The part at 35'33'' reminds me on some kind of an acoustic alarm signal! Interesting, to see Olivier Messiaen improvise! Thank you for this clip!

Thank you. At that moment, I believe he is utilising registration identical to that which he specifies in his 1929 posthumously-published Offrande au Saint Sacrement (III. Récit expressif: Voix céleste 8', Gambe 8', Flûte traversière 8', Bourdon 8', Voix humaine 8' [+ Trémolo]; I. Grand-Orgue: Bourdon 8' (Positif not played) with the Pedal being coupled to the latter); which is inspired by Tournemire yet characteristically Messiaenic. It is fascinating to observe this, as it seems that he has an interest (while a rare one; though here sort of improvisational like the former work perhaps is) in this combination. Furthermore; the Récit receives the same treatment on the final chord of the fifth movement of Les corps glorieux.

What a treat! Thank you SO much for sharing this. As a former pupil of his successor there, 15 years after this recording, I find this especially moving. Thank you 🙏🏻

@@chronochromie772 Alas not to chat to. Merely an awestruck bow, standing in the 'wings' after a Westminster Cathedral performance of his La Transfiguration. Messiaen was in town, supervising rehearsals elsewhere (for St François?) but turned up at the end for the curtain call, walking down the whole length of the nave during rapturous applause. Together with many other excited 'fanbois', I ran eastwards down the south aisle, only to find myself suddenly face-to-face with a shy and bewildered-looking Messiaen as he came off between bows. I was lost for words! 🙄🤣

Messiaen loved Japan (a lot)... and consequentially they loved him in return! One idea, by the way - perhaps a Cubase simulation of 'Un Sourire'. It's a late work of Messiaen, which was composed in 1989. Though if not, perhaps Oiseaux exotiques... which is one of his finest pieces.
