Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum about to host Olympics #3 in 2028. What an iconic stadium! Fight On!

I used Montreal's stadium to swim regularly and often went there for sport activities with my school. They just renovated a bunch of stuff including the biodome right next to it. I love how they managed to convert it into a place for the public. They even added a movie theater, a planetarium, a botanical garden and insectarium, and a metro (subway) all within walking distance. They also used it to give out COVID vaccines!

Yeah, the Olympic pool is next to the stadium, but it's a different building. The botanical garden and insectarium are next to Parc de Maisonneuve which is near the Olympic stadium but not located in the same block. Cheers.

The stadiums of Berlin, Rome, Moscow and Rio, also were used to host the finals of FIFA World Cup. In 2024 Stade de France in París will host the olympic games, and hosted the final's FIFA World Cup in 1998.

In Rio2016 the olympic stadium was not the maracanã it was the nilton santos stadium, maracanã was the opening and closing stadium of the olympics

The last stadium, all the cars are the exact same from Then/Now. Amazing!

These of Munich were the first high-tech buildings in the history of the olympic games. Years ahead of its time. The world-famous tent roof still looks so futuristic today. Absolutely unique!

curiosity: Although the Maracana was the official stadium for the 2016 Olympics, it was not the stadium used for the athletics competitions, it was the first time that it happened since the beginning of modern Olympics. Actually, there isn't even an athletics track in Maracana, so all the athletic events happened at Nilton Santos Olympic Stadium.

The Estadio Olímpico Universitario (Mexico) cannot be modified. It is considered a world heritage site by UNESCO.

Amazing that of all the stadiums only the White City stadium has gone. I remember flying over it while it was being demolished in summer 1985 on my way into Heathrow, the old track still visible from the air. Coincidently I was flying in from Helsinki where just the previous day I visited the Olympic stadium from 1952.

In Rio2016 the olympic stadium was not the maracanã it was the nilton santos stadium, maracanã was the opening and closing stadium of the olympics

The Olympic Stadium in Rio 2016 was not the Maracana, it was the Nilton Santos Olympic Stadium. In Maracana it was only the Opening and Closing because of its great capacity

DESTROYED STADIUMS: YEARS London's White City Stadium - 1985 London's Wembley Stadium - 2002-2003, rebuild in 2007 in the same place Tokyo's National Stadium - 2015, rebuilt in 2019 in the same place Atlanta's Centennial Olympic Stadium - 1996, renovated twice. In 1997 as Turner Field, in 2017 as Georgia State Stadium Helsinki Olympic Stadium is not demolished, but was closed in 2016 for renovation. A reopening is scheduled for August 2020.

Melbourne Cricket Ground was completely demolished over time, starting from 1967 until to 2005. Also the 56 photo is a view from the north, and the now photo is from the south...

Maracanã continued the same because in 2014 the stadium was used in the world cup, so it was already renovated, but it's not hard to find videos of Maracanã in 2008 or 2009 before the renovation.

Funy how the Greek olympic stadium has the same cars parked on the same place in both pictures

@@subraxas Nothing can beat the homecoming of the Olympics. You had the marathon taking place on the exact same route as the ancient marathon, other sports in the Olympic stadium where the first modern Olympics took place in 1896 and other sports in ancient Olympia. Furthermore the vast majority of the venues were state of the art and permanent which was not cost-effective but added to the status of the Games.

@@alexthegreek11 As an Atlanta citizen, the plan was always to turn it into a baseball stadium after the Olympics were over. The horseshoe end of the stadium was only temporary seating.

After this video was made, Georgia State sold the naming rights of the stadium to a local credit union, hence it's now Center Parc Stadium.

It's amazing how very few of the old ones have actually changed all that much. The olympic stadium in Munich with that cobweb like roof is just beautiful. I visited when my team Milan beat Bayern Munich in the 2003 champions league. Lovely stadium.

I am assuming they mean the location of the opening and closing ceremonies. If you look at their similar video showing the all the Olympic stadiums from 1896 to 2028 you'll see they also show the LA Colosseum for 2028. The athletics in that year will be at the new American Football stadium in the east of the city.

The Then and Now shots of the Mexico City Estadio Olimpico Universitario at 3:59 are from opposite points of view. They have not relocated the press box and the scoreboard locations.

For Athens 2004 and Rio 2016. I love tat it’s EXACTLY the same photo for then an now…

It's crazy how the oldest stadium still look in very good condition and the ones from 2010 and up are failing apart. Odd!

The old Athens one in this video was not the one they used in 2004 olympics. This one from 1900 was falling apart and in disrepair when I was visiting the city back in the 1990s. Very unique with its tight turns and l-o-n-g straights. They didn't do a complete remodel for Athens 2004, just enough to make it usable and changed the track surface from dirt to rubber. AFAIK the only events held there were the finish of both the women's and men's marathons. Not sure what its used for these days, if its even used for anything.

Are there no olympic stadia for winter games?

Athens 2004 and Rio Stadium are both inaccurate, they both use the same photos from those past thing and the current photo, so some of them are inaccurate. Also, Maracana is not the host of the 2016 Olympics, it was Nilton Stadium. Also, i really like some of these stadium used for Olympics being used for other sports, such as Londom Stadium (an 2012 London Stadium host) used for West Ham United stadium! Also, everything from 20th century stadium olympics looked amazing and defidnetly improved over the years upon going through renovation! 😁

Stunning in a world where stadiums now have a service live of 25 years or less, all of these bar the original white city in London survive. Certainly move a foot to reconfigure the Sydney stadium into more of a steep grandstand, football pitch stadium but it appears shelved again.

except all those old stadiums have been remodeled several times over, they are not in their original form. They had a service life of 25 years or less even back then. If the newer stadiums are maintained and get regular modernizations like the old stadiums they can last just as long.

In fact, The Real Olympic Stadium for Rio 2016 was The Engenhão. Maracanã was The main stadium, but it wasn't The olympics stadium.

It would be good to also label what cities these stadiums are in.

In Melbourne's case is was a Cricket and Aussie Rules Football ground that was converted to a Track and Field stadium then converted back once the Olympics finished.

A temporary track will be built on a platform in the LA Coliseum in 2028. This was done for the 2014 Commonwealth Games at Glasgow's Hampden Park. Moscow's Luzhniki Stadium was converted to a soccer-specific stadium for the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

Athenas 2004 pictures are wrong. it is exactly the same image. It shows in the cars

the Athens stadium is the same picture, right down to the cars in the parking lot.....

The Maracanã pics are both the same, but the stadium is much older than that.

Typically only the British turned one of their stadiums into a shopping centre.
