I love how Olivia quietly allowed the audience to applaud her for so long. She knew her own worth. And I can only imagine how she must’ve felt, to hear that music and feel the love from all those people, knowing that she was the last survivor of the stars of ‘Gone with the Wind’.

Yes, so often we forget about the elderly pioneers, but all of these older folks are still so beautiful. I think we have sadly lost most of them since this broadcast. Luise Rainer was a treat - she left Hollywood voluntarily, despite 2 Oscars, great talent & beauty. I loved seeing Claude Jarman, Jr - one of the greatest performances by a child.

Juliaflo it probably didn't happen because it would reveal a still sore wound that doesn't ever heal properly: The discrepancy in numbers of non white actors who both, get into roles and win awards. Back in 2003 there was already a lot of shame in the racial misrepresentation landmarked by Hollywood, with the lack of Asians, Hispanics, African-Americans working. Only, back then this problem had a tight lid on and didn't spill into mainstream media like now. I bet a Franklin some of the organizers wanted this tribute at the 2018 Os but they must have gathered the _list if characters_ and realized "ooops, not enough diversity to make this happen with today's internet social networking hoopla to swiftly point it out, sorry", and quickly scratched that idea... #InsiderDamageControl, I say...😬

You would think that the producers of the Oscar broadcasts are planning to do this again for the 100th-anniversary broadcast. With 10 years of lead time, they will probably be letting it known throughout the acting community that anyone who has won an Oscar should keep the last weekend of February, 2028, open for (hopefully) a whole weekend of events.

Getting sentimental about this, in my case, has to do somehow with that emotional welling up about the passage of time, and all things being transient, especially the days of our youth. I think the poet, Alfred, Lord Tennyson, gets close to it in his poem "Tears, Idle Tears." For that reason, it is heart-warming to see icons from the past STILL around, be they film actors and actresses , singers or others, who can comfort us by still being there.

What are the odds that the 4 principal actors in GWTW (Gable, Leigh, de Havilland (duh) and Leslie Howard), her character is the only one to die in the movie. Now of the four actors....she's the only one still alive. Thank God she's still with us! One of the last great legendary movie actors. :)

Her appearance in the film was not only the appearance of an excellent actress but also an amazing beautiful girl when she was 19 years old she was young and beautiful actually hypnotized me You can it was possible to fall in love with her without memory at first sight. This film, due to her amazing beauty, not only spiritual, but also beauty, was deep in the mine mind. As soon as the news of her death appeared, I immediately remembered her actor creation in this film. I have been to the Oscars only once and this was the year. I couldn't believe my luck that all these iconic Oscar winning stars, old and new, were there in front of me, all the way back to Luise Rainer and Mickey Rooney in the 30s. It was pure Old Hollywood magic. Since then, of course, quite a number have passed away but their work lives on - at least with me it does. Mind you, I was with a group of 25 year olds last week who had never heard of Barbra Streisand - and she is still working, appearing and performing!

July 26-2020 not only claimed Corona victims, Ennio Morricone, Kobe etc. But now, it also took the life of one of the last surviving Hollywood legends! RIP Olivia I literally just rewatched Gone with the Wind, due to HBO Max's temporary removal, just a few weeks ago! I loved the movie, and my mom & family would always spend at least once a year rewatching the movie. And not lying, I literally dreamt last night about Gone with the wind, and to my surprise, this happened. It was a bit Ironic that she died in the movie, but was one of the last surviving Cast members til today. Rest in Peace de Havilland. Gone with the Wind will always be one of my most favorite movies, like One Flew over the cuckoo's nest, Lawrence of Arabia, bridge over the River Kwai, LOTR, Chinatown, etc. I may be 24 years old, but I really love classic and old films!

If I were on the Academy board of directors, I would be notifying each Oscar winner from now on that another such gathering would take place during the Centennial celebration in 2028, which is just 12 years away. With that much lead time, just imagine what kind of a gathering they could have!

What an icon! Not only did De Havilland win two Oscars in the Best Actress and Supporting Actress categories, she co-starred with Gable and Vivien Leigh in Gone With The Wind; she co-starred with Errol Flynn in his best films: The Adventures Of Robin Hood, Captain Blood and They Died With Their Boots On; she co-starred with Clift and Richardson in Wyler's The Heiress and in The Snake Pit and in Light In The Piazza. She is now 98 years old and lives in Paris.

Now she is 104 and going strong. Gone With the Wind, I remember when it came to my home town for a showing. This well after 1939 but 1966 out on my first date with a drivers license. I doubt there will ever be a view as it is on the big screen. No large screen or surround sound system will beat that night. The theater was packed for close to 3 weeks every night. Her appearance in North & South was huge.
