It's so fun to read coments about ilya or klokov, the first was dsq and the second couldn't even beat his own rec since 2005. You can write hundreds of comments, about how weak is olexiy or that any "strong" athletes didn't compete, But who won the gold medal? Ilya, klokov? Does it matter? If you will check, for example, the best records in running, most of them were set not in finals. There is a difference between setting the record and competing. If you compete, you must beat your oponent. If your oponent doesn't come, it's not your fault. Respect to all competitors!

Well said, man. A very important part of competing in any sport is the fact of being healthy throughout the season and competition itself and then go out there and perform. It is very naive to assume that Klokov or Akkaev (two of my favorite lifters, by the way) will lift whatever wait. Mind you (not you of course, those mean comments) this is weightlifting and it has happened many times where a lifter in which tons of expectations are put can get the 1st, the 2nd or even the 3rd attempts, leaving him/her in a much lower weight far from the best. Sadly Olekseiy (another lifter I love) got popped for drug use.

You clearly have no idea how different split and push jerks are....doing 227 on push jerk is more impressive to me than 246 (current record, by Ilyin) or 232(by Klokov) on split jerk... Besides, i saw Torokhtiy do 200 snatch and 255 push/power (somewhere in the middle) jerk....He definitely deserved to win in my opinion, even though he wasn't that impressive in the olympics...

Jan Torokhtiy is the worst weightlifting champion ever, he won because all the good competitors including Aramnau,klokov,akkayev and 1 I don’t remember couldn’t go to the olympics. It’s a shame because those 4 would have done 230+ easily and have done it in the past. Klokov even said that he would have won with just his first attempts

Jan And doing push jerks doesn’t make torokhtiy more impressive (do you think he would do them if he could split jerk more). At the end of the day you do whatever makes you lift more kg

Everyone knows Torokhtiy won gold because both Khadzhimurat Akkaev and Dmitry Klokov didn’t show up that day, also the judging was very lenient. Most agree his last jerk was a slight press out. There would be no chance of that jerk passing in recent years. No hate, just everyone in the weightlifting community knows this.

He got busted for steroid use though. Not saying the others didn't do it, but if they passed the same drug tests it means they weren't using right up until the competition which gives him an edge.

+Phthalo Green Nuruddinov & Ilya Ilyin will battle for gold in Rio 2016. While Aramnau, Akkaev are shot and finished now. Bedzhanyan may will join them too, but his snatch is pretty bad.

+Askar Turebekov True is that maybe you are olimpic champion in category, but only ignorant would not be left with this disgusting feeling that you should made more, couse someone who is below you technically made better. Ilyin did enough to get gold in both categories. Still not enough to feared Aramnau. Aramnau is the only person that can stop ilyin. Bedhanyan is far from it, an Nurudinow isnt as strong in clean and jerk, so ilyin always holds the cards.

In 2012 London Olympic weightlifting, 105kg category gold metalist lifted 6KG LESS than gold metalist in 94kg category.

The countries that were a part of the eastern bloc all initially got the foundational science for these programs from the Soviet union (some were a part of the Soviet union). They are the countries that are all getting caught with drugs regularly. Its not western countries getting busted.

Because more people participate in olympic weight lifting in those countries. Most american gyms have neither lifting platforms nor bumper plates which makes learning a bit harder. Europe developed the lifts after all. As an added advantage, eastern europeans tend to have a musculature that lends itself to peak strength with tendon placements that sacrifice speed for torque.
