Head chef here. I ask anybody who applies for a job in my kitchen to make a plain omelette. It's the perfect technique test, and I can tell you more than half of professional cooks cannot make a classic french omelette. I've made at least 5,000 in my life, and there's still room for improvement.
@DarkJenko

@@ef4947 Being French What do you call French omelette ? Talking with my friends and people, there is a lot of variety like between oils and different butter, or even the cooking as some people do not like moisture and others like it golden
@vasileiosgkountas468
3 жыл бұрын
@@DarkJenko French omelette is all about being just cooked on the outside and moist but not runny in the inside and thats why its so much more difficult to make it than american style omelette. In my opinion you can use a tad of oil, just a bit so that you dont risk butter getting burnt but if you know how to make it at the right temperature, butter, egg and ofc seasoning is all you need. Personally i have made french omelette with cheese on top which is more difficult because you have to be extra careful so that the egg does not get color on the outside and remain moist in the inside, because when you add cheese you have to leave it for a while at low temperature just to melt a little bit, so if you do that in a french omelette its quite risky but i like it and after a while you get the hang of it and after practice you understand how much temperature you really need. To be honest, i saw the technique from a very nice video about making french omelette not just with eggs and no other ingredients, but with cheese and tomato. It was presented by an excellent chef who recently died. Cant remember the name now

Yeah because your too busy watching a video that’s 9 minutes 41 seconds.
Them: *need 4 minutes to cook a perfect omelette* Me: *consumes 2 minutes just to crack the egg well without messing up*
my fellow desis are infuriated over the lack of spices but, damn, every time i go abroad i make it a point to stuff myself with these omelettes. they’re delicious!

No not really. Traditionally french omlettes are well seasoned but not seasoned with a variety of spices.

Canada, When contestant and the judge so polite and humble... i'm not even suprised.
I love these judges. Critical and encouraging enough and always teaching. Non pretentious at all like you know who....
Why they always send Alvin in for the worst dishes knowing damn well he’s the most savage critic

I love Masterchef Canada, the judges are so polite
I think a judge should be in every competition. 1 .To show how highly possible it is to achieve each goal. 2. That it's okay if one messes up . It can only go one of the 2 ways for them.

The way Alvin shouts 'now' and points his fingers is so funny
Love it when you have some guys around here who are complaining that the tasks are menial, like poached eggs, omelette etc. It's almost like they don't listen to any of the chefs go "It's a couple seconds too long to be good enough".
"Please bring your French style omelettes to the front" Me: Wait they had to be Fench style!?
Chef Alvin is the most wholesome judge ever.

this isn't as stressing without Gordon Ramsay in it lol
Its quite hard to cook a French Style Omelette. I watched Jacques Pepin's video on it and its a struggle to consistently get what you want. I either overheat the pan, not getting the custardy texture that I want and it comes out a bit ugly, or I underheat and it takes much longer, but comes out closer to correct. Understanding the cookware you work with is a big part of it. I have thick pans so they hold onto a lot of heat, so I need to account for that. But man, when you do it right, they're just amazing. I'd take a good French Style Omlette thats just eggs and butter over a traditional country style ham and cheese omelette.

I usually make omelets by starting at a lower temperature and then adding the eggs. After That i crank up the heat to high and stir. Once the pan gets hot enough i turn it medium-lowish. Perfect Omelets (almost)every time.

Master Chef: This is the best French Omlette BomBay Street Food Vendor: Here, Hold My Egg
I always find these omelette or scrambled egg challenges a bit silly because everyone has their own idea of what's a perfect omelette or scrambled egg and has their own tiny variations in technique (eg I like mine slightly runny, some of these are way overcooked for me. And I don't care if there's some egg white showing)!
