    Given the Streamlight was the only one that had the laser/light combo fail, it seems a poor choice to bet my life on. Plus stripping the Streamlight down just to deal with the batteries, vs just slapping the charger on the Baldr,... I just ordered two Baldr Pro models with lasers for two of my handguns, and I am glad I did.

    I'm going with Olight, I have a balder mini and i have NOT been kind to that thing and it just keeps going. I feel like Olight is really starting to make other companies stop just riding on the pedigree they developed, as Olight is putting out products that are comparable or slightly superior IMO to others but at a price point FAR under what others are charging.

    Although I like the thought of buying “Made in America,” it unfortunately does not always mean quality anymore. I would rather drive a German car, carrying a Japanese sword, shooting an Austrian gun, talking on a Korean phone, all while sporting a Chinese Olight. Wow. @@PeacemakerPL Yeah, I had a choice. Shorter (which would be nice) or brighter. I haven't noticed my draw impacted by the extra length, so the disadvantage is mostly cosmetic. But I wanted my light to be stupid bright, because my life is on the line. The Pro R's 1350 lumens creates a defense reaction (squinting, raising hands, looking away) in everyone I've pointed it at (safely for demonstration purposes). I will use those few seconds to my advantage if the time ever comes...let's hope it never does. Also, to get the full brightness, be sure to double-click while the light is on. The default mode is a lower brightness.

  • @KravMagoo
    @KravMagoo Жыл бұрын

    With the Pro R, your strobe procedure is incorrect. To activate strobe, you only need to click both sides at the same time. Not sure why you called it gimmicky...to me, the Pro R strobe almost seems like cheating...it will give you a few seconds of advantage for sure when fractions of a second count.

    You said you don't know which one you prefer, but man you railed on the streamlight the whole time 😂 For something "battle proven" that laser wasn't working at all. You have to remove it from the gun to swap batteries and then go through the hassle of rezero-ing, poor switch placement, flimsy switch, too expensive. Similarly bulky, similar light output, same aluminum body, neither made in America. The Olight seems like a way better deal to me.

I've never had a single issue with its function or even with the rechargeable battery. It's sat for months at a time without any parasitic drain at all. I'm not saying streamlight makes bad lights but I am saying I've beat the ever loving shit out of my olight's and they still working perfectly. I even bought a second baldr mini with anticipation of a failure, that was over a year probably more like 2 years and my backup baldr is still brand new in the box.

Also, if the new Bladr Pro is like the previous Baldr Pro then getting to strobe is simply squeezing both controls at the same time. then to turn off strobe, push either control.

    I’m hoping to have caught you before purchase. I have the Olight Baldr S (800 lumen green laser) it’s cheaper than both and about the same light output. That said, I’m looking at the pro R just for more light. The laser, for me, is pointless (get the joke?) as it annoys everyone else at the target range and shows everyone how much caffeine you had that day. For all purposes aiming should be learned on iron sights first and foremost…then red dot optics as they are fast and day/night visible. The “dot” is adjusted to “point of aim:point of impact “ on my weapon only for the use of I can’t aim weapon traditionally. Which basically means “hip shots”. That laser will be the price difference between the lower grade light (Olight) and the higher grade NON laser light (streamlight tlr1 HL). Which, in all hindsight, I wish I bought first. Don’t get me wrong I love my Olight Baldr S as it DOES has the high lumen output. But if I were to do it again I know now that the “laser dot” is pretty much just a gimmicky thing that adds price. In fact…I’d advise you to save up for 1 single purchase you won’t regret….modlite PL350-PLHV2.

    I don't care for the laser housing on the bottom of the streamlight. Adds bulk, and seems vulnerable to damage. Dunno... just my opinion.

    Thanks for the great review these two lights. I have a question about the Olight rechargeable. I have a PL Pro Valkyrie that I'm enjoying very much but I wonder if when the batteries stop holding a charge if there is a way to replace them. I'm sure it would void any warranty but on the switch cap under the sticker there is an epoxy covered T6 torque screw.

    I just got a couple olights, one for the handgun and one for the rifle. Different models for each. I was really disappointed that they used different ends to charge the lights. I can't charge either light with the other charger. This is a huge oversite for their ecosystem.

    There are a few manufacturers that produce holsters for just about every Olight. Werkz Holsters for example. Idk about this parity Streamlight, but generally they have pretty deep support as well. Definitely worth researching before you buy.

    I have olights, streamlights, and surefire and have multiple lights from each company. I will say the the tlr-2 is the only light out of the 3 company's that I really regret buying. Not really any holster options for the tlr-2 and the elevation and windage adjustments on the laser have always been weird. It's just alot of money for what ur getting really, if I could do it again I would have just bought another surefire x300 or 2 tlr-1 instead. As far as the laser flickering on the tlr -2, it's from the batteries being low, at least that's what mine does. If u keep running it the light will eventually start to flicker too and then stop working all together. Replace the batteries and the laser issue will go away.
