Olight i3T vs i3T 2 - is newer better?

Olight revamped their venerable i3T. It can now officially use 10440 3.7V batteries. It has a longer run time and definitely runs cooler with those batteries compared to the original i3T. But, is the new light better than the original? Watch and find out.

Thanks for the battery info. I started out with the I3T as an supplementary weapon light but graduated to dedicated weapon lights. These days I use the Perun for a flood light and recently got a Seeker 4 for use as a search light with flood. I still have my mini pocket clip light for use if I go into town but I'm liking my android phone which has a shake function that cycles the camera light on and off. I still have my 40+ year old Maglite 5D cell flashlight that i purchased back in the early eighties that has good throw and doubles as a club. I've overhauled it once already with readily available Maglite parts. These days i keep it around just in case but I rely on my small army of Olights nowadays.

You can take the clip out on the i3t 2 but you can't screw it all the way back where the clip ring was, so what I did is I put another o-ring to cover that gap! I use the clip rarely on the shirt collar or the pocket to just have a source of light beaming down and not directly where I look when I just want to walk! Honestly if they didn't have a way to start low first, I wouldn't have bothered with the v2, most of the time I need low first!. Especially for a small light at night you don't want do blind yourself! The low on v2 is actually noticeably lower which I like but it also feels like the tint is a bit twords green-ish compared with the first i3t, so I'm not sure if they use the same led, or it's because the upgraded circuits, it's rare for olight to specify the leds used... And I have those 350mah batteries, they are pretty ok, but I tend to use ni-mh batteries if that means it will have a lower low for more runtime. So it's weird that I like to use 10440 3.7v in the i3t and ni-mh 1.2v in the i3t 2!

I agree, definitely good at the end of the ability to swap the low and high first

I wish more companies let you choose basic brightness order. Usually I want the lowest setting so I don't blind myself when I've just woken up in the middle of the night. It's also a matter of safety for medical professionals who need to check pupils. However if you plan to use your light for inspections or walking out to your car etc, it's preferable to have a brighter setting as soon as you turn your light on. That new fade on feature seems good for those of us with light sensitive eyes. Curious to see if that's the case.

for the most part my tail buttons have been great, but I have one of these where the button has gotten a little sticky to push. I'd still buy another one.

Previous model output: 180 lm during 21 minutes Actual model output: 200 lm during 7 minutes Curious I can't that runtime modes information (about actual model) on google images (rear of the box) or specifications on websites!... What curious!... Now, if you want how pretty is, no problem, millions photos...but the runtime modes, don't exist...

The two-way clip is useful for clipping the light to the brim of a cap. I use it that way quite frequently for hands-free illumination. Handy when taking out the trash after dark.
