    Thanks Prepared Guy for the video. I am glad to see that one can get usable light for a long time from the i5T with just an AA battery. My comment that I pasted in somewhere was along the lines of the following: I just took the rechargeable AA out of my i5T as it would no longer go to high. I guess high can suck the power out of an ordinary AA battery rather fast. I looked at the specs for stepdown an apparently it is 300 lumens for 3 minutes and then at 30 lumens for 25 minutes and then 10% power for another 122 minutes. It is the 15 lumens for 20 hours that is impressive, but I have been playing with it, trying out the high. I guess that is why most Olights are lithium ion. So I'll stick the alkaleak back in that it came with and use it up while the rechargeable eneloop is recharging. As far as I know the eneloop was fully charged minus any discharge from sitting in a battery holder, but I did not test it before I put it in the flashlight. I was also comparing it to the i3T. The low setting was brighter but at a distance I did not see too much difference between the two on high. I looked and the candela is similar, 900 for the i3T and 910 for the i5t. The specified throw is the same 60 meters. Prepared Guy, in response to your comment about distance, OlightWorld has this to say on their Why Olight page which actually gives some good information on a few topics. 'Beam Distance [Meter] Beam distance is defined as the distance from the flashlight where illuminance is equivalent to a full moon on a clear night." So I guess one could see the light from the specified throw distance, but not see that far using the light. ;-) IIRC one reviewer said he estimated about 2/3 the specified throw distance or something like that, as usable. My recollection is vague and it might depend on the use anyway. I like my i5T and for CW (Crappy White) the beam is not bad. I would prefer that Olight give us a choice between CW and NW. I know they could as they gave NW versions away at the Shot Show event. I just find perception of colors and thus shapes is much better with NW. I was in a hurry as I was watching the Superbowl and went to grab my Green Warrior X Pro box to get the tactical ring so I could switch it. I grabbed the brown one instead. When you see the two side by side the difference is obvious, but when in a hurry and only seeing one, I grabbed the wrong one. Later comparing a NW Olight and a Warm Olight, the brown color is far more distinct.

  • @PreparedGuy

    @PreparedGuy

    4 жыл бұрын

    A little secret about NW vs CW is that NW makes a better defense light, as the spectrum irritates the optical nerve and is more likely to cause temporary blindness and or seizures. NW is less harmful to the optical nerve and after using the light the eyes can adjust more quickly to the dark. 💯👍🏻😀

    Great review on this great light. I'm very impressed with this light and actually prefer it to the i5r. I run mine with 2800 mAh NiMH Rechargeable AAs and got about 27 hrs of good usable light (about equal to low 15 lumen mode with fresh battery) when I ended my test because of sunrise. Also... the light does in fact work well with the proprietary rechargeable lithium ion battery that comes with the i5r, and I still get low and high modes, and in my test the light was still running above 15 lumens at 21 hours when I was satisfied and ended my test. I have multiple copies of the i5r and i5r and bother are great, but I prefer the i5t because I believe it performs better with the NiMH AAs... and the NiMH AA give great cold weather performance.

    The problem with common items like AA is in a shtf situation its also very high on demand and the first type which is missing. Its rather the uncommon things that left over in a shtf situation. You can see this actually now with ammo. 9mm is hard to get not 40S&W . I think this light should at least have a mode between and warm light for edc. And also 14500 should work in it alternativly.

    Seems like a solar charger and some high quality rechargeable batteries would be a good idea. Solar tech just keeps getting better and better. I am currently following a solar sailboat channel that runs **everything** they have off of wind and solar. I'm seriously starting to think that a sailboat might be the best bugout vehicle possible as long as you have a grenade launcher and a 50 BMG on board.

    i only joined the olight 3 month ago.(officially but bought many olights from amazon.) the i5T was a freebie with the seeker 2 pro in blue i bought. had no idea i was getting. i never saw any hype at all on this. im not one of the lucky few that get free olights to do reviews on. maybe olight asked them to hype it. what i'm looking forward to is that O-Pen2 and Warrior X Turbo in GM Gray. only 1100 lumen but the candella (I think?) gives a ridiculous throw of 1000 meters. insane. yesterday the giveaway light came in.i1R 2 EOS. i wouldnt use it as a keychain so my complaints dont really matter. no i dont like complaining about a free light. it was only free this time. others will buy these. micro usb? still? when turn the top to access the charge port i found the top and bottom had a lot of wobble. the whole overall light (odd choice of phrasing since there isnt a lot to it.) the threads holding the halves together is a very course rough thread. just doesnt seem like olight made this. oh and i got mint green. the only color i didn't want. this is not a negative attack on olight. they are the only brand i shop for. love klarus, but olight is my brand. maybe i got bad one. this just in case someone wants to buy one maybe thus helps. i dont know. just save your money if you plan on getting one later. just put another $135 with it and get the M2R Warrior Pro. a bit bigger than a typical keychain light. ;)

    It's not bad at all. But the S1R Baton II is 13/16" radius and 2.5" long. Rechargeable and 1000 lumens and you can buy replacement batteries and even other rechargeable batteries. My original battery has lasted over 3 years and still works fine. This little iT5 is nifty at best for me. Great for looking into the back of your truck or under the couch for the TV remote. Maybe to take a trash can to the curb at night. But hey, it's fine for a AA battery. 15 lumens on low, 300 on high. I have one. But it's a table light at best for me because I have 13 other Olights. I also have the tiny one that uses a AAA battery and it sits in the truck console if the dome light is not good enough. But I will say this light is very well made. All Olights are very well made. They are all I own now. And this little light beats any of the old plastic type, Radio Shack D-cell flashlights by far. If you need a reliable light that is small and light weight to carry in a shirt pocket, this is the one you want. Thanks for the review! Solid.

    I'm sure they do, I use the lithium in my i3t but olight says specifically not to use lithium in the i5t. The capacitor is different and u guess the lithium battery provides to much power and it will burn out faster. So although it will work fine. It will reduce the over all life of the light. So for example if you could get 5 years out of the light by using a regular alkaline, but using the lithium you'll only get 2 year or less. Just a ball park. The or less could be several days to several months before it craps out. Best case scenario is that olight is being dramatic and the lithiums are just fine. 🤷🏻‍♂️🤣 keep me updated. If they work just fine for you then maybe I'll start using them in mine. I want to use them in mine anyways, but I also don't want to risk killing the light.

    Not a EDC light to overlook....has "enough" lumens for most people in everyday use....realistically....uses 2 types of AA....why we're looking at lights like this. Costs $10 less than the i5R---50 more max lumens --big WOOP1 Does come with a recharable IirC...is that worth the extra $10?)....also the T is longer so it should beel better in the hand which DOES matter)..

    I have both and the olight with a 14500 is very comparable lumen wise. I do like the olight but not without a 14500. Jetbeam is around same price I think.

    After only 2 months my warrior x pro failed and chloe at customer service refused to help.I'm out 200 dollars cuz I bought the pressure switch too but I'm glad I had this failure now rather than in a fight since this light was on my go to rifle. I switched back to my 10 year old sure fire that still rocks like a champ but stuck having to replace all my lights on my weapons being I was a huge olight fan and put them on all my rifles and pistols. Olight is not battle ready gear and if u can't trust your gear u already lost the fight so use at your own risk. Me personally I'm tired of seeing people get screwed by companies I'm a little mad at olight, they didn't even try to help even after I asked about paying them to repair it so I could at least use it around the house or camping instead of having a 200 dollar paperweight. I just can't throw it away it's still brand new and the cheap skate in me won't let me. Maybe I can find someone who can put better internals in than what olight used either way shame on you olight!

    Yeah, to my untrained eyes, the i3t is just as bright, if not a little brighter. The i3t is listed as 180lm max and the i5t is 300lm. I have both, and I prefer the i3t for the size. I’m not sure which light will last longer though...

    Terrible light if you ask me, $30 for 300 lumens on top of only having a run time of 3 minutes its not very useful. My current flash light has 900 lumens output at around 2hr run time with rechargeable 18650 battery for the same price for this flashlight.

    @bostontricker211

    Prepared Guy dude, your run time is 24hrs but at 15 lumens not the full 300 lumens that it was advertised at. By that rule mine can easily run for like a week at that low lumens. If it can stay at 300 lumens for 24 hrs then I'll be impressed but it doesn't. I'm talking about max output with long run times.

  • @PreparedGuy

    @PreparedGuy

    Ok let me explain what actually happened during the runtime test. I started the test at 300 lumens, it stepped down from 300lm after about 3 hours, even though it was suppose to do that after 3 minutes. Then it step down to 150 lumens when left on, which it did, then it was suppose to last for 22 minutes at 150lm, which is ran for a few more hours then finally it stepped down to 15lm for the rest of the time. I'm not easily impressed normal but this is 1 of the few flashlights I would highly recommend for a pocket EDC light. I have hundreds of flashlights and this is one of the biggest bang for your buck AA lights on the market. 👍🏼😎 but if you dont care for it that's ok. I liked it. What are you currently using?

    Prepared Guy For me, the best one I found to be great for my needs is the Anker bolder lc90. I know this flashlight is not highly recommended by the flashlight enthusiasts. I was looking for a light that inexpensive with high output and maintain that output for a long time cause I don't want to be using my light then all of a sudden it goes dim on me in a short amount of time. Plus it's rechargeable so no carrying batteries with me is a plus.

  • @PreparedGuy

    @@bostontricker211 I think that's a pretty solid light. Simple, rechargeable, good battery life. Not over the top bright, which saves a lot on the battery, yet bright enough to get the job done. Thats definitely a good choice for an EDC light. Also the price is great. My favorite rechargeable pocket EDC light is the olight s2r baton 2. Solid runtimes, 1,150 lumens and magnetic charging. It's a bit pricey but well worth it. I use mine every day.
