OMG I caught some HUGE yabbies

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Finally, some very big yabbies have made their way into my yabby nets. While these are not record breaking yabbies, they are still quite big, and to get a few of them is absolutely amazing.
Cherax is the genus of crustacean that has a smooth shell, such as a yabby, hance the scientific name Cherax Destructor. Speaking of destructor, imagine what would happen if I stuck my little finger into the claws of one of these very big yabbies. CHOMP!
Finding these big yabbies has been a journey for me this season. It has been an absolute pleasure, and enjoyable journey, but a journey none the less.
I have found waterways with no yabbies, waterways with no water, lakes with plenty of small yabbies etc... but is has taken me quite a while to hit the yabbying jackpot.
I hope you enjoy this video of me catching some big yabbies on a private property dam today because believe me, I sure enjoyed making it!
For anybody wondering, the yabby is an Australian freshwater crustacean, very similar to the mudbud, crawfish, crawdad and crayfish found in America. There are so many different species and I get confused. I know a lot of American people comment on my videos making reference to crawfish, or crawdads so I think they must be pretty closely related.

@@robbiefishing jeeze Mate...you make it look easy. I'm going hunting for yabbies in March down Jindabyne way. ..everyone says ...look out for snakes. What do you recommend as foot wear...and do you put any yabbies into clean water for them to purge or...a good mud scrub and then the pot. How do you recommend to cook them. I'd hate to kill and then not maximize they're great taste...not having tasted one as yet. Also...where do you get the tops you wear. I'm a big lad too...but mostly a short sleeved bloke. My mate has several dams in cattle country. Theyve been dug out and are slowly refilling. Should these dams be restocked with yabbies assuming they can survive in there. Fish are in there...were there...they tainted the ducks I shot there. Smelled of fish as I took the breasts. Yellow fat was just like fish taint. Yuk. Ducks are safe for now. You've got a good screen presence. Big Men Rock

As for cooking, I have a video called "How to cook yabbies" If you look for that you will find the most common way to cook them. Also, I have a video coming our later this week where I catch and cook yabbies in a way that I have never cooked them before. I hope this all helps mate.

In saying that, there are a lot of variables from river to river. Perhaps a larger dirtier and warmer river in a different area may have larger yabbies?

I just bought 2 very high-end crawfish traps and looking forward to the weather being warm enough to start fishing them. They were about $80 us each so hopefully they pan out nice. I live in Brisbane and would love to go Yabbing with hubby and kids do we need a permit to catch them and how much can we catch per a person if there is a number restriction. Looks like a lot of fun

I'm really sorry but I'm not sure what the rules are up there. It might be worth googling the Queensland Fishing Rules. They are a huge amount of fun, and kids absolutely love catching yabbies.

Those were absolutely huge mate, well done! The last time I had a feed of yabbies I reckon I was still a teenager hahaha. A genuine question, do you find the darkness of the yabbies effects the taste of them at all, or are they all pretty much the same?

Hiu Luke, if you live in Victoria you can exchange them over for your old opera house nets at participating tackle stores. I know Adventure Camping and Fishing in Wangaratta have them if they are not all gone.

Huge yabbies, you should try to make your own Murray cod lure and see if you can get anything, i was wondering and thought it would be interesting

Bloody ripper mate! Some monsters! You deserve it!. Good to see you got some goodens for your uncle. Do you experiment with bait? Have you noticed any bait works better than the other? I was told by an older aboriginal friend of mine years ago, the best bait is road kill birds. They put out a particular scent. Give it a try, DO AN EXPERIMENT and set 2 nets next each other with a different bait. CHEERS bud. 👍🇦🇺

Hey mate thanks heaps for the great tip. Spinds like a great idea. I have found ymrabbit to be a very good bait over the years, and also love lambs fry. As a kid we use to use sheeps heads as bait. Worked a treat!
