| Jake Dalton |
A two-time Olympic gymnast, Jake competed in the 2012 and 2016 Summer Games as a member of the U.S. national team. An All-American when he attended the University of Oklahoma, Jake won four individual NCAA championships, including the floor and vault titles in 2011. He was the all-around gold medalist of the Winter Cup Challenge in 2011, and earned a silver medal on floor exercise at the 2013 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships.
Known for his powerful upper body and energetic routines, Jake was an innovator in the sport. A new element on the parallel bars was named after him in the Men's Gymnastics Code of Points in 2016.
Jake began training in gymnastics when he was only five years old. Now retired from competition, he helps manage the gymnastics club where he trained when he was growing up. An all-around athlete, he now dedicates himself to mentoring others, especially younger gymnasts. “I love helping others achieve their goals, whether it is in gymnastics or fitness,” he says. “I also help out with teaching gymnastics-specific skills at CrossFit camps.”
In his spare time, Jake likes to spend time with his family, going camping and hiking. But though he’s retired from competition, he is still committed to training and testing himself physically. “I always look forward to a good workout and finding new ways to challenge myself,” he says.

    It's fascinating how many muscles are missed with just weight-training. That front body pull is a perfect example. It doesn't matter how many rows, lat pulldowns, db raises etc. you do, you still won't get your feet off the floor. I'm 78 and trying to figure out just what muscles are incorporated. I think one of the first things I've got to do is develop a brain-muscle connection. Seems like all the stress is on the posterior deltoids, triceps and lats but from different angles than what a weightlifter is used to. I'm trying to turn back 65 years when I did gymnastics in high school. Making progress but slowly.

    I used to powerlift religiously, for the sport I've chosen (mma) it is useful, but the strongest athletes are gymnasts by far. I mix power lifts, body weight stuff and a shit ton of cardio. The Weights are easy, the cardio is what kills me.

    Are lower reps better, or higher reps?

  • @rippincd

    @rippincd

    5 жыл бұрын

    Joe Cruz lower reps are typically better for building strength, but this depends on the weight or difficulty of the exercise that you are performing. Higher reps help when building endurance, or trying to increase the number of repetitions you can complete. Keep in mind that you always want to prioritize form independent of high or low rep range. Also, like Jakes workout, you want a mixture of both high and low reps to balance your workout and build both larger and stronger muscles fibers.
