The after credit scene did show Zurg coming back online. So maybe the older Buzz died, but the real Zurg was still there and took back control

The main thing that upset me about Zurg’s big twist in Lightyear was the fact that the trailers all seemed to paint Zurg as we expected him to be. An evil and malignant being that truly embodies the evil emperor moniker. When the actual movie released though he’s just a scary looking guy who in all reality would cause no harm except when absolutely necessary for his plan to undo his woopsie from the past.

@@Larka661 one of the supporting messages was to give yourself a second chance. old buzz inadvertently did just that to present buzz. buzz was doomed to be arrested upon his return. he wouldn't have learned from his mistake. he'd continue to obsess over it. that's just what old buzz did. however, by traveling back in time and attacking the turnip, he distracted them from present buzz's arrival. old buzz created an opportunity for present buzz to prosper. the first time around, he was confronted by star command. the second time around, he met izzy and learned from his mistake.

First thing i thought when the old buzz was telling his story is "ok this isnt zurg, because old buzz found everything already made so the real zurg is still out there" so i agree with this theory.

Head canon here but hear me out. Lightyear was the movie the movie that inspired the buzz lightyear toy in toy story 1, well in toy story 2 its been a year or 2 since then. So its been time for a Lightyear 2 film, hence the belt accessory for buzz and the Zerg we know. So my head canon is the Zerg we know is from "Lightyear 2".

Well after the buzz lightyear of star command movie i thought that the toy buzz was modeled after some kind of cartoon reboot

If the original Zurg comes back to get revenge, he maybe will mistake the good Buzz for the older Buzz and try to kill him. Sounds pretty interesting, don’t you think?

By that I'm guessing there's going to be a sequel to this movie? Or is it going to become a franchise like Toy Story?

I myself really enjoyed the movie Lightyear. That post credit scene also gave me chills. Maybe older Buzz died and the suit was just coming online because it was activated by the real Emperor Zurg deep in the galaxy somewhere. I hope that one day we do get a second light year movie even though it under performed, because I really would love to see those characters come back and maybe see XR, Mira Nova, and Booster again.

The fact Old Buzz says it was all "borrowed" means he stole everything from someone. The robots saying 'Bu-Zurg' is odd because he said they couldn't pronounce Buzz but they can say Zurg? 🤔 If Old Buzz escaped & was detained, why did Buzz get saved by Izzy? The Old Buzz also didn't know or at least care to know that Alisha had a life with a family til he tried to get Buzz on his side. He would know that Alisha got married & pregnant if he was actually Buzz. Very confusing considering the fact that Old Buzz exists but only wants help to further his plans that wouldn't work without the crystal... the other members are very random unlike Izzy, being tied to Alisha

Old Buzz lived the exact same life as Present Buzz up until Present Buzz was saved by Izzy. The only reason he was saved by Izzy is because the robots and Zurg ship were attacking Star Command. That is the only reason Old and Present Buzz lived different lives at that specific moment. Old Buzz didnt care about Izzy because he never got to know her

I like to think that "Bu-Zurg" is the outcome of Buzz trying to teach the Robots his real name, but since they presumably could only say "Zurg" beforehand, their programming just mashed the names together.

I've never watched it yet but I do agree that an older Buzz Lightyear being Zurg is a bit far fetched. An origin story of Zurg that would fit in the Buzz Lightyear of Star Command timeline would be awesome.

Buzz was so obsessed with fixing his mistake, that he kept on trying and time literally slipped away. That's why the "evil buzz" ended up with a powerful robotic suit. Apparently Zurg knew how to time travel, which is why "evil buzz" took it. He was so obsessed with fixing his mistake, it consumed him.

@@MANESHARK well, zurg, behind closed doors, implied that his name was a family name (or title) in the cartoon series. that makes it possible for at least one zurg within the long line of zurgs to murder buzz's dad. as far as the rest of the galaxy is concerned, "Zurg" could be revered as an immortal force of evil rather than one particular person. think of it like how "batman" becomes a symbol or ideal whenever the proverbial torch is passed.

The real zurg is one reason the lightyear seaqul must happen and It feels essential to me that Pixar has to make it. When the zurg we saw was actually another buzz lightyear I just did not see that coming at all so we gotta see the real bad guy soon no doubt and fans would beg Pixar for this

My theory is that when old buzz travelled to the future and killed Zurg,but Zurg uploaded his soul into the system in his armor,so when old Buzz dies he takes back control

Imagine all the kids who got both zurg and buzz. Rooms just war whenever they are alone. The other toys have been forced to chose sides.

Or what if he did stumble on it… because someone WANTED him to Since time travel is a factor, what if Zurg left the armor and robots where he knew someone would find it for some reason?

I think this theory is interesting but 1) why do the robots say "b'zurg"? If it's because they cant say buzz lightyear, then how did Buzz program them to change who they were loyal too? 2) they don't really explain how there were two Lightyears, unless I missed it. Is this implying that old Buzz not only traversed spacetime, but also the multiverse? If any time dilation creates a "clone", then why aren't there more than one clone Lightyears?

The robots looked pretty run down, so it could've just been audio distortion from lack of maintenance. Another thing I noticed is the subtitle captions on different platforms. Some captions say 'Zurg' while on another, 'B-Zurg' is emphasized. Old Buzz was pretty young when he claimed to have just found the ship and the suit. Maybe he left out the part that he killed the real Zurg and took the tech, but since it was so advanced he didn't have the knowledge to up keep with minute repairs.

There is the fact that at the end of the movie, Buzz and his new team are sent out when intercepting a signal from space and that they didn't want to take the chance of it possibly attacking them. This alone supports the theory of a true emperor zurg that might be coming.

It did feel a bit convenient that it just so happened to land older Buzz into that exact predicament to become this Zurg. Maybe we're onto something

I like this movie, and I think it would be cool if Zurg returned in a sequel.

Here me out. Old buzz found the armor and the ship because Buzz's father died in that universe as Zerg. Old buzz has no idea that Zerg was his father but takes the suit and becomes Zerg. It would explain why the robots and the armor allow old buzz to control them.

I hope if this movie got a sequel they fix the Zurg lore because they didn't even introduce why is that ship there and how future buzz "borrowed" it.

There would have to be a Zurg to make the armor in the first place for the older Buzz to find, armor doesn't just appear. Potentially Zurg could have been apprehended by Star Command at the time with this being one of his weapon stashes and Buzz could have told the truth about stumbling upon it. Overall having another person being Zurg fits and was most likely the intention, though older Buzz certainly wouldn't have been able to overpower or remove the original Zurg after his jump, so most likely it was probably abandoned

for giving a point to the cyclops robot, if you activ the subtitle of lighyear on disney+ you can see that robot are actually saying :B-ZURG. so they really try to say buzz but can't

Just an FYI: The Buzz lightyear of Star Command tv show is NON-CANONICAL. Pixar has renounced it, denounced it, ridiculed it and has claimed several times that it is NOT cannon. You can’t use anything from that show to base a theory.

That would actually make things make much more sense with the real Zurg being the Zurg we all know

Good video, it even got me thinking as to how Lightyear 2, could open and even pan out. Once I've got my ideas settled I'll share them.

I had the same theory that Zurg is someone else and I think posing as him will come back to haunt Future Buzz.

an extra reason that buzz isn't the real zurg in Lightyear is because when Old Buzz found the armor, it opened itself. As far as we know, the armor can't be open from the outside so something or someone must've opened the armor and Old Buzz took it.

I think it's clear that Old Buzz created the alternate timeline of Young Buzz by traveling to it. The Zurg attack weeks before Buzz' landing now caused Buzz to not get noticed by the police and thus staying

I actually liked the twist. Another funny twist was the future cat robot helped regular Lightyear to escape and take away the crystal

I liked the introduction of zurg in the new movie but the thing is it was to obvious that zurg was gonna be in it and I wish they could've just left zurg for a different movie with a deeper and mysterious voice until the 2nd movie came out. When buzz ask older buzz how did he really obtain the suit of zurg and his ship and older buzz studder and stood quiet for a few seconds saying that it won't matter since they can fix this mistake in the past and that part where he studder and stood quiet was really odd as heck and after the credit scene it only show the colonel just sipping coffee while the ray shield was up and there was no zurg after the credit scene so, oh yeah there's deleted scenes people have found so u can find more details there

I was thinking and I have a theory. I think this isn’t the real Zurg. When the Evil Buzz found the ship he probably found the Zurg suit , I don’t think he made it. I think suit was already there and a person who had his own conciseness was wearing it. Maybe they’ve created a new version of the suit like Mark 2 and that person is wearing it right now. That person left the ship and never returned. But why wouldn’t robots wait for their leader? I think they thought Evil Buzz was their leader. In the scene where Evil Buzz is first introduced , our Buzz thinks that Evil Buzz is his father. This indicates that Buzz and his father lookalike. And it’s a clue that the real Zurg is Buzz’s father like in the original canon. But real Zurg left the ship and then Evil Buzz found it and took it. You may ask why didn’t robots thought our Buzz was their leader. There’s a simple answer , they were programed to attack him. If they weren’t programmed maybe they would think our Buzz was their leader. All in all I think the real Zurg is still alive and he is Buzz’s father who looks like him. And he calls himself Zurg. That’s why robots call Evil Buzz “Zurg”. And probably these Z’s on the patterns of the robots were already there(I’m not sure I couldn’t see them at the flashback , it’s just an idea) This is my theory and I hope we would see the real Zurg. This villain is awesome but still I wanna see that man and I want him to say classic lines. Plus , at the after credits Zurg’s suit restarts itself. Perhaps the real Zurg activated it.

Hmm so going off of this maybe the technology itself had some sort of a biometric activation system,possibly unrefined to the point that it wouldn’t be able to differentiate Buzz from Zurg due to him pretty much looking exactly like him, leading back to Zurg being Buzz’s father

Or perhaps this was an elaborate plot to effectively create a decoy, if Buzz thinks that his future self was Zurg, and that he was defeated, it would leave a strategic opening for the real Zurg to continue his operation unabated, allowing him to put the finishing touches on his secret weapon……

I think this theory works perfectly and even allows the Buzz Lightyear of Star Command series to continue. The armor could come from after the TV series when Evil Emperor Zurg had already been defeated. Though, one little problem is if you listen to the robots they call both Buzz's Zurg so it couldn't just be the guy in the armor that was Zurg. Also, if you listen carefully they actually say "Buzzerg". But I think these can be overlooked.

I think you're a bit off on the time. Old Buzz was able to go back to before he tested the Crystal, just not far back enough to prevent the crash. That's why in the 22 years it took Buzz to get back from Hyperspace Old Buzz was able to launch an attach on the settlement, and why old Buzz implied that he'd been waiting for Buzz to return from the crystal test.

I believe the possible emperor zurg will truly be a robot and not a man in a suit. The manned zurg suit we see in the film may serve a distinct purpose in zurgs artillery/technology. The true emperor Zurg would be straight robot. Modernized design, but closer to the Classic toy story zurg look.

Once you introduce time travel you can pretty much explain away anything, or just leave it to the imagination and you’re in the clear. There is still one HUGE question that I havent seen many theories on….. HOW IS ZURG BUZZ’S FATHER??? It’s part of the toy story cannon, it was programmed into Zurg’s fictional toy “I am your father” and his actual real-life toy too…. My theory is that Zurg’s true form is something we havent seen. “Old” Buzz stole his ship and the real Zurg is looking for it. This same Zurg is a time traveler (this could help explain the “abandoned” ship) and through his time travels he fathered Buzz, or at least in one of the realities he visited he fathered Buzz. We know time travel exists in this universe, so why would the humans (who have already been using hyperspeed for years without problems somehow) be the only ones to have it?

If they ever plan to make a part 2, fo 1, they need to reveal once and fo all the true identity of Zurg. 2nd, they need to find a way fo Buzz to form his old team back, even merge his new team wit old original team and become (The Lightyear Elites). 3rd, have Buzz lead his squad into constant battles with the Real original Zurg.

There are defintely unanswered questions. I'm sure in the Toy Story universe a Lightyear 2 exists so hopefully we get a Lightyear 2 and get more answers. They have to address the I am your Father line from Toy Story 2. Personally, I love Lightyear and what Pixar is doing. I hope they get to do a Lightyear 2 and I would love a Woody movie too. I think they could get meta with it and instead of it being an old movie in the Toy Story Universe take jabs at Hollywood and say that they're bringing back old franchises to modern audiences lol hopefully they give Andy a cameo, maybe a post credit scene of him leaving the theaters.

Also they say he gets it so it’s obvious there was already a emperor before him that created the stuff they literally tell us “hey that’s not his stuff he found it from someone else” so we already know that he’s not the original owner of the armor.

In general, I hate the way they tried to make old buzz as Zurg. They should of stuck with the original script & design. By the looks of this new Zurg he ain't no where near as powerful as the original Zurg

Ah so here's what I think about Old Buzz, he found the suit offline along with the robot army, after booting the machines back on they started to call him Zurg and not his real name (probably because they believed Zurg was back online), and decided to keep it as his identity. Also, could the REAL origin of Zurg be that he was actually a rogue AI created by humanity along with the production of robot soldiers but was scrapped and left abandoned? So yeah, Zurg was in fact, in sleep mode the whole time during the movie, and after Old Buzz died, the AI woke up. If this ain't true, I want to believe the REAL Zurg is actually the Space Emperor we all know and might have created many big armored suits in his likeness to lead his army across the galaxy.

Make sense

I think a good plot would be buzzurg trying to get Sox from star command, because Sox could have a memory file of the finished formula, (that was destroyed). Only remember when Sox was dropped by moe, and he needed a reboot. What if it altered the memory, so sox can’t remember the actual formula. Still, Buzzurg make a functioning hyper space crystal, but when he tries to go to the past, it sends him (and buzz and the space rangers) back to the future where he stole the zurg suit from the real zurg.

I hope they give us the real Zurg in the future.

I really hope we can get a sequel after this movie if it make more money

I can just imagine some poor dude running around in a bath robe all like "Where's my stuff!?"

So basically like tgis Older Buzz - Trevor Slattery, fake Mandarin Zurg - Xu Wenwu, the real Mandarin

Buzz goes back earth but ends up again traveling further in past and meets Woody and Jessy

Possible On another planet

I have far better question - where are other Buzzes from other failed jumps? Where are other Future Buzzes from his jumps? Why it was allowed to happen? Why there is no extra spaceship if it traveled at hyperspace? Time travel plots are tricky to do right, and this one is def. not good one.

Robots can’t synthesise the name Buzz or Lightyear? 🤔

😆I feel like it's a paradox. Since we already know that the light year in the future is a different buzz in the past speaking of timelines so whatever timeline original buzz follows the other buzz didn't follow,

Is it just me or does buzz light years white space helmet look like master chiefs helmet

Or what if, since there's time travel involved, Zurg's, armor, weapons, robot army and ship was a bootstrap paradox existing only in a time loop? There's nobody who created that stuff. Buzz just discovered that stuff when he was sent to the future, and he brought it all back to the past, and when he died in the past, his ship remained abandoned until another Buzz discovers it, becomes Zurg, goes back to the past, dies, rinse and repeat. And the robots called him Zurg because they remember him calling himself Zurg in those infinite times they met him.

@@SeanWheeler100 Technically the Zurg armor is still active based on the post-credits. Whomever is still operating could still rebuild... or something in the Gamma Quadrant of Sector 4 could be lurking.

If we get a sequel in shiny new armor and an authentic Zerg, they will have redeemed this movie

A lot of people are starting to come to this theory. I think it leaves room for the real Zurg to come forward for revenge.

One of the few things that I wasn't happy about was the COUNTLESS, references to Star Wars. I love the movie, but it just felt like it was a little rushed and mostly about a Toy Story x Star Wars thing.

7:27 You forgot one thing about Toy Story 2, Why does Buzz think Zurg killed his father? You can't just sweep all that character development under the rug because the TV show had something different. Personally I think there just trying to retcon toy Buzz through other mediums but instead of just admitting it, there just hoping everyone will forget about it.

There could be deeper plotlines that they haven't explored yet or explained. Maybe Buzz's father was a space ranger killed in action and he aspired to be like his old man after that. Not knowing how he died until Zurg comes into the picture.

@@comitlight4688 Sounds good to me but just for it to all make sense, Buzz's father would have had to of lived much longer then the average human just to connect him to Zurg unless he discovered time travel too or has been stuck in hyper sleep for years 🤯🤯🤯

@@heresdan Maybe if the movie is setting up a sequel, for the real Zurg to enter Buzz's timeline to seek revenge on the old Buzz for stealing his tech by trying to destroy his life. Being from an advanced future, crysallic fusion can't be the only means for time travel. So in order to destroy buzz's life, he'd probably travel further back to when he was a child, and killed his father in action.

Maybe Real Zurg have many suits , Ships and army of robots

The thing is, in 1 of the toy story movies a toy zurg says 2 a toy buzz that he is his father, something that's played on in the movie when buzz says after the reveal of who zurg is, as he says "father?" and zurg just says to guess again

I mean the twist was not great. Old Buzz I wouldn’t even consider evil, maybe selfish but to be fair everyone turned on him when he got back so I wouldn’t blame him for trying to reset everything. I low key would probably take over the planet at that point if I was him.

Lightyear 2 can still happen, Just...make it a high budget series like the Mandalorian.

I love zurg but i think what they did was wrong zurg needs his own movie

Before I start watching this theory, I actually had theory of my own... My theory was that abandoned ship actually belonged to the one and only Emperor Zurg...Evidence of this is not only obvious fact that every robot on the ship can only say "Zurg" in a distorted voice, but also the fact that all the robots have "Z" logo on them. I'm saying that now, so I can see If this theory has similar idea. Also, I would personally prefer to have Zurg as independent character rather then Buzz from the future. I think Zurg is interesting enough on his own, and that entire plot twist kinda ruins the entire fun of having the interesting villain that's just that, an evil incarnate. If they TRULY needed some kind of huge plot twist, why not have main characters think that it has to be a guy in a mech, only to learn that Zurg was just a robot the whole time. Machine that views himself as superior to other humans and machines... It would play nicely into Buzz's hatred towards machines, but also would function nicely with the entire opinion Buzz is having on rookies being weak. I liked this movie. Honestly, I had awesome time watching it, but I do understand some criticisms it's getting. I think movie would be more enjoyable, If people who made it just leaned into the idea that they were making movie that Andy saw, putting themselves into the shoes of a sci-fi movie director in the 90'. Pixar has already showed us how real they can make their animated movies, why not show us they can do it in reverse,...make a movie that feels like it walked out of 1995.

He does know that there's a post credits scene where it shows that old buzz aka Zurg

I reckon that is his dad it doesn't actually look like an identical older version of buzz... It's Zurg playing a trick so he can go back in time to a significant point and take over the universe...also here's another theory it is buzz but as he says from a different timeline...it doesn't mean his father in original buzzes timeline isn't Zurg

I think the real zurg will show up in the second film and he will be a force to be reconned with.

My only Change to this theory is. If you had a huge army consisting of dozens of warships which you use regularly and you had a suit of armour that mabey kept you alive you'd want multiple of that suit just in case. Mabey the real Zurg abandoned that ship becaus all the tech was outdated explaining why we never saw the dress on Zurg the outfit we all know him for was a mark 2 of the Zurg armour. But that's just a theory a film theory

I’m also confused why does old buzz not know who Izzy is because if he didn’t meet her when she’s older but he would have got to see her in hawthorns video I believe that it’s buzz father found out he landed on that planet is the real zurg and pretending to be buzz to stop him from ever landing

Its an interesting plot twist, but it kinda throws everything out of wack. I mean in the Light-year movie Buzz didn't even know who Zerg was, but in the toy story movie he said he: "protects the galaxy from the threat of invasion, from the evil emperor Zerg" the character we've come to know as "Zerg" was pretty much thrown out the window in the Light-year movie. 🤷‍♀️

The theory goes "We know Old!Buzz found the stuff abandoned... so where did it come from?" Basically the idea is the _real_ Zurg is actually around, and the Old!Buzz, whom traveled into the far future, found the abandoned stuff and took it for himself.
