Every TV I’ve ever had was a hand-me-down. The newest was prolly 5 years old when I got it a few years ago. I’m heavily leaning towards a Q90R (2019 model) later this year for an all-purpose living room TV to use for at least 10 years... barring functionality issues down the road of course Seeing that I’m going from tech that’s on average 10-15 years old (between all the TV’s I’ve ever had) the next one I get, my first ~new~ set, should look amazing to me year after year after year. Mildly concerned about playing my older games where input timing may be a little bit of a factor (I’m looking at you Sonic 1 + 2) but from all I’m hearing, most of the higher-end models shouldn’t really be noticeable unless I’m a competitive-level gamer, which I am most definitely not

I already have a Sharp 80 inch that I spent 5 grand on in 2012. I think I'm nuts spending 8 grand on 2 TV's especially since the Sharp is still working great. I'm just dying to have the huge 4K QLED though. Going to move the 80 inch into my room, now that's styling, lol. They just dropped the price $500 bucks. I'm just worried that it will be a grand cheaper in a year.

Check Facebook market place, Craigslist ain't always the cheapest. I found one local to me for $550, it was the first generation of oled but that's not a big issue for me the lesser processing power will give me a more pure picture from all the Blu-ray discs I have . My favorite thing about OLED is the colors pop like candy and contrast is great for action movies. I bought a Droid turbo in 2016 and really began to appreciate the difference OLED makes.

@@jimmyrade7815 pfff..... im using my OLED mixed.... around 40% gaming, 40% regular SDR movies up to 4k and 20% HDR content. no burn in, or better lets say "burn out" yet, despite im playing games with fixed HUDs, and i dont use the Pixel-Shift option so i clearly should see some marks of the games already. Got it since around 1 1/2 years with heavy usage. Its all about the brightness you are using, luckily even at OLED Light 30% the picture is already bright enough for games, sometimes i even use lower settings than 30% because even my gaming monitor isnt that bright. For movies brighter, including maxxed brightness settings are also ok, especially since many movies are anyways rendered dark with barely bright, static scenes.... i think regular usage wont degrade the pixels at all. Im damn happy that i paid less than for a QLED with local dimming, still got a better picture quality and motion handling. I believe anyways OLED is only some sort of Gap filler before really "perfect" TV technology is made. I really believe in Mini-LED and similar tech, but aslong they are even more overpriced than OLEDs.... i will have some years fun with my "cheap" OLED before i switch to a better technology as soon its aviable for a fair price. Or my OLED TV still works fine as my Plasma is still doing which is from 2010, then i will probably also jump Mini-LED TVs and have for 10 years fun with my OLED. But still... i would love to see 4K/120Hz+ Plasma TVs with VRR and so... damn i would give a sh*t about OLED and stick to an "ancient" technology and laugh at OLED and QLED users with my superior motion handling and probably even more accurate/realistic colors. Thats the biggest problem i have with OLED... the motion handling sucks, ofc its better than regular LCDs (and QLEDs), but still even the ultra cheap Plasma i have (500$ for a 46" Plasma in 2010!!!!) got MUCH MUCH better motion handling than this crappy "sample-and-hold" displays, including OLED. If you were used to a good Plasma TV for a decade, you can even see the big disadvantages of an OLED. Fun Fact: NO ONE of my friends.... typical LCD-consumers, think this OLED is "superior" in anything.... they obviously havent watched a Plasma TV for a longer peroid of time, otherwise they would know how superior Plasmas were (and are in motion handling still in 2020)

OLEDs too expensive (and the "burn in"), so he got the cheapest QLED TV to wait for proper TVs.... wow this TV is a big mess, still it costed nearly 700$, so 500 less than my OLED. No local dimming, you have so much clouds on this TV, however my friend isnt able to see this clouds, meanwhile, me, used to OLED and Plasmas... I couldnt live with this clouds. And then the other thing... this Fake-10-Bit panels. He was stunned by the HDR picture of the QLED TV... but it was so clear for me, this Panel is so far away from HDR capable- it even looked worse than playing HDR content in SDR on my OLED. In overall even my 10 year old Plasma easily beats the "modern" QLED TV for 200$ more (as my 500$ plasma beated easily even 2000$ LED/LCDs in its days) Wondering why people say "mimimi good picture".... still they landed in the last days of Plasma TVs at damn LCDs, marketed as LED-TVs. As i got my Plasma TV, even the customer advirsory "cried" to me how bad Plasmas are, especially when i want to play games on it - And yes, i had once a few lit ares from the HUD as i ONLY played on my plasma. But after like 20 hours regular usage everything was gone again. Funny thing too.... They said to me once the plasmas dont live as long as LCDs.... still a newer LED TV died already, a LCD with the same age as my Plasma too.... but my plasma still works awesome despite the fact that the panel is pretty much used already and so the brightness is already darker as it was a decade ago. (necessary fact: i always compensated the lower brightness of Plasmas with max. panel brightness!) Even Panasonic itself said at this models already: 50.000hrs usage are possible to have at least 80% of its original brightness. Meanwhile the customer advisory of the shop told me something like "after 5.000hours of usage the Plasma Panel will be only 80% as bright as new".... what a lie! However, Marketing and Industry really killed the Plasma TVs.... ofc they heated up the room, ofc early Plasmas (Pre-FullHD Time...) degraded fast over time, ofc they could suffer from burn in.... but i think times changed as the plasma TV prices dropped dramatically, so around 2-4 years before Plasmas were discontinued. I mean why paying 2000$ for a "midclass" picture quality of an overhyped tech (LCD) if i can get "Hi End" picture quality for 500$ with a plasma?

Maybe the most accurate interview I have ever seen, thank you. (as for those who jump out to yell how awesome OLED is, mr. Yuen Ced gave all the information to each one to decide for himself. If I want to use the damn monitor as a PC I am not buying OLED because I leave it in a picture for hours, if I want it for the 10 hours per week that I want to see a film in premium quality I will go OLED, if I want it for my child to see cartoons in bright daylight I will go with QLED and so on...)

GasLei get a oled for TV, and a monitor for PC. The question here is what is best in it’s intended purpose asa TV, it what is best for your use. As a TV, oled is superior for its intended purpose which is why I have an LG c8 in my living room. As a monitor IPS is better, which is why I have a predator X34 hooked up to my PC.

I must say that I have a surgically bright living room I have my 65 LG E8. which I do not have set to the vivid setting and the picture is perfectly watchable and many people have commented how beautiful it is. I really don’t understand how much brighter a picture needs to be, to me it would bother my eyes and just look unrealistic.

i agree, i hate the tv picture being to bright. iv still got an old panasonic plasma which people moaned about the same problems as the oled tvs, i play game and watch films on it with no burn in or any other problems, i can also still watch the tv with the blinds open and my living room is bright. need to talk the mrs into letting me get an oled :)

Baw Bag my Panasonic plasma was by far my favorite TV I always preferred it to any LED/LCD the modern replacement of a plasma television is Oled. You will not be disappointed being able to watch TV from the side chair means a lot to me plus the colors are rich and deep. When you’re ready that’s the way to go.

I have the oled E7 and it’s bright enough! I don’t know why people complain about it not being bright enough. At times it hurts my eyes in certain light scenes in movies. Colors out outstanding and the blacks make colors so amazing. Oled is the way to go and I game a lot as well and have had no burn in.

Well i have an oled C7 and would never go back to LCD, but in mid day i will have to apply vivid settings and then its good again. No burnins yet and the LG got the pixel refresher when you turn of the tv so.

My 2016 Samsung QLED is still spectacular. Those Quantum Dots really do make a difference. And they're still distributing updates for it.

Kyojin_9 awesome, and I think you mean burn in. And I play A LOT Of video games with static HUDs and I haven’t experienced any burn in I try to be really careful about it though. I typically turn the TV off if I’m not sitting in front of it for more than a few minutes and I try to never leave a static image on the screen for too long if I can help it.

Well the top part is thin anyway, but not the bottom where all the plugs are. You still are not going to flush mount it to the wall. My C9 is very thin on the top half. The bottom half where all the electronics are is like 3 inches thick. Kind of defeats the purpose in my opinion. They should have made the whole tv a couple inches thick or used a seperate box to house the electronics.

The one comment that helped my wife and I is about the OLED needs a black room and the QLED does not. Your comment about your mother having all the lights on in the room like a showroom when the television is on and the QLED looks perfectly fine. That has made our decision for us. Thank you.

Yea except it's literally untrue. Samsung qleds only have 1000 nits, not 2000 like he claimed and the means it's literally worse in a bright room than OLED. Great job trusting idiots on KZread instead of using a factual resource like rtings

The new OLED (I have the C8) has two settings: One feature where it "dims" a logo or constant image to prevent burn in and another one where it "resets" the screen, takes an hour to do and you gotta do it every some months, so don't worry about burn in there are many things LG did in order to prevent that

I have had since this comment the OLED BX and currently the C1 (2021) and great improvent over the C8 IMO. The current evo model is supposed to be 20% brighter and with much less risk or burn in, for a decent price.

I’ve had my LG OLED tv for nearly 4 years now and was the best purchase I ever made. I did experience small burn in recently due to news channel logo but fixed this issue by going into Picture settings and OLED panel settings and clear noise panel. This fixes a lot of picture issues and this then resolved my problem. It’s a nice recovery tool that not many people are aware of. Give it a try if you ever have this problem.

@@slo0oms So burn-in is permanent, image retention is not. What OP is describing is image retention (watched alot of CNN, switched to watch a movie or something, realised the CNN logo was still there, did a pixel refresh and boom the image retention disappeared). Burn-in is permanent and happens when the pixels physically burn out faster than the rest.

This video was extremely helpful and probably saved me a few grand on not having to buy another t.v. 2 years from now. Not only am I in a room with Windows and light that comes through but I leave a light on as well and I'm a gamer. Both suggest I should go QLED. I'd also rather have a brighter picture than a cinematic one. So double the nits is the right way to go as well.

Thank you! Finally someone who clearly discusses pros and cons of both technologies! I've heard of the burn-in problem a lot. That's pretty much the main thing preventing me from buying one. Spend $1800 or more, and 3 months later you have an image burned in, and don't have any warranty against that. Especially now, during the lockdown, when my family is watching many hours non-stop of TV...it's too risky to spend that much on a TV that might have burn in. Plus, our living room is fairly bright, and depending on the time of day we get direct sunlight coming in through the windows, so it's bright even w/ the shades closed! So QLED is the way to go for us...

Yeah but it's really just a matter of common sense maintenance and being aware of what you're doing with the tv. For example, I'm playing Elden Ring on ps5 on my new OLED. Instead of just leaving it on screen, I change it to live tv to keep the picture fresh while I'm currently in the bathroom watching videos and typing this handy message. It's similar to plasmas when they came out. So just don't leave anything stagnant on the screen. Also, I'm really happy with the TV. It's an LG C2 77" and it's fantastic. When there's a light or "spell" cast in game, it really, really pops. And the black is pitch. Anyways, there's my two cents.

OLED is better. Infinite contrast ratio all day long. I love it. Ever since my eyes have first laid eyes on OLED displays I've fallen in love with the technology. My eyes are very light sensitive so I can't even use QLED displays. They're too bright.

Thanks for this video! It was really well explained. The only thing stopping me from going OLED is my hardcore gaming, and I'm not sure if I'm willing to accommodate moving my xbox every now and then just to watch a movie or having to take extra steps to ensure no burn in happens. The fact that they don't even offer Burn in protection for the first year truly makes me not want to attempt it. It's so hard to decide as I love movies & gaming.

its not an issue if you do screen refresh, but oleds arent really for gaming. your spending money on features like upscaling/processing, which is usually counterproductive for gaming (as it adds lag). i would look at the new 900/950 series from sony, as they added VRR and a couple of other stuff, and you can set a custom profile for the console input, turning off any picture enhancing and lag will be same as other brands.

LG C1 range also does this. It's designed for gamers with new gen consoles, boasting 1ms input lag OLED display designed for gaming and HDMI 2.1 allowing 4k 120hz

We have 3 TVs in our house a LG 77W8 an LG 65E6 and a Samsung 75Q9FN I’m no tv expert but I would say the picture on the OLED’S is way better than the QLED even on the 2016 E6 the picture just looks more natural and bye the way we still have no burn in on the E6 after nearly two years

Anyone still watching this in 2019 and is undecided on getting either qled or oled, its really simple ykno; QLED is definitely the way to go if youre a gamer, I dont care about burn in issues on an oled, thats not the reason why you should go for QLED. Instead games are meant to be played with a maximum brightness or close to it. Since higher brightness in games means better quality. OLED however is like having an orgasm 24/7 every time the TV is turned on, the colours are just.. amazing. However for gaming you have the burn in issue but despite that u also have the issue of how dark the black colors really are. Often when playing in Oled and u'r playing a game with a lot of dark areas, there's a huge probability that you wont see anything at all. Thats how dark the colors really are, all u see is a black spot while on QLED you'd see the details of the shadows. Ive had both, but I stick with the OLED because despite playing so many hours each day, I couldnt transition over back to QLED because of how accurate the colors really are. It's just amazing. But ye in the end, its your choice, just make the right one.

I play D3 on my PS4 at most for a few hours per day (typically only an hour), do you think that'd be an issue with an OLED screen over the 3-5 year ownership mark? I can easily power off the TV when I'm just sitting in town doing nothing in game. I'm thinking of getting a Hisense series X 55" OLED. Contrast is always better than extreme brightness. Colours pop more and the infinite black levels make OLED a much better technology. In terms of Screen Burn, I have only seen it in extreme circumstances where the same content is being played over and over again - E.G. Consumer Electronic Stores. In addition all OLEDs nowadays have software features to combat screen burn such as Pixel refresher and Logo Luminance (which detects a logo and lowers it's brightness and resolution to stop screen burn).

Kasra Sarabi The problem with OLED is the inconsistency. You say you haven't seen burn in except in extreme scenarios, but others have reported it very quickly with only average use. Basically, it's a crapshoot as to whether the TV will last, and for that amount of money, this is simply unacceptable. Using an organic material basically guarantees that inconsistency, so I don't see this problem ever being resolved on OLED, which is why I'm looking forward to mLED, which is unfortunately still years away.

I wouldn't call 800 nits dim (LG C8) and *Logo* Luminance only affects exactly that. I doubt you need your Channel Logos or in Game HUD to be at Peak brightness...

Yes sir, thanks for letting people know that i i couldn't have set it better myself that is so true. A lot of people who talk about burn in on oleds dont even have an oled, its just all here say, kinda like that game we played as kids called telephone lmao i have an oled i have no problems, no burn ins and i have days where i would play it all day and still no burn in. Just haters saying other wise trying to justify why their tv is better and u should avoid an oled

I wish it was specified that Qled is not an Oled fighter. The Q9 may be, but Q6, Q7, and Q8 are not even on the same field. This should be called Q9 vs Oled.

Whoa, it makes me, who's technically a "tech noob", have a clearer picture in choosing the type of TV I need, great video!

The reason (that is not covered in this video) that they use OLED in cell phones is power consumption. The less power consumed by the screen the more powerful other areas can be such as processors and GPS. Source: I work in a OLED R&D team

All OLEDS burn in eventually. Had mine 6 months and it developed it. So pissed. I love the picture but the burn in kills it for me. I would never buy another OLED until they fix this flaw.

That was an excellent review! Smart, sensible questions, and direct, easy to understand answers. I have to know about Consumer Electronics for my part-time job, and TVs and Soundbars are the biggest sellers. This video was very helpful in my understanding of the major differences between the OLED and QLED. Thank you for Sharing this!

@@stevethea5250 From what I remembered, QLED is best for everyday watching in giving you the most realistic and brightest picture. The OLED is best for movies, because of its deepest dark colors, as well as for some sporting events.

I remember burn in being a new issue about 15 years ago just when flat screen TV’s were coming into the market. Back then they used a moving screen saver image to reduce the risk of static image burn in. These models were flat screen but still Cathode Ray Tube technology. This was a transitional step that eventually sent CRT to oblivion and begat LCD,Plasma Screen, DLP etc. My buddy has a 50” Plasma from 2007 and still alive and kicking after 12 years. I was wondering how 4K got away with glare reduction but then I noticed the lack of glass screen was a big factor. I have a VIZIO 65 but am now thinking of a 75” with the Quantum X technology.

I also have a plans TV from 2008 and it still looks fantastic. Hoping it lasts forever. Of course, I e upgraded to an HDCP compliant TV in my main room.

I own both. The oled looks better, but it was more expensive. The C9's processing chip is pretty amazing. The qled looks pretty damn good though. Both are plenty bright, if anything too bright for my tastes. The amount of light these new tvs put out is crazy in my opinion. The qled might last longer because of the technology though. And they don't have burn in issues. However if you are one of those people getting a new tv every 5 or 6 years it probably won't matter. When doing testing with test patterns and signals the oled will probably win every time. It is just a better technology and handles blacks far better. However when watching movies with proper lighting it probably isn't anything anyone will ever notice. And he is right, off axis stuff the oled wins too. With LED tvs they need to be mounted at the correct height and if you sit off axis or stand up and walk around the room the picture changes. The oled doesn't do that unless you go to extremes. My oled also seems to put out more heat but I didn't actually measure it so take that with a grain of salt. One of the down sides to the oled is some of the tech they use to combat burn in can be annoying. I use mine for a computer monitor as well and the brightness goes up and down while looking at web pages. It is doing it right now as I type this. It tries to dim the screen when it detects a static image. It will dim to the lowest setting. Then when you start typing or scroll down a page the back light will jump back up or slowly waver back and forth. It is quite annoying and I am trying to find a way to disable it but haven't figured out a way yet. I like my oled but honestly if I had it to do over again and had to pay full price I wouldn't buy one. At least not for my personal needs (tv,movies, gaming/computer). For movies only, maybe. I got mine at a pretty good price. It was on sale and an open box model at best buy and was like 800 bucks because it didn't have a box and was missing a couple screws. Other than that it was like new, I don't even think the person plugged it in. All the protective covers and sticker were still on it and it booted up like a new tv taking me through the set up menu when I plugged it in. I think they got it home and it wouldn't fit on their table or stand or something so they brought it back. I would not have paid 2 grand for it new lol. I think most people would be perfectly happy with a TCL 6 series tv.

OLED is for people who love dark rooms and a brilliant, next-gen viewing experience. QLED is for people who love brightness. I've been using my OLED regularly for over 2 years now, 2-3 hours per day on average, so probably 1500-2000 hours total, and I have no signs of burn-in. I have a very dark room, and set the brightness and contrast levels on the TV accordingly. If you want to sear your retinas like a steak with 2000 brilliant nits, then OLED isn't your cup of tea anyway.

lol, brighter isnt better. guess it finally pays of for samsung claiming tom be the brightest (which they arent btw). side by side vs other brands, virtually all customers decide against the brighter Samsung if it means getting a better/more natural looking image.

I own a Sony A1E 65" oled and recently got a Samsung Q60R 43" qled for the bedroom. While the qled does have a beautiful picture, there's no comparison when it come to blacks. After owning the oled for a while, the blacks on the qled look washed out no matter what picture setting I use. Unfortunately I think that will be the case when comparing any backlit television to any oled tv.

Doing research for a new 4K TV. I’ll be facing it at a straight angle and using it quite a lot for gaming and watching movies. Any suggestions?

OLED looks amazingly good. Better than QLED. OLED is the best lookin panel type I've owned. (I own TFT, VA, QLED, OLED, IPS and TN panels) *OLED burn in is VERY REAL. You CANNOT use OLED as a computer monitor without burn in.* The OLED blue sub-pixel will degrade faster than the other subpixels resulting in a yellowish blemish. Every OLED smartphones that Ive owned have had issues with burn in.

@@papasmurf205 I use many devices for sheet music, sometimes it has to be my phone. That usually involves 2-6 hours of screen on time each day. The small parts of the screen that remain black are clearly not burnt in, which makes the burn-in more noticable. Burn in becomes noticable after ~2 months of this kind of abuse.

CRT HDTVs from the early 2000s were even better. They were just extremely large and heavy. I had a Panasonic 26" CRT HDTV and it is still the best picture quality I've ever seen. OLED is right up there, too.
