    With my Mora classic with the old sheath I got my hair dryer and cut a piece of 1/8" wood the width of the belt loop length.and formed the belt loop to accommodate a belt better. Also, I cut a vertical slit at the top of the sheath which introduced some springiness that improved retention.

    Probably the most customized knives ever🤣. Great work on the sheath.To be honest,I love these knives but there is plenty of room for improvement on the sheaths. Thank you very much for watching the video.

    Realistically the old classics were underpriced for years -Greencraft has a video where he said he bought one for £12 in the early nineties. Springfields have a new one for £24 so it’s not too bad -instead of a gradual increase over thirty years they’ve done it at once!

    It is great that they cost so little. It means you can have a decent knife everywhere that you might possibly want a knife. They also do have some more expensive ones to give you even more options and a bit of a range of functions. Absolutely fantastic company in my book. Thank you for watching mate and for taking the time to leave a comment.

    @@KuukkeliBushcraft As I’ve mentioned I have several. Modern as well as the older ones. In my shop I use both the #1 and #0 and in my cars I keep modern versions with rubberized plastic grips. This Christmas both of my sons got old Swedish surplus Carl Anderson made moras I bough of an auction site. My interest in moras lies not in collecting them, but as very functional work knives.

    I don't know about the prices in the USA. Probably the increase won't be so much more as a lot of the price is probably due to shipping. You guys think they are cheap😂. The Mora basic is about 5 dollars here. You do also get some improvements for the extra money. I love the handle shape on the classics. Nothing to get in the way. Great little knife for carving. I think they are very good knives. Mora has been my go to knife for a few years. My oldest one is a Mora Classic and I've had it close to 15 years, it cost 15-20 dollars. My newest one is the Garberg with the carbon steal blade, definitely a great knife! I purchased the Garberg in 2019.

    My old Mora 2 about 17 years old is my neck knife in the mountains, my son just bought a new one for himself and its got that new sheath. The biggest thing I noticed was the new Mora 2 has a full tang, whereas mine is only half way in the handle.

  • @KuukkeliBushcraft

    All of the old ones had a full rat tail going through the handle. I can't remember when they stopped doing that but I would guess not long before you got yours. To my mind the classic is not the kind of knife you would be using for harsh rough tasks anyway so not something that needs any more than a partial tang. It is nice to be able to see the end of the tang though and to know that it's not just a quarter tang. Jönsson were still making through tang Moras until the factory burnt down about 2 years ago. They also had the leather belt loop. Looks like Morakniv are trying to make their classics more classic again. Thank you very much for watching and I hope you have a fantastic weekend.

    I like that they made the classics little bit higher quality. The really old classics where still much nicer, always had the "full-stick tang" and thicker spine on the blade. These really are more of an workers knives than for bushcraft. One of my relatives carried an classic for probably 30 years it was sharpened so much that it looked like an toothpick 😆..

  • @KuukkeliBushcraft

    @KuukkeliBushcraft

    I have a tonne of old Classics, they are so common here in Finland and can be bought so cheaply. Most of them require some work, that I will get round to at some point. I think Morakniv have realised that people don't really see their classes as just a cheap work knife anymore and are prepared to pay a little more for a higher quality product. The plastic handles are cheaper and robust and probably a better option if you are on a building site. The Classics are in my opinion just nicer to use and to own and very well suited to carving a spoon next to a campfire. It would be kind of nice if they still had the cheaper ones as an option though. They do actually still have them in stock in my local hardware shop. The classic certainly was at one point the equivalent of the modern Mora basic. Intended to be used around the farm or on the building site. Thank you for watching and for taking the time to leave a comment.

It's also 2.5mm thick vs 2mm for the new 1/0. It's my EDC and I wear it around my neck Yesterday I received a BPS BS1FTS @ $20 knife to wear on my belt. I didn't think the classic sheath would work well enough with my belts, and the BPS has a nice supple leather one. It's 3.6", full tang and is shaped a bit like a butter knife. Bit of an Old video, but twice the price for a barely improved sheath and stain instead of paint.... totally not worth it to me. Now if they came with a proper sheath, all leather, or even more substantial like the mora all-round, or the kansbol, then maybe id agree that they are worth more. Personally i think its all marketing on moras end, trying to make more money and raise prices. You see it in their new ash series, even in the garberg, and the Kansbol and bushcraft series (quite a price increase over the old Mora 2000 for basically a slightly different handle) Personally, i cant support that kind of business model, so ill be avoiding these new products. Glad their work knives are still cheap though, ill continue with those, as well as branching out to try several other brands other than mora. To put it in perspective, Mora offered a classic Anniversary knife not to long ago. They upgraded the steel to 14c28n and had a lovely unpainted wood handle, as well as a nice leather sheath, for basically the same price as these new Mora Classics. Still kicking myself for not grabbing that anniversary model

    They are definitely cashing in on their popularity. From their pont of view of course it makes perfect sense. The main point of a business is to make money. From our point of view, well I think there are plenty of small Finnish manufacturers making very good quality knives for extremely good prices. Buying those helps small businesses and there is also a lot more competition wich will also help to keep the prices low. We don't have that anymore in Mora seeing as now there is only one company making knives in Mora instead of 3 like there was 15 years or so ago.
