The drummer didn't just sing it, he wrote it. About his little sister. This is truly an 80's song. Wouldn't fit any other decade.

Totally an 80s song. Too cheesy to be 70s. Too hair-band power ballad-y for the 90s or beyond. The 1980s is a nice little hermetically sealed container for this type of song.

Night Ranger's drummer, Kelly Keagy, wrote this song about his sister Kristy (this is the correct spelling, he tells us), who is 10 years younger than him and was growing up fast. "It's the big brother looking after his little sister when she's growing up - a simple, almost naïve kind of lyric," he said in a Songfacts interview. "I wanted her to be able to see what I was talking about, that I was protecting her."

I've always interpreted "motoring" as going places. It's about as deep a coming of age chat any older brother wants to have with his young sister. Boys don't wanna play no more with you=casual, not going all the way. You're the only one to say ok=no means no. Don't give it up before your time is due=live & experience stuff before settling down. MTV didn't let up on playing this one and it is awesome!

I love that 80's rock was able to allow the musicians as much expression as the vocals. You don't get real instruments today and that makes music all about the singer not the coming together of people to create an experience. This song is great at balancing all parts shows the talent they have and gives each a time to shine and support each other.

Yes indeed - one of the very best power ballads. MY personal favorites are Heaven by Warrant, The Search is Over by Survivor, Amanda by Boston, Always and I'll Bee There for You by Bon Jovi, I'll Be Over You by Toto, Hysteria by Def Leppard, The Power of Love by Frankie Goes to Hollywood, Oh Sherrie and Foolish Heart by Steve Perry. This is only a small list - I'll be back to add more. Love you guys!

For a power ballad you need to listen to Heaven by Warrant and Something to Believe In by Poison. Damn Yankees was a great collaboration of Tommy Shaw (Styx), Jack Blades (Night Ranger) and Ted Nugent. They opened for Bad Company when I saw them but put on a fantastic show. A double headliner! Try High Enough by them. Looking forward to seeing Styx, REO Speedwagon and Loverboy in July.

I know this has nothing to do with the video, but it has everything to do with what you both project to your viewing family. What I love about you two is the mutual respect and unconditional love for one another. It shows so elegantly and effortlessly that I know this is how your marriage is. No marriage is perfect, but I can see you being married 50+ years. You both are a huge inspiration to others while living in a throw away world. Your marriage reminds me of mine and my late wife Andria. We were 6 months away from 21 years of marriage before she unexpectedly passed away from a brain aneurism. We always said, “Never go to bed angry with one another because you don’t know if you will wake up in the morning. If it takes all night to settle the argument, disagreement, or issue, all you’ve lost is a few hours of sleep, instead of losing each other.” We lost a few hours of sleep here and there, but we never lost each other.

Sorry for your loss, Bill. I lost my first wife to cancer in 2006, so I know the pain you feel. You're 1000000% right in your advice: "Never go to bed angry". My second wife and I live by that rule. Also, never "part" without the words "I love you" being the last thing said. Whether it's her leaving for work, one of us going to the store, whatever. The last words we hear from one another is an expression of love. This came into sharp relief one morning a few years ago, as she left for work, like she had many other mornings. During her morning commute, she was rear-ended by a car that didn't slow down (it was speeding), and shoved her into the stopped box truck in front of her. The dirty bastard left the scene, but fortunately the car protected her and she walked away with only minor injuries. The car was totaled, but it saved her life. Fortunately, we had a dash cam in the car, which proved the accident wasn't her fault. Never did find the person who hit her, though. The dash cam was battery powered, so it continued to record after the car was totaled. The footage itself is kinda chilling, but having a record of her phone call to me telling me she had been in an accident is something I can always remind myself of that anything can happen at any given moment. I will never not have a dash cam in my vehicle, especially the way people are these days. Whenever she does something that annoys me, I go back and re-watch/listen to that footage just to remind myself that I really DO love her, and just how close I came to losing her that morning. It's more about realizing that "petty" things should never come between you and the person you love more than anything.

The drummer noticed how much his baby sister had grown when he came back from tour so he wrote this song for her. It's basically saying how she went from young girl still playing with the boys to young woman looking for the boys. Motoring was an 80's slang term for moving on or gotta go and get on with whatever you were doing. So he is basically saying that she is moving on with life in a positive way

I was so hoping you guys would give Night Ranger a try. I knew you would love this song. Kelly Keagy is the one singing this song and you were correct, he’s also the drummer. He’s great and sings most of Night Ranger’s power ballads. Jack Blades is the bassist and sings most of the rockers that they play. Brad Gillis is the guitarist on this song ( fun fact, he played with Ozzy Osbourne for a tour). If you want to see why everyone loves this group, check out “Don’t Tell Me You Love Me” and watch him duel with Night Ranger’s other fantastic guitarist, Jeff Watson. Other Night Ranger songs: “When You Close Your Eyes”, “Sing Me Away”, “Sentimental Street”, “The Secret of My Success”, “Four In The Morning” and so many more.

They grown up old and the Queen stayed the same. Ha ha ha. They had so many nice hits like: When you close your eyes, The secret of my sucess, Sing me away, Sentimental Streets, You can still rock in America, Restless kind, Goodbye which it has a nice intro guitar arpeggios. The drummer sing this song but also the bass man sing very well like in When you close your eyes.

Originally released in 1983 from the Night Ranger album Midnight Madness. Re-released in 1997 from the soundtrack to the movie Boogie Nights. Night Ranger and I go way back! Both of us are born and bred in San Francisco! 🌉 Night Ranger is an all-star band. Before NR, keyboard player 🎹 Alan "Fitz" Gerald was in Montrose. The drummer was Denny Carmassi 🥁, like me, born in San Francisco 🇵🇭. He quit, and joined Heart 💗 , a Seattle sister-led band who has another San Francisco native, Nancy Wilson. The lead singer of Montrose was Sammy Hagar. He quit and went solo. Guitarist Brad Gillis, guitarist Jeff Watson + drummer Kelly Keagy were in Alameda All-Stars. Greg Allman was the other guitarist, before the band broke up. When guitarist Randy Rhodes passed away, Brad Gillis quit AAS + played for Ozzy Osborne. BG quit + joined Night Ranger. Bass guitarist Jack Blades was in Rubicon. He quit and joined Night Ranger. I saw all of these bands including Night Ranger! The band has 2 lead vocalists: JB and KK, like Glenn Frey and Don Henley. True story. JB and KK tried to hang with Prince, but he was just too busy and was not in the mood. But the famous friends of the 2 had a good time with Prince! 😃 Good song! 😃 This song is the follow up to Sister Christian. From their bestselling album Midnight Madness. Suggested next video Four in the Morning 🌄 . RIP Ronnie Montrose, last year. 🌉
