OldGuyDIY DIY $50 No Weld 5' ATV Spike Drag Harrow UTV Food Plot Tractor Field 4" Lag Screws FAIL

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

This drag turned out to be too lightweight and did not work. I made a drag from old tires that does a nice job.
Please see my video here, • OldGuyDIY DIY $50 No W... , for updates I made to make the drag an effective gravel driveway smoother.

This video shows my technique to make a spiked drag harrow for use in smoothing food plots and fields.
My 5' drag is made of four cross members that sandwich 4" lag bolts, 1/2" diameter, between a 2x4 and a 4x4. I screwed the two boards together with 3" screws.
The cross members are 2' apart and held in location with cable clamps on a continuous piece of 1/4" cable.

Do you have a video on how it worked?

No. It just bounced along the ground and didn't do much good. I left the video up in case other people had the same idea so I could save them the time required to build it.

You angled the screws backwards. Would it be better to angle forwards?

Angling the screws to the back allows the drag to drag over material rather than digging into the ground and causing the drag to hop or kick up. If you angle the bolts forward, there is also a chance they will hang on a root or other obstruction and be torn out of the wooden cross member. Thank you for asking.

You are correct. It was too lightweight and did not work. I made a drag out of old, failed, tires and have been using that.

I left the video up so if someone else thinks of making the same type of drag, he can see that it doesn't work very well.
