, I was starting to have aches and pains all over my body. By 7th period, I was so tired I was fighting to stay awake. I asked my administrators if I could go home and was told to stay since I didn't have a fever. Well, my temperature never did get above 98, but I tested positive for the virus anyway. I had myself tested at two different facilities, in two different counties, and they both came back positive. The aches and pains got worse all day Wednesday. I also had a headache, runny nose, congestion and sneezing to go with the pain and fatigue. Thursday morning the pain was gone, but the sinus issues persisted. By today, Friday, the only thing still bothering me is the runny nose and congestion; and even they are improving. Honestly, it was like having a 24-48 hr flu without the fever. I had COVID back in September too. Between the two, this one has been easier on my body. And no, I have no clue which variants I've had. The symptoms were the same both times, they just lasted longer the first time. Oh, and I haven't lost my sense of smell or taste like last time either. Here's hoping that I don't.

I do think there may be a test for determining if you are in ketosis, (maybe a urine strip? not sure...) but if you are on a strict keto diet with under 10-20 grams carbs per day, and you start feeling better on day 4, you can be sure you are in ketosis. Good luck everyone, may you be safe, happy, loved, loving, healthy, and live long and prosper. peace.

As a U.S Citizen who went to elementary school during the 60's and 70's, I can tell you how the obesity in children happened. Schools have decreased significantly time for recess and lunch time, few have physical fitness time or PE (structured by a teacher). When I was a kid we also had after school playtime, and lots of free activities to choose from baseball teams, soccer teams etc etc. Few children ride bikes to school or are even allowed out to play for fear of kidnapping etc. All of that has contributed to child obesity.

Maybe lessons for USA and the world in this to consider. I hope this information was helpful.

I began teaching in Primary schools in 1992 and there were only a handful of children with weight problems back then in every school I worked in, and that was the UK. It was very rare to have an overweight child in Year 6 (10 and 11 year olds). By the time I left teaching in 2014, there was on average, half of the Year 6 struggling with weight, a significant percentage seriously. It saddened me to see what society and the fast food corporations had done, but they couldn't be fully blamed for that change. Media and advertising of course but just as importantly, parenting was a factor. It is a huge problem and obviously more so in the US. Everyone has the absolute right never to be discriminated in any way for their weight, health, addictions etc, but sadly, a massive deterioration in health and a overwhelmed immune system comes alongside this issue. The vaccine WONT fix this, it can't. This issue goes much, much deeper, decades deeper even. That's where people need to be focusing support and guidance. 🙏

As usual, I find your analysis ahead of the curve. Here in the Philippines, the nation experienced a large spike in cases in early January. Cases have come down significantly since then. Testing here is nowhere like in Denmark, but my sense is that the omicron has become the dominant variant. Rates of hospitalization and IC care remains relatively low (about 20%). As things stand, I am grateful for the vaccine when delta was raging. However, as omicron takes over, I am sitting on the fence over the need to vaccinate the kids. Am thinking that I should let the omicron run through our home and depend on natural immunity. On a more serious note, I am re-evaluating our life style behaviors and making gradual changes. I think in the end your videos have helped place us in a very good place with regard to the worst of the covid and moving us toward a healthier future.

Unfortunately, most people don't understand the methods used in virology, so they don't realize these fictional "v-!-r us" objects have never been seen or found in a person's clinical specimen. They're ONLY found as artifacts in cell culture experiments that virologists perform. Yet, these things have become the modern equivalent of "evil spirits" for today's society. Beliefs. Really. Maybe lessons for Philippine's and the world in this to consider. Fortunately, our older population is fairly well taken care of due to Medicare. Disabled and people below the poverty line are usually eligible for Medicaid. Thank God we have these programs. We need universal health care in the U. S. to cover our very important working population: ages 18 to 65, and this is especially true of the 55 to 65 group when job security is not as great and chronic conditions become more prominent. I think getting rid of corn subsidies would help. Part of the reason that poor people are so much more likely to be overweight is because food manufacturers shove high fructose corn syrup in absolutely everything. A jar of peanut butter without it costs at least twice as much

Regardless of your detractors you, John Campbell and Roger Seheult, MD in California are still far and above others who report pandemic information. In the event that you report information that is not correct, to any degree, you report it live in your daily forums. You do not attempt to defend what you incorrectly report or explain it away. Rather, you do the right thing: report it, explain it and apologize, as soon as you validate it. That sir is integrity. Keep on keeping on.

I do have a comment (I'm at 17:24) -- BTW your lectures have been fantastic! What isn't mentioned so far is that triply vaccinated folks generally are older, less healthy, (immunocompromised, etc) and so more prone to infection of any kind. Also the naturally infected folks -- those of the I believe 7 -8 % group noted here - have SURVIVED round one of Alpha or Delta, [south Africa generally younger] so both/all of those may skew the data in favor of natural immunity. Which is kind of all we're left with (i.e vaxxed and natural immunity) at this time. Nature has self selected out those most prone in the 7 -8 % group. Just a thought.

John, I love your channel. you are giving and explaining actual data and letting folks make decisions for themselves based on the information. That is the same for the health issues here in the U.S. Folks make choices everyday...in their lifestyle - exercise, how much they eat and what, how hectic (busy) are their lives, etc. Many of the health issues are because of these poor choices....also there are low income folks that eat a lot of fast food and that does not lead to good health outcomes (I am not blaming them, they are on a tight budget). When you go to a restaurant here, they give folks 2x as much food generally as they need....make a choice to take half of it home...we found out during the pandemic how many folks eat in a restaurant one meal or more EVERY DAY.....take time to eat at home! Alot of this comes down to choices and personal freedoms. There are many of us here in the US that do take care of ourselves...see a doc regularly (contrary to popular opinion, most folks do have access to health care or can get it fairly easily, they just don't care to)

Another topic to think about is why the fast food is unhealthy. I'm not so sure that is just burgers and fries that are unhealthy, but more what goes into those particular burgers and fries. Of course too much fat, carbs, and sugar is not healthy. I'm talking about additives, preservatives, processed, and gmo foods. I have made an effort to only eat fresh fruits and vegetables, fresh meats, and no preserved or packaged items. No over-processed sugar or flour. In fact I'm trying to cut out all flour and move on to sprouted grain breads, or no bread at all, instead using lettus leafs. In a year I've lost 35 pounds, by cooking at home, and doing away with processed and precooked foods. I still eat what I want, and watch my portions, but I don't count calories, and I don't starve myself. I plan to start growing my own fruits and vegetables, because of high prices, and I want to know what goes into the food I eat. I just watched a video about making raised beds from a large cardboard box with the top flaps folded down, surrounded by chicken wire except the top. The bottom is filled with decomposing branches and leaves, and good organic soil on top. I have been saving seeds from; peppers, melons, tomatoes, sunflowers, beans, peas, flowers, etc.

Maybe lessons for USA and the world in this to consider.

In the US there has been a dramatic decline in small farming and ranching and a huge corporate takeover of food production and distribution. In addition to the plague of fast food is the plague of processed foods. This processing of animal and plant food is barely regulated. The treatment of the land, the water, the plants, and the animals is horrific. The only motive is profit. Not healthy food. Much of what is sold as food in the US has been genetically, chemically, unethically produced. So even if you eat real food, you consume chemicals that alter your hormones, make you resistant to antibiotics, and destroy your digestive tract and micro biome. If you can afford it, eat only organic, humanely raised, sustainably sourced food. And support small farms and ranches that live up to that ethic. Lay off the carbs. Up the veggies and fruit. Easy on meat and fish. If you must buy something in a box, read the label. There’s sugar in everything.

As in the UK, the availability of RATs (LFTs) in Australia is improving. In Australia, the TGA regulates which test kits can be sold here and publishes data on which ones are at what level of effectiveness: > 80% sensitivity - Acceptable > 90% sensitivity - High sensitivity > 95% sensitivity - Very High Sensitivity At least in NSW and Victoria, positive RAT tests are legally required to be reported and are included in daily case number reports. PCR and RAT test numbers are differentiated. In NSW, parents are issued 2 tests per student per week (issued fortnightly). In the first week back to school, reports of 3000 students across the state testing positive. TGA has been accepting Manufacturers' reports of sensitivity of RAT tests including self testing kits. However, arrangements have been made to start testing them independently. They are also reporting Manufacturers' results for detection of variants. Many on this table are Point of Care tests, not self tests, some only report up to Delta. The brand I bought is listed as Very High sensitivity, but is not currently listed in relation to detecting variants.
