rowan didn't put a gun to her head and make her do it, she doesn't love the man period, she is in love with fitz. Jake is the one who is jealous of Fitz not the other way around. Why because he knows Olivia is in love with Fitz. All he does is rub it in Fitz face whenever he scores with Olivia. Well guess what, Olivia and Fitz were in love before they even had sex, that's probably why Fitz always knew she would choose him. Its all about chemistry, and Jake and Olivia never had that.

Once he said "why are you doing this" I just lost it, I mean Olivia's words hurt me and I ain't Jake. I honestly think Olivia will end up alone because she's hurt two men already, like come on. Jake will figure out that Liv's dad was the one who did this. The worst thing is, is that Olivia was so ready to be happy like really happy. Get married, have kids kind of happy. Fitz is not her. Jake was available and this time I think she wanted to really let her heart go out to him, but she wanted to save his life. Het father had threaten to kill Jake if she ever went anywhere near him. She did it out of a love she has never verbalized to Jake. Love is not always spoken. It is the care. She could've easily found a way to be with him despite rowan's threat. I don't feel bad for Jake at all, why would you want a woman who Is clearly in love with someone else. When Olivia hooked up with Fitz, she already knew his married was dead, and that he didn't love his wife. This is the total opposite, Jake knew Olivia is in love with Fitz, but he tried so hard to make her forget about Fitz and failed.

As painful as this was to watch, this scene is so beautiful.... "The first time ever I saw your face.." The sound of the beach waves along with the song... It all contradicted so beautifully with her words; the truth of her heart. They love one another so much. This was a beautiful sacrifice that I believe hurt Liv more in delivering it than Jake hearing it. My babies...

+Now Future I'm hoping the real reason Jake went back to Rowan's house to begin with, was that he knew Rowan would never have let the fact go that Olivia, his own flesh and blood, chose to live her own live and 'be mediocre'. That is why he trained Jake and all the other male soldiers as his 'sons' (maybe in his mind Rowan thought women in general are too weak, therefore he can train men better. THAT would make sense cos he could've just gotten a 'replacement daughter' or something). So I believe its either Jake went back, sacrificing himself in order for Rowan to let Olivia live her life or he knows by associating himself with Rowan, Liv will finally understand what Tom, Huck and Jake himself said about her father not actually having a daughter, but someone he can control, like a soldier. THAT would also make more sense because Jake despises Rowan.

Here is something I posted elsewhere, Nithe: "I've come to believe that the ONLY reason Jake is united with Rowan is because he has sacrificed himself by returning to the enslaved life as a "son" in order to free Olivia. I'm believing that he made a commitment to Rowan in being all that Rowan wants him to be, do all that he wants him to do, if he allows Olivia her freedom. Jake set his self to be hurt. He knew Olivia will always love Fitz in a different way than she love him. she does love Jake in a way of keeping him safe. she just not in love with him.

No at this moment, Olivia is in love with Fitz not Jake. Olivia could've dropped Jake without ever mentioning Fitz. Rowan can't tell Olivia who she can love, and she has never ever said those three words to Jake- I love you. Now, if Olivia was truly in love with Jake, she would've ignored her father. Rowan can't decide who his daughter may love, and its not Jake, its Fitz

There's no weapon greater than the truth, and Olivia is a master at weaponizing the truth. That's why her speeches always work, always cut so accurately and deeply because every word is always true. Because lets face it- the moment she found out Jake was sent by her father and her ex was the moment he stopped being a viable candidate for her, because he became a weak errand boy and a cheap knock off.

Right... How is it possible that she said exactly what I was thinking the whole series? Those are words you just don't say to someone you care about whether it's true or false. So, of course she felt like a horrible person doing it. But it's the truth. Jake wasn't convinced until she acknowledged the elephant in the room. She lied at first and he knew it. Then, she tore him up with the truth to get him to shut up.

Not a Jake fan but damn Shonda toyed with Olakers the entire episode. Dropping crumbs to make it seem Olake had a chance at happiness and then tore it all to pieces. It's just the same pandering to keep Olivia going from man to man. We all knew she was going to kill the Olake fantasy like she did Olitz. The words Liv said were harsh. She didn't mean it and played on every insecurity Jake had to get him to accept. He went ahead and married Vanessa anyway so really the choice was his. Ironic now that Jake is in a marriage to a woman he doesn't love while Fitz is the single man enjoying being free of Olivia. Thank your lucky stars Fitz and keep Olivia out of your life.

True Fitz still loves her but I like that he is moving on and not letting Olivia be his whole world. His happiness should not revolve around her especially when he did everything he could to love her openly the way she deserved. I like the new episode pics showing him smiling and doing okay. Olivia and Mellie have too much drama going on which can be a complete turn off for most men. As long as Fitz is happy, I'm good.

I'm both an Olitz and Olake shipper. I watch 'Scandal' several times a year. When I want a happy ending for Olitz, I watch the series through to the very end. Whenever I want a happy ending for Olake, I pretend that the first few minutes of Season 4, Episode 1-where they are both so happy on the island-was the series finale. As someone who has watched the series what feels like a million times, I know that Olivia loved Jake as well. She loved both Fitz and Jake. Her love for the President was overwhelming, but that doesn't mean she never loved Jake.

Being involved with a married man still makes a brilliant, amazing and beautiful woman an adulteress.

She cant keep saving his ass from her father all the time he has to do it himself. Fitz no longer needs her like that and thats why she was so proud of what he was going to do while talking to Abby but the big but! It annoys the crap out of her that Fitz no longer needs her. LaToya Newell Olivia can't really save jake from her father bcause she can't save herself from him neither. I don't want her to "fall out of love" with Fitzgerald Grant, DEFINITELY not. But we all know for sure that it's gonna be Olitz at the end of the show. But we might get bored if we have 3 more seasons of "I love you but...", So maybe if we could have a bit of olake, it would be pleasant for Jake's character and his fans, and it would make the Olitz reunion more significant (according to me)

I am sure that he did all his best to avoid crying. I ain't even worried because Jake said in last weeks episode he's chasing the sun. So, him and Liv are probably going to be together for a bit before the Olitz saga begins again. I really do not know who she is going to end up with at this point, and i'm not trying to figure it out at all. Olivia just needs to find out what she wants. Who she wants, and what she wants to be. Once she determines this, then she can determine who she wants as her man. She can't be Olivia Pope while with Fitz. Hence why they broke up last season. She was watered down to first lady duties, which just aren't her thing.With Fitz, it will always be like that. Truly being with him means she can't be Olivia Pope. She doesn't want to make jam in a house in Vermont. Olivia wants to be a "fixer". That is why I always felt as if Jake was a better choice. Not only is she able to be Olivia Pope, but he knows how to get her to stop and take a breather. She's a different person around him and I think she's realizing that. With Fitz, she's always running something or making some sort of decision. With Jake things are more relaxed. They escape their problems together, and find comfort in each other. They lean on each other. Jake matches her fire. She just runs Fitz's show, which I can't stand. Stand up to her for once gosh damn it. It was never like that with Jake, and it never will be, hence why I feel they are the better couple.

Great post, agree with everything you said. I have also said that Liv can let her hair down and just be HERSELF with Jake. Be normal, carefree, and happy. Not a babysitter like she is with Fitz, along with always being smothered and forced. Then again of course that would happen cause Jake knows Liv the best out of everyone on the show. He's seen the REAL Olivia. Your post also reminds me of another thing I've said many times: That Olake have been set up for the LONGTERM. While Olitz was always the short term, along with crumbs. We are seeing those results with both couples now.

My guess if they do a psychological back-story profile on these characters, is that Jake's mother was a lot like Olivia, and probably worse, and very abusive and most likely abandoned him when he was young and vulnerable which is why he was always so attracted to her and was always willingly her bitch. On the same lines, I always thought Fitz was so drawn to her because everyone always told him "yes" and every woman clung to him either for his money, power, good looks and /or charm and Liv was the first woman who ever really said no to him and didn't need or want him for anything and that fascinated him.

When I first saw this a few months ago (I binge-watched 5 seasons in December to get the real life election off my mind), I thought Liv was just saying these things about always choosing Fitz and Jake being a lesser version to save Jake. But now I think (hope) that it may have been the truth.

It was hard for me to watch also. I actually quit watching altogether. And I was team Olitz in the beginning. But Shonda Rhimes turned Olivia's character into someone very unlikeable. I couldn't believe the direction the show took. It was no longer about a crisis management firm. Instead, it became this dumb, unbelievable spy drama.

I wonder why that is?☕️ Trying to save someone and actually being in love are two different things. That being said SR will always make thing ambiguous to keep us holding on and holding our breathe. This is a sad version of the Olivia Pope that was introduced in the beginning of this series. I really don’t know what Shonda is doing with this character. It baffles me that instead of truly working on a journey for this character she’s been reduced to a sad confused woman who has no idea what she wants or even who she is. Whether it’s Fitz or Jake (or even her) I don’t think she knows. Shonda should have truly had this character on a journey, a tangible journey that we could see because what she’s been showing is plot driven mess.

no it was the truth. Jake was a rebound guy, who is a lesser version of Fitz. Plus he likes to kiss and tell too much, to rub Fitz nose in it. That is very childish and stupid. She doesn't love him, and didn't he choke her, who would love a person like that

Wouldn't surprise me cause it's been shown he is still Rowan's lapdog whenever need be. He killed the Remington pilot like a good dog being left a treat then killed the jurors for Rowan. Otherwise she delivered this speech with so much conviction and hit on the painful truths so hard that I started to have a feeling that maybe she was flaking out like she always does, because she fears commitment.

how is it a sacrifice when Oliva tells Jake that she is in love with Fitz. Telling him she thinks about Fitz when she is with him? Olivia is in love with Fitz, and he should've known by then. He really thought she loved him, well she doesn't and she confirms it herself fast forward to season 7 Olivia to Rowan "you took away the only man I have ever truly loved- Fitz.

Wow, this actually hurt me to watch way more this time then when it aired live. I was too much on cloud 9 with the great material they gave Jake and Liv for me to really care about this. Especially when they laid great groundwork for them as a couple in the long term or as a possible endgame (even though my bet is still that Liv will end up alone when the show ends) Even though you could see the hurt in Jake's face I still bet he knows that Rowan got to her like he always does, so I'm pretty sure he didn't really buy anything Liv said. Especially when the entire time her voice was wobbly and she was always seconds away from crying. You could tell it killed Liv to say all that to him, then her face when she was walking away. She was hurtful as possible to save his life. I thought it was hilarious how she just blew Fitz off completely. Well, they have always shown especially since S4 by Liv's actions that she loves Jake so I wasn't surprised they showed that hugely in this episode, with Jake saying twice she loves him (the other time he said Liv loves him was to Fitz, and it wasn't all just to mess with him. It had truth to it) I could always see her love for him, she wanted to be with Jake and looked so happy. She was also ready to fight for Jake's freedom and life like she's done in the past. They just blew up the open ends with them even more. Vanessa isn't staying on the show so I predict a death before the season ends.

Yes you could here in her voice that she didn't mean what she was saying i mean from the beginning when Rowan Said a wedding or a funeral Liv sunk she was crushed by her father. He took away her happiness and that's what she wanted. I was like damn this man doesn't care about his so called "kids" but himself and control and sick mind and power but why are they letting him get to them this bad that they are willing to sucrifise their love for each other to something else? I just can't wait one day they bring the man down for good this time. I'm fed up with him having nothing to do on this show that to boss people around. Rowan ain't a good father. He was talking about Jake's dad but he forget what he is doing to him is not good either. Like you Said i think that Jake knows that Rowan got to Liv and he could see through her she is good at pretending because Jake knows that she loves him. He will find out and Rowan will go nuts am sure by the end of the season.

Jake knows, he also kept looking at Rowan during the wedding. Rowan won't ever lose or get killed, they put the nail in that when they made him a regular RME. Even when he was recurring I knew nothing would happen to him, they keep repeating the SAME storyline with him over and over, it's boring. Rowan is clearly mentally abusive, he always turns Liv into this scared little girl when he gets like that and it literally makes me sick. That is why I wish they could beat him, it's sick he keeps winning and beating her down. Even though this scene was sad it was beautiful at the same time, the song gave it a lot of weight too.

Best scene ever Even if she wanted to save him she told him the Truth. We have to say thanks to Rowan who knows Liv more than herself. Remember the end of saison 5 the way she treated Jake and definitively refused to be with him and the " mediocrity " of the life he choose. That wasn't a "option" for her. She tried with Fitz and Jake too. And failed because Rowan made her to love the Republik to love power

Hard to believe Jake bought it.

That was unnecessary roughness, Olivia! Can just tell a dude goodbye in a peaceful manor. Sheesh. 🙄
