Nobody wants to go to blood, sweat,tears and paying the price to be the best you have to keep on working regardless of the bad days, the bad days are character building days that shows the guts and determination of the individual willing to go through the lengths and look back saying it toughened me up

One thing that's legendary about Gary is that he's always in fantastic shape, no matter which age he was. Muscle maturity on another level. Great icon for life after bodybuilding

I had the privilege of training in the same gym with him shortly before he won Mr Florida 1983 ish. It was the Champion Gym in Key West ,Fla. I tell you,we all knew he was destined for the top level. I even trained with him a few times, never forget it. He did dips with two 45 lb plates around his waist in a harness! Insane. He was a youth counselor and drove around town in an old VW bus...lol. I went to Miami to see him win Mr Florida,so cool. I wonder how he looks now in 2023?

He truly is golden Era champion.. he still can kick ass those new buzues..go Gary..

When I was stationed in Germany in the late 80's I went to FIBO 1 year. That year Gary guest posed at the event. He was introduced as the next Mr. Olympia, and they said he was weighing 265 lbs. He posed to Lunatic Fringe by Red Rider. He looked incredible! How old is he in this video? He looked similar to this when I saw him at FIBO that year. 007

Not sure what his exact age was at the recording of the golds gym training vids and beach vids, I believe it's around 50. He's around 63 years old today. Ageless legend

Gee Weez, I completely forgot about Gary Strydom! And to think that at the end of the 80s and the beginning of the 90s, he was the new "monster" who would dethrone Lee Haney! The magazines nicknamed him ''Mr Shoulders''. I also remember that Vince McMahon, the WWE guru, had started a new bodybuilding league with his show supposed to compete with the Weider brothers' Mr. Olympia. Some IFBB stars had crossed over, among them Gary Strydom. It caused a lot of noise in the industry at the time. The ''deserters'' were seen as ''traitors''. I also remember that during a Mr Olympia competition, Gary, who was supposed to beat Haney, presented himself abnormally lean, too lean, and disappointed everyone. I also remember that he was not portrayed as a very nice person... Anyways, the memory all of this brings back...

The only thing that kept the Olympia trophy from Gary's grasp were his lats, IMO. If had lats like Dorian Yates - Gary had the potential and the frame to get huge lats - I think he would have won the biggest contests. Gary is the reason I lifted weights in high school. Gary was huge without looking freakishly huge.

its amazing how some guys can run gear for a life time and manage to go by. Maybe he didnt abuse them as much as his peers or maybe his genetics are way too resiliant vs gear

I always liked Gary Strydom's physique especially the way he looked in the WBF. He was rock solid, shredded, thick, and swole. With excellent abs too. Only thing that baffles me about him is his hair. Did he start to go bald in the 80's and try to get plugs? Or was he rocking a tupee or two? I just cant tell and now that hes 60 plus years his hair looks different once again?? 🤷🤔 I'll never figure it out and I can't ask him so I'm just left so confused 😕
