Interview with Olga Smirnova: From Bolshoi Ballet to Dutch National Ballet

Olga Smirnova, former Principal dancer with the Bolshoi Ballet, joined Graham Watts in conversation via Zoom from her home in Amsterdam where she is a now a Principal dancer with Dutch National Ballet.
In a long ranging discussion with Graham, she discussed her training at the Vaganova Academy in St Petersburg. Her career at the Bolshoi, her guest appearances with companies such as American Ballet Theatre and Hamburg Ballet and her current work with Dutch National Ballet.

    Wonderful, exact change in the correct moment...she is the dance warrior against a diabolic invasion, Olga is my heroine, brave woman and amazing ballerina, those attacks made her greatest, TRUE is always indestructible and Olga´s inner light will never destructed, of course,🥰💐💐💐💐🌹 anybody could destroy it!, BRAVA

    Thank you Graham for not asking political questions regarding Olga's move to Dutch National Ballet. Those are quite sensitive questions and Olga has been asked them over and over for 2 years. Each time she did an interview and got asked those questions again I rolled my eyes. I'm sure that was a tough decision for her and we should all let her look ahead.

    Balanchine's 'Emerald' is a charming variation and Smirnova is quite gorgeous ❤! Her dress, combination colours of black and medium electric blue, is chic and fashionable ❤. I quite like Smirnova ❤. Thank you @ London Ballet Circle for sharing ❤😊.

    Unfortunately she gets so much hate in Russia. There is such a shitstorm in Russian social media channels, she doesn’t deserve that. She is a wonderful dancer and a beautiful and eloquent woman. ❤
