Introduced in 2020, the Cal. 321 “Ed White” Speedmaster brought the iconic movement of the early Speedmasters back to a steel watch, the movement having been relaunched in a platinum Speedy several months earlier. While one wins no points for guessing that this would be a tremendously popular watch, this watch is not one to be underestimated.
Coming in at 39.8mm, this CK2998-inspired Speedmaster draws inspiration from the very first Speedy worn into space. Worn on the wrist of astronaut Ed White, who would go on to tragically die in the Apollo I launchpad fire, the Speedmaster faced the immense test that is a spacewalk for the first time, proving a stalwart companion and setting the foundation for the Speedmaster’s flight qualification and continued use as an EVA watch for NASA.

The Calatrava weekly calendar, be still my heart. The calibre in that Speedmaster is cool. But it ain’t $23k cool.
Excellent episode, first time in a while that I loved every watch on display.
That HM&C’s dial looks similar to the pale jade paint in the living room of my beach condominium. I blended the paint myself to create a custom color.

We have strange fixations. Service items are verboten on collectors Rolex watches, but on the Moser, it is accepted without comment that they will replace the balance on service. Probably the most important part of the watch. I guess It's to do with cosmetics and dials at Rolex. But even like for like replacement is frowned upon there and elsewhere.

It's explained by the fact that only ten of the Mosers exist, as opposed to ten million Rolexes.

It's only the cosmetic parts that shouldn't (mustn't!) be replaced. If you replace the original dial on a vintage Rolex or a Speedmaster, you have drastically reduced the monetary value as well as the collector- and historical value. A mint original vintage bezel on a Speedmaster (a model I know better than I know Rolex) could cost $4000, similarly on a sought after vintage Rolex, I guess. The dial is even more expensive. Service parts for the movement is normal. Gaskets should be replaced. Often it's a good idea to change the tubes where the crown and pushers go through. After a long time, the main spring could loose some of it's ability to power the movement. Maybe some of the wheels are worn out and need replacements. Obviously, it has to be genuine parts and not parts from a 3rd party. In short: Don't replace cosmetic parts. Replacement of movement parts is ok. If you ignore this, you could easily cut the watch's value in half (or more!).

@@amundbjerve You are absolutely right about this. I guess the interesting thing is that these are choices, and perhaps slightly arbitrary ones at times. We have decided that as long as something looks original, then it is original. I'm not being argumentative, I put as high value on an unrefinished dial as anyone. It goes to the heart of what constitutes value, and as in everything else in life, these rules are constructs of the market. So be it...
