In my opinion, Giroud deserved the award because it was more than just a scorpion kick. He laid the ball off with a flick and ran down the entire field as fast as he could to catch up with the play. He then received a cross behind him and, based solely on reaction and instinct, he rose his foot up behind him to connect with the ball. It sailed in a perfect arc to connect with the crossbar and bounce into the goal. Masuluke's goal was incredible, especially for a goalkeeper, but I believe Giroud did so much more to earn his goal.

ItzSamcity I definitely agree. The goal was definitely deserving of the award for its skill and the situation it was scored in. I personally am more focused on the skill behind the goals rather than the circumstances and I believe Giroud had more skill in his goal. However, Masuluke's goal is indeed an unforgettable goal. If Masuluke would have won the award, I would've been completely supportive of it.

I disagree. Its an identical goal to the one scored by Henrich Mkhitharyan on Boxing day. Its not unique. I was rooting for Oscarine. We will never see another goalkeeper score a goal like that anytime soon.

The king of spectacular finishes. He could have four or five of his Arsenal goals nominated for this award.

Such a humble and down to earth guy.

We saw many volley kick and bicycle kick winners from the past (Zlatan 2013 great example) and we will see many more in the future.. but a scorpion kick is quite rare! congrats Giroud!

Great goal, memorable. And a decent humble man with it.

You can see that he is not used to speak in front of such a big audience as he is very very nervous but that's normal, who wouldn't be nervous in that situation

What did he win this for?? His scorpion kick?? Bicycle kick the other week?? He deserves a few of these..

His goal should not be underated has he actually put in alot of hard work and intelligence. Not mostly known for his pace, He ran almost the full length of the pitch, got a poor pass and still made something it. I strongly believe he fully deserved the plaudits. All the goals were superb but as the natural order of things, a winner must emerge.
