I want to give you a dozen more 'likes' on this one. Elvis was a big fan, often attending her shows in Las Vegas, and later recorded this song himself. Another record hit of hers was, "What's A Matter Baby (Is it hurting you)" . ps, Going down this rabbit hole, try "Just Say I Love Him".

She is considered to be one of the first blue-eyed soul stylists of the rock era in the 60's. She was a contralto so could go deep, almost in a masculine voice & used the occasional sob in her songs. "Hurt" was her biggest hits but some other songs are "What's A Matter Baby", "Smile", "The Love Of A Boy", "Make The world Go Away", "Permanently Lonely", "I'm Movin' On" "Let Me Call You Sweetheart", "I Apologize" etc.

Timi Yuro was a pop singer who had a throaty and soulful voice with a big hit " HURT"(1961) Also had other hits with "I APOLOGIZE ","FOR THE LOVE OF A BOY".Borrowed her blues jazzy style from singers like Dinah Washington and Nancy Wilson . Born Rosemary Timotea Aurro (8/4/1940-3/30/2004). This was cover by Elvis Presley.

Such a great singer, I could never understand why she didn't have more top ten hits in the U.S.. This song reached #2 on Billboards Hot 100 and "Make the World Go Away" hit #8 on the country charts. But she did continue recording and doing live appearances, and was still quite popular in many other countries until she got married in 1969. She did make a comeback in the Netherlands in the 80's and was very popular there for about five years.

When I was in the business all those years ago Peter I was told her label at the time Liberty drenched her in strings when they should have developed her as a blue-eyed soul/R&B/jazz ballad singer. Instead, they wanted a cabaret singer. Some songs are pop covers & she seldom got songs as powerful as "Hurt." The producer of "Hurt" was Clyde Otis -- who worked with Brook Benton & Dinah Washington, so she had first-class people behind her. She moved to Mercury Records & she had better material but it was already too late. She did have Willie Nelson, Quincy Jones among the producers who took an interest in her. Her talent & voice never failed her. She had some minor hits but radio & good marketing failed her. Her song "Interlude," should've been a major hit. "Cuttin In," is a hot soul-deep one from the Mercury years. No reason this was not a hit. Spanish-flavored "Why Not Now," was also wonderful. This is the music business, it's frustrating. If you haven't seen her live Dutch TV clip (1982) on KZread singing "You'll Never Walk Alone," watch it. I think you'll be impressed with her. I was. I wonder why this was never released as a live album. Incredible stuff.

Shawn & Mel -- watch one of Timi Yuro's last live performances on Dutch TV (1982) of "You'll Never Walk Alone." Be sure it's the live version, to see how powerful her voice comes across in concert. The TV images are a little fuzzy, the audio is excellent. Spine chilling contralto voice at the finale. So spiritual & masterful. She's one of the few singers who could sing alongside Aretha Franklin with ease. But few even knew that. Her "Interlude," (from a motion picture) is a beautifully haunting song many have forgotten but those who discover it add it to their playlists. People have told me they never heard of her, except for that one hit she had "Hurt," which was produced by Clyde Otis (who worked with Brook Benton & Dinah Washington). But she recorded duets with Willie Nelson (who also produced her), opened live for Frank Sinatra, & she was Grammy-nominated. Quincy Jones produced her successful LP "The Amazing Timi Yuro." She was a personal friend of Elvis Presley who went to see her live several times. They were so close, that when Elvis decided to sing "Hurt," in one of his final concerts, he asked her for permission. Every album she ever released had powerful songs. Diva? She was one of the first. You both do an excellent assessment. kzread.info/dash/bejne/gqempdOTnM3TodY.html

"Hurt" is a 1954 song by Jimmie Crane and Al Jacobs. "Hurt" was originally performed by Roy Hamilton, whose version peaked at number eight on the R&B Best Seller chart and spent a total of seven weeks on the chart.[1] A version by Ricky Denell also received considerable radio airplay in 1954 on pop radio stations. The song is considered to be the signature hit of Timi Yuro, whose version went to number four on the Billboard pop chart in 1961. Juice Newton's 1985 version scored number one on Billboard's Country chart. (Wikipedia)
